This movie was originally filmed as a silent picture. But, with the advent of sound, audiences began not paying for silent films and only paying to see "talkies". M-G-M, one of the last studios to adopt sound, did not have any "talkies" to release. So, M-G-M began taking silent films they had not yet released, such as this film, and, post-production, added sound sequences to them. Unfortunately, these sound sequences and the accompanying sound track have apparently not survived, and so a modern musical score has been added, considered by many as more detrimental rather than as supportive to the action on the screen.
The rolling chair ride Dolly and Steve take on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City began in the 1880s and as of 2018 are still available for hire.
The $10,000 made from the first scam would equate to $174,000 in 2022.
When Brad threatens to send Dolly back to "Joliet", he means the Illinois State Penitentiary (later the Joliet Correctional Center). The prison did have a woman's unit until 1933.
