- Germany still has a very good health system and law that says each woman might decide where and how to give birth, either in maternity clinics, in birth centers or at home. Unfortunately, this choice of where to give birth developes to become "luxury" as it is in many other countries in the world! German midwives are affected by an increasing professional indemnity insurance - each year by approx. 1.000 Euro - but unfortunately there is not an adequate payment for them! In addidtion, more and more insurances do not insure midwives anymore, because being a midwive is called a "risk" and therefore contains financial losses. Thus midwives in Germany are forced to quit their jobs! Besides that, even the staff in a maternity clinic (midwives + doctors!) are affected by a steady increase of an insurance premium! Therefore several baby delivery stations in hospitals close their doors permanently, because they cannot afford to pay the necessary insurance premium anymore! The result is that becoming parents (already!) don't find a midwive for childbirth in any way! Professional indemnity insurances and health insurances calculate the costs that occur if there happens a case of damage - a physical injury to the baby during birth. They calculate for many decades including the medical progress and the increasing life span of a handicapped person. These costs are directly shifted to the liability premiums. However, it shows the economic view and thinking. * How did the problem of liability insurance develope - an who is (really!) affected? * How is it possible that Germany loses its free-lancing midwives and by that a part of its health system just because of an enormous liability premium? * Why is it that Germany sacrifices its freedom of choice? * Are there any approaches to solving the problem abroad?
- In this intimate portrait about the feminist Kaouthar Darmoni, director Klara Til travels to Sousse, Tunisia, where Kaouthar grew up. Through interviews and conversations with key figures from her childhood, we learn how the young and rebellious 'Coco' had to fight hard to escape from the suppressing chains of society and her conservative family to maintain her freedom. Her dream was to go to Europe to study, the place where women were emancipated and free. Once in Europe, Kaouthar had to face a big disillusion: the women there weren't as free as she thought they would be and Western emancipation seemed to go hand in hand with suppressing femininity. Something she refused to do. As a university lecturer in gender studies Kaouthar, inspired by her Tunisian roots, started her mission to heal femininity. With her taboo-breaking Goddess (belly)Dance method she awakens the primal female force which lays in the belly. With humor, confidence and her expressive personality she brings women back in contact with their feminine sensuality and power, the same way she learned it as a young girl back in Tunisia. Even though she had hated living Tunisia, she started realising how free and pure Tunisian women are. The feminity and sensuality amongst the women still remains as one of her most precious memories from her childhood.
