Versus the Man From Brooklyn
boblipton11 December 2013
When a hotel guest takes a shot at him and then jumps out a window, bellhop Hughie Mack discovers the man is supposed to marry an heiress. He dresses up as the man and gets involved with pretty Jewell Hunt and a ruby pried from an Egyptian idol in this comedy directed by Larry Semon.

Mack wandered into Vitagraph and wound up as their comedy competition to Roscoe Arbuckle. After Semon solidified his control of the Vitagraph comedy unit, Mack was out -- but had a decent later career, including some work for von Stroheim. He's pretty good in this one, although it's mostly about the cartoonish gags that Semon specialized in.
