- Based in the late 19th Century, we follow the story of the successful upper class politician and military officer, Ludovic Scott, as he re-lives his adventures while writing his memoirs. Ludovic lives in a high point of the British Empire where his life is full of friendship, love, wealth, honour and status - however he also faces war, treachery, revenge and death. Throughout the series we are lead along the story by the narration of Ludovic Senior as he writes. The pilot focuses on the start of Ludovic's journey, when the young, middle class soldier's world becomes completely unravelled by the beautiful Josephine - a shy, withdrawn lady of the upper class. Why is this a problem? Because in a few days Ludovic will be sent to war. Not only that, but Ludovic's jealous friend, Obadiah, also shows an interest in Josephine and begins scheming his demise. Obadiah arranges a meeting, but becomes increasingly enraged by Ludovic's infatuation with Josephine. He realises the war is the perfect opportunity to 'dispose' of Ludovic and take Josephine for himself. However, Ludovic is conflicted by the choice to make over what he desires more. The woman of his dreams? Or his Queen and Country? To stay would make him a coward like his father. To go would mean he risks losing Josephine forever.
