Harry Lonsdale is a member of a criminal gang. He gets away from a police raid by hopping into his chauffered car, switching the license plates, and altering his appearance from an eyepatched ruffian to a gentleman. He also wants to marry Mercy Hatton. She weeps at the order from her father, but he is adamant. She rushes off to marry her true love, which angers both men. When her father writes her, he says he may come to forgive her. Lonsdale switches the letter for an earlier draft in which she is commanded to 'never darken his door again.' Later he tries to sell Mercy's father bogus mining stocks, and murders him.
I looked at this thriller in an abbreviated print, While the capture of this typical English gentleman was not gotten to in the copy -- it was 25 minutes, while the time listed in the IMDb is slightly over an hour -- I have little doubt that he comes to no good.
What is available looked like a movie that is decently done for the year it was released.
