- The village prepares for Compo's funeral; even Auntie Wainwright closes her shop (her mobile phone is on for emergency purchases). Compo's "Thursday Lady" arrives to pay her respects.

- Compo is missing Blamire, we learn from him, that Cyril Blamire has gone to live in Oswestry, after hearing a lady he is interested in has become a widow. Clegg has received a letter from Balmire, this letter asks the to meet someone off the bus. This someone is to be Foggy Dewhurst, whom they knew from their childhood and youth, he was a corporal sign writer, but now civilian. He is returning home to Arnold crescent, but no longer has any living relatives to meet.He arrives loaded with keepsake metal signs. Within a short time of meeting up with Foggy, Clegg announces Foggy is a "genuine 14 carat gilt edged barm pot". Foggy has fight fight in a pub with one of Compos many cousins, we don't see it, but despite Foggy boasts it last very little time, and the cousin comes in unscathed, unlike Foggy. The trio is now established.
- Nora Batty wants Compo, Norman and Seymour to take her mother's old mangle (wringer) to Sammy Peters. Howard attempts to become a master of disguise.

Howard is worried that Pearl is attracted to a taller man, and tries several futile methods of increasing his height. Auntie Wainwright is keen on getting Smiler to make a delivery so she can collect on the sale, but Smiler becomes hesitant when he learns who the customer is. Glenda persuades the ladies to have a picnic lunch, but of course with Edie behind the wheel, no one enjoys the drive in the country. Their picnic spot is determined when they simply refuse to travel any further, and they soon find that the location is not as secluded as they might have wished.
- Clegg moves into his new house and Compo decides to impress Nora with his water-rescue skills, and Foggy becomes Ivy's new Fix-It-Man... and Barry has misplaced his car's engine.

Barry goes to Auntie Wainwright for Glenda's birthday present.
- Auntie Wainwright tries to talk her way out of a speeding ticket. Barry is in trouble with Glenda because Marina kissed him again.
- Foggy finds a discarded mattress and embarks on a campaign to clean up the area.

- Foggy has Wesley fix a pair of old WW2 walkie-talkies and he has Clegg and Compo take one out for a test, but a tractor mangles Compo's and he and Clegg have to come up with a way to explain the mistake without upsetting Foggy - enter Howard & Marina to the rescue!

Compo and Clegg take Foggy to the library, to Foggy's indignation, this becomes the first time he has ever been thrown out of a library. The trio meet up with Stuart,he has a troublesome leg, They all go to the café, where they all, including Sid, have a look at Stuarts leg, and then a listen for the click it makes, incurring Ivy's wrath. They try to fix the roof for her, but as you would expect it all goes very wrong.
- Compo is envious of Smiler because Nora Batty has asked him to help around the house. Foggy thinks that he can break Compo out of a pouty mood by teaching him pole-vaulting to impress the ladies.
- Compo is very upset that Nora Batty has taken Smiler as a lodger. Foggy attempts to cure Compo of the "evil spirits" causing his depression by dancing.
