- Oliver Twist is born in a workhouse in 1830s England. His mother, whose name no one knows, is found on the street and dies just after Oliver's birth. Oliver spends the first nine years of his life in a badly run home for young orphans. After getting seduced and manipulated by Mrs. Man, Mr. Bumble, the parish beadle, offers seven pounds to anyone who will take the boy away from the workhouse. Oliver is eventually apprenticed to a local undertaker, Mr. Sowerberry. He is then badly treated by the wife, kids, and servants that blackmail him and force him into leaving 4 years after initially moving in with the family. Outside London, Oliver, starved and exhausted, meets Jackie Dickens. Jackie offers him shelter in the London house of his benefactor, Fagin. It turns out that Fagin is a career criminal who trains orphan boys to pick pockets for him. Oliver is then sent on a pick-pocketing mission with some of the group. When he sees them swipe a handkerchief from an elderly gentleman, Oliver is horrified and passes out. He is caught but narrowly escapes being convicted of the theft. Mr. Brownlow, the man whose handkerchief was stolen, takes the feverish Oliver to his home and nurses him back to health. Mr. Brownlow is struck by Oliver's resemblance to a portrait of a young woman that hangs in his house. He eventually leaves and gets out, that's when Fagin And Sikes find him and capture him to torture him into stealing Mr. Brownlow. Even after multiple sessions of torture, Oliver is still set on not stealing the only person that actually treated him right in his life. Nancy, a member of this massive gang, and Bill Sikes's lover eventually tells Mr.Brownlow about Sikes. Fagin, having men from his gang spy on Nancy, tells him the whole story. When word of Nancy's disclosure reaches Sikes, he brutally murders Nancy. After the incident, both of the gang leaders, Sikes and Fagin get captured by the police and get a death sentence. Oliver is re-united by his family and Brownlow turns out to be his long lost grandpa.
