Polly of the Follies (1922) - Tragic Loss
PamelaShort25 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Aspiring to climb the social ladder, Mrs. Jones ( Ina Rorke ) of Long Island, sets her hopes upon her son Bob's ( Kenneth Harlan ) upcoming marriage to Alysia Potter ( Billie Dove ). During a reception, the two lovers become drunk and they decide to elope, and go to Bowling Green, Connecticut. While waiting for the justice of the peace, Bob and Alysia see Polly Meacham ( Constance Talmadge ) performing "The Way to a Man's Heart " at the theatre. Meanwhile, Mr. and Mrs. Jones, their daughter Hattie, ( Mildred Arden ), and Mrs. Potter ( Theresa Maxwell Conover ) all arrive and persuade the eloper's to wait 6 months before marriage. On Bob's advice Polly comes to New York and gets a place with the Ziegfeld Follies, but her debut is ruined by a case of stage fright. Alysia replaces her and is a success, and while Bob is trying to comfort Polly, Alysia announces she is breaking the engagement, leaving Bob free to marry Polly.

This 1922 romance/comedy was produced by the Constance Talmadge Film Company and starred the popular actress. Tragically, it now remains a lost silent film.
