Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : [Kay has finally cornered Alan on the patio at the country club dance] ...Why have you avoided me?
Alan Joseph Ward : ...To tell you the truth, I've been afraid of you.
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : Afraid of me?
[giggles]
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : For the love of Mike, why?
Alan Joseph Ward : I know your reputation. You're supposed to be fatal. They tell me one time that you became engaged to a man after only having known him for thirty minutes.
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : How silly! What time is it now?
[They laugh. The scene switches briefly back to the ballroom where the band is playing and a male trio is singing through megaphones. The singing continues in the background throughout the rest of the scene. Jack appears, looking for Kay, and the camera follows him back outside as he calls "Oh, Kay" repeatedly with no reply. Eventually the camera pans up to Alan and Kay sitting in a treehouse.]
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : "Oh, Kay" and now what were you saying?
Alan Joseph Ward : Before we go any further, do you promise to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : [Holding up her hand, but with fingers crossed] I do.
Alan Joseph Ward : [He looks askance at the crossed fingers, and they both laugh.] Now, where were you last night?
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : At the Blue Mouse.
Alan Joseph Ward : Describe the Blue Mouse, please.
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : It's, uh, sort of a roadhouse.
Alan Joseph Ward : What sort of a roadhouse?
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : Well, there's a perfectly peachy orchestra, and a divine dance floor, and chummy little alcoves, and....
Alan Joseph Ward : And what time did you return home?
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : Maybe six, maybe seven.
Alan Joseph Ward : Now, Miss Elliott to how many men are you engaged at the present time?
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : I don't remember. Maybe six, maybe seven.
Alan Joseph Ward : Well, that's enough to make the court rest.
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : That's enough to make anybody rest.
[They laugh]
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : And now the prisoner takes the stand in her own defense. Listen, Alan, I have an income of a hundred thousand dollars a year, and every man I know is trying to marry it. They don't fool me for a second. Do you blame me for fooling them? I go out a lot and I stay out late. I don't like golf, or tennis, or horses. So what else is there for me to do? One more word before you pass sentence. I've always played fair, and I've never done a deliberately rotten thing. Now, what has the court got to say?
Alan Joseph Ward : You're charming
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : And the sentence?
Alan Joseph Ward : A kiss.
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : I object.
Alan Joseph Ward : Objection overruled.
[They kiss, tentatively at first, then again with passion.]
Alan Joseph Ward : Kay, you're... I'm crazy about you.
[They kiss again.]
-
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : Be a nice clever Jack and see that Alan Ward gets my slipper. I don't know just how you'll do it, but, please get it done.
Mr. John Thomas 'Jack' Gregory : That's like asking a man to dust off his own electric chair. I wanted you for myself.
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : Please, Jack! There's a reason. You won't be sorry.
-
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : [Alan storms over towards Kay, sits down, takes her across his knee, and starts spanking her behind with 12 swats] Oh! Stop it! Oh, stop it! Oh!
Alan Joseph Ward : There! You're just man crazy!
-
Alan Joseph Ward : What are you doing here?
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : Working.
Alan Joseph Ward : Working?
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : Yeah.
[Rubbing her behind]
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : You know, you made quite an impression on me last night.
-
Alan Joseph Ward : So, you want to work, eh?
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : Certainly.
Alan Joseph Ward : All right, clean my ink well!
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : Certainly.
-
Mr. John Thomas 'Jack' Gregory : What's the big idea, down here working every day?
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : Maybe I'm trying to make myself over.
-
Mr. John Thomas 'Jack' Gregory : Well, ta-ta.
[Walks to the door and turns around]
Mr. John Thomas 'Jack' Gregory : I don't get it. I don't get it at all.
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : Get what?
Mr. John Thomas 'Jack' Gregory : This passionate attachment you have to your work, unless, of course, its to win another bet. Toodle-oo, dear heart.
-
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : I'm gonna stop in at Saks and get a new bathing suit. You've never seen me in a bathing suit, have you?
Alan Joseph Ward : No.
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : Not bad! Not bad, at all.
-
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : I wanted to prove to you that I wasn't just a wild kid, that I could make something of myself.
-
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : All right, you win! I'm through! I quit! And as far as I'm concerned you can go jump in the lake!
-
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : Oh, boys. If this wild bunch of women thinks we're going horseback riding in the morning, we ought to get some sleep.
-
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : I think you're a wonder. You certainly fooled me and I'm hard to fool. Old still water, himself. I always thought you weren't as hard working young men did all right for yourselves.
Alan Joseph Ward : But, Kay, you don't under...
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : Oh - And as for you, Linda: naughty, naughty.
-
Mr. John Raleigh Elliott : You and your love affairs!
Miss Katherine Constance 'Kay' Elliott : They have been kinda cockeyed lately, haven't they.
