- A man who commits insurance fraud by deliberately causing accidents on the freeway creates a deadly situation. Baricza is injured and another CHP officer is killed.
- An Evel Knievel-style stunt cyclist evades, outwits and embarrasses the CHP, so Harlan develops a supercycle to put Ponch on a level playing field.
- The Christmas season doesn't mean any less work for Jon and Ponch. At the community church, thieves run off with a 15th century bell that means a great deal to the local kids. - Ponch flies on patrol in a CHP helicopter and is asked to appear at his old high school's Career Day. Jon helps him entertain the audience. Ponch and Jon locate a missing boy and solve a series of residential burglaries.

They send Bruce to the school, undercover and gets close to a girl who knows the ones they're looking for.
- Toxic waste is being dumped. Jon and Ponch have their four-year anniversary for riding together, and Ponch works an off-duty detail on a movie set.
