Why is this a classic?
It was an interesting view mainly because of seeing life in another era and getting to see how it was. In ways it's like looking into a different race of people.
And of course the idea that just in a few years this city would fail into turmoil adds to the interest of it.
But in the end that's all it really is, is interesting. I think it's fairly easy to tell some of it is staged (the fight and the bulging eyes woman on the bridge, if not all of the people on the bridge) and it doesn't show anything important. As someone here pointed out.
It's a good historical piece with a good score but I don't think it is much more than that.
