- Howard had a problem on a flight which makes him afraid to fly. Bob tries to help Mr. Herd to overcome his fears and try new exciting things. However, Bob has his own frightening experience to deal with also.

- The Hartleys throw a Christmas party. However, the group gets angry with Bob when the printer screws up their Christmas cards. Their friends are also fighting with one another, so no one wants to go to the party.

They know their friends will eventually track them down, because the Hartleys were providing the food and booze for the celebration.

- Bob Hartley resists his therapy group booting out a caustic patient, when he doesn't show up with the brain cake at their birthday party for Bob. That's only part of Dr. Bob's bad day, but it gets worse when Emily isn't sufficiently sympathetic. To unload his anger, Bob uses reverse psychology on the often-missing Mr. Gianelli by calling him, shouting that he's out of the group, plus fired as a client. Bob expects the contrary Mr. Gianelli to return to group, contrite for his disruptive behavior. But before he can, Mr. Gianelli, a fruit vendor, is crushed to death by a load of vegetables.
- Bob & Emily have vacation plans to visit Mexico. Bob seems hesitant, but he says he is excited to go. At work, a patient thanks Bob for the session and whacks him on the back - throwing his back out of whack and in pain.

Bob wishes he'd never proposed the retreat, because his new therapy group is jealous that he only invited his other group to go, plus Emily made Bob feel guilty for leaving her out of the fun in the wilds of Wisconsin, so she's coming along too. Everybody is spooked at the vision of Eliott Carlin again streaking through the woods naked.
- Bob and Carol review his accounts and which ones still owe for services. Jerry suggests a collection agency, but Bob does not want to do that. Bob gets a job offer to be a company psychologist where he does not have to deal with billing.
- Bob's college roommate ('the peeper') visits Chicago and shows he has not lost his school age demeanor. He keeps extending his stay, causing friction between Bob and Emily.

The notoriously abrasive Carlin luxuriates in the role reversal, insisting therapist Bob lay on his own couch, then advises Bob to launch an all-out rent strike among the aloof tenants of the lakeside apartment building.
- While Bob's away at a conference, Emily wants to meet their reclusive neighbor - much to the dismay of Howard who's initially frightened of her.
- One of Emily's students wrote an great report for class, but she knows it was written by the father who wants the boy to be moved to an advanced class. The principal of the school tries to convince Emily to skip the child.
- Jerry feels a bit depressed and decides to buy a motorcycle. He wants to borrow money from Bob. Bob turns him down and says it is to save their friendship. Jerry is upset that Bob won't loan him the money.

- Bob learns that Jerry has certain luxuries like a yacht. Jerry attributes it to his business manager, Jeff. Jerry arranges for Bob to meet him. Part of his program is for him to be in complete control of their finances which means Bob won't have access to any of it. And he gives Bob $50 a week for pocket money. But when Bob uses it right away and asks Jeff to give him a little more. Jeff tells him that to give him the receipt for what he used it on but because he doesn't get a receipt, Jeff gives him a lecture.
