Commissioner Buitendam is on first name (Corneel) basis with both society families since his college days, to Vledder's sarcastic amusement. De Cock wants to know why widow Sofia Kant is as protective of Baris as his own father Max, while her son Ivar demands the killer be arrested. It turns out both families have secrets, one even a paternity matter which may be crucial for the fat inheritance.

Meanwhile womanizer Vledder is suspended by Buitendam pending a formal complaint from an 'inappropriately treated' woman.

He was on bad terms with his grumpy neighbors, including sculptor Siep Wijers, rumored to have an affair with Fokkema's girl-friend Viola, which both deny. Recluse Wim Van Eck's alibi in an obvious fake. Rude rumor-monger Mrs. Harskamp keeps her cancer-recovered daughter Jolien in bed needlessly, but she sneaks out to be with Tjeerd's abused dogs, which she and Wim care for. Old secrets, including a whole identity, are needed to close the plot.

Cor had shady dealings with rival fancier bald Gerard, a grumpy recluse. Cor was known widely to cheat with foxy pigeon club-official Tineke Toolen on his his pregnant wife Anja, who shares an alibi with her father Manfred Tol, who never applauded the marriage. Meanwhile Buitendam gives top priority to the royal heir Willem-Alexander's wedding.
- Kees van der Vlis is fatally stabbed with a filleting knife in the major fish firm he ran with his blind brother Henk and his ambitious protégé, Robert Overkleeft. The MO fits the treat a day earlier by Özkul, the Turkish father of a menial employee who was allegedly sexually abused by Kees. The murder also means reinstatement for CFO Jaap Tetteroo, who was fired recently for gambling debts. Buitendam fears forced retirement, but is screened for a higher knighthood.
- At Christmastide, Amsterdam shelter junior salvo Betty de Wijn is murdered. Obvious first suspect is regular homeless junkie Ferdy van Nieuwkerk, who found her with major Dreef. It soon becomes clear even Salvos can be deeply involved in illegality, such as drug dealing, as certainly applies to Betty's ex, now an officer-trainee. Tragically, a suspect is killed himself.
- De Cock and his team investigate the murder on an old woman who turns out to be a witch- a Wiccan, to be precise. Suspects include a high priestess and an Ethiopian priest whose name is drawn in blood near the corpse.
- In charge while De Cock is on holiday, Vledder doubts Dr. de Koninghe's suspicions about he apparently natural, yet unprovoked death of Annie Bunk, one of the pensioners in Mrs. Nachtegaal's private Amstyerdam retirement home. De Cock convinces him to order an autopsy anyhow, which suggests murder. Bunk has (potential) heirs from two marriages, who lie about alibis. Things have disappeared from the deceased's room. Nachtegaal and her unpaid deputy, pensioner Jacob Breekland, have their own secrets.

- Grim Bible-obsessed, terminally ill contractor Karel Huberts confesses the murder 19 years ago, i.e. past the Dutch statute of limitation, of his neighbor boy Mark Scholten (then 17), whom he suspected of 'raping' his actually consenting daughter Marijke, who since refuses all contact with both parents. The skeleton masoned behind a well in the basement of an apartments building Huberts helped construct at the time is identified as Mark's. The victim's surviving brother, restaurateur Hans Scholten, who has a criminal record, rages at the police, including De Cocq, who never acted on his suggestions that Karel did it and maintains the old murderer abused Marijke himself. Shortly after, Karel is butchered like a pig.
- Just after his prison-release, Amsterdam pimp Regilio Graanoogst is murdered. Shortly after, his popular jailer Nico van der Kolk suffers a similar fate. The team looks into rivalry between illusive local crime king Adriaan de Koning and Graanoogst's rival street gang, inherited by brother Orlando, but also personal matters, such as infidelity, and improbable coincidences with alibi relevance.

The notary points out that prevents the finalizing of his new will, which provided a competition between his bitterly opposed twin sons Alex and Kasper for control of the firm, while widow Ilse, who claims it was her idea, negotiated a shares sale to competitor Douma, whose wife's affair with Ronald wasn't the only suspicious one. Keizer meanwhile is abused by women after a drunken memory-lapse.
- De Cock and his team investigate the murder on a celebrity, and discover a connection to the trade in forged art. Also, the man's wife was having an affair. Vledder tries to get Prins to come with him to a wedding as a witness.
- De Cock and his team investigate the murder on a gypsy man at a bachelor party. At the gypsies' trailer camp, they are informed that he was about to marry a rich girl, to her father's dismay.
- Vledder reacts sarcastically when he and De Cock are called to the crash site in the field of KLM pro-pilot Hans Holstege's private airplane, where Durch air authority official Rob Maartens remains vague about the incident. Hans was drugged with chloroform and a neighboring farmer saw a parachute drop nearby. His widow Ida lies about her marriage and whereabouts, pointing at his denounced smuggling colleague René Grenier's. The team digs up more old grudges.
- A successful businessman is found murdered aboard a replica of a Dutch East India Company vessel. De Cock and his team find plenty of motives, for instance an ex-employee who went bankrupt because of him, and even the man's own children.
- An unpopular publisher of ladies' magazines is found murdered. While investigating, De Cock and his team discover that the man abused and cheated on his wife. Strangely, all suspects seem to have an alibi.
- De Cock and the rest of the team are shocked when a young police officer is strangled during an open day at the police station. A reporter appears to know more about the murder.
- Leading Amsterdam restaurant critic Johannes de Boer is found in a street dumpster, poisoned in a triple mustard sauce dinner. His wife lies as if she were filing for divorce, while he was and the prenuptial would have left her destitute. His often abusive reviews ruined several restaurateurs, unlike his nephew Wouter Bossong, whose is still in financial trouble. Buitendam enjoys finding out which restaurant serves the mustard dish. De Cock however also discovers another type of grudge.

Visiting NYPD chief inspector detective Jack Feretti claims all Dutch crimes are drug-related. De Cock's theory something can literally not be overseen leads to chemistry student Harry Koenraad.
- De Cock and his team investigate the death of a man who appears to have hung himself after winning the lottery. It turns out to be murder, and lots of greedy people from the neighborhood are suspects. With Prins' replacement still not present, the team is understaffed, and Peeters fills in.

During the investigation De Cock meets an old acquaintance who turns out to be deeply involved in the case.

Despite a bitter separation, the serial adulterer left a huge life-insurance benefiting his ex and daughter. His vitriolic columns made many enemies among actors and writers. One of them was allegedly seen entering the house in the fatal night. Baantjer wades trough alibis and motives, yet reconsiders taking account of a possible accidental factor.
- De Cock and his team investigate the death of a Turkish college student, who appears to have been pushed out of her living room's window.
- De Cock and his team investigate the murder on the beautiful owner of a record label and event office for house-parties. 100,000 guilders earned from a house-party are missing, and the testimonies of suspects and witnesses alike are hampered by the fact that they were under the influence of alcohol or drugs around the time of the murder. To further complicate things, one of the suspects turns out to be under investigation of the Narcotics Service, who forbid De Cock to talk to him. Also, Den Koninghe has been retired and replaced with a slow new pathologist. De Cock fights to keep his good friend in the field.

The murder weapon was stabbed while he still lived by an employee, Keizer's sister Yvonne, who brings Appie the bloody knife at home. Unlike Vledder, who once flirted with her, Keizer must abstain from field research, but the medicines he brings her are used for an OD suicide. Chris was hated by his son Koen van der Kamp, who he neglected like his late mother during her fatal cancer and was failing to keep his promise of supporting Koen's directing debut. Koen has an affair with Chris's second ex. Chris was undesirable to the parents of his third bride to be, a movie critic, slept with Yvonne and had a vicious conflict with director Olof Baltus.
- The team wrongly feared losing the case after Keizer's sister Yvonne's OD suicide in jail, which they don't consider a convincing confession. The knife is traced to Olof Baltus, but his alibi comes trough. Chris's son's motive is proved and his alibi overturned, but he now admits having seen fiancée Gonnie Selbach, whose reason for lying puzzles De Cock. Her unmarried father Max de Vries's hostility to Den Coninghe and interest in 1940s film history lead to unearthing several wartime family secrets at both sides and tragic mistakes, then and recently.

An animal smuggling opponent thinks the illegal trade gang they were after ordered him murdered, so De Cock searches for a possible inside accomplice.
- A confused Vledder is found near the body of a shot man, with traces of gun powder on his hand and his fingerprints on the murder weapon. De Cock can't believe that he committed the murder, and continues to investigate the murder even though another team is already working on it. It turns out that the other team is led by a vengeful former colleague of De Cock.
- Four year-old Omar Mahfouz is found in his divorced ma Lisette van Swieten's home, skull smashed with a metallic object. Lazy Lisette has a history of unpunished abuse and dumps endless chores on Omar's sister Anne (7). Yet she points at the father, hard-working Egyptian immigrant Alheib Mahfouz. Like her boarder, psychology student Frederik Hoffman, she fakes an alibi. Grumpy neighbor Trudy de Winter couldn't stand the noise made by both hyperactive kids and owns a metallic walking cane. While most colleagues get all emotional and the commissioner forbids officially questioning Anne, Jurre also considers an accident.
- Wealthy Maria Spijkers, from Baantjer's wife's neighborhood gossip circle, is found murdered at home. The fat inheritance makes estranged daughter Annemarie Spijkers, who disapproved of her generosity to the Catholic church, the obvious suspect. Still De Cock considers other suspects, such as janitor Jalal Barzani, who has a violent past.
- De Cock and his team are in for a mysterious case when an unknown man is found dead in a car graveyard. The murderer appears to be a pro, but De Cock begins to doubt that theory after a second corpse is found.
- Fifteen years ago, then junior detective De Cock's senior colleague Frank van der Meulen was retired early for obsessing about his never substantiated theory that youth friend Elisabeth's suicide was murder. After a nightmare about Frank, De Cock goes see him, only to hear he died the day before from cardiac arrest while jogging with friend Joop van Klaveren, MD. Without legal cause, De Cock gets Den Koninghe to perform an informal autopsy, which shows fatal atropine poisoning. De Cock now looks into Frank's theories, rekindled by the new possibilities of DNA tests. His suspects included all common friends, such as both widows and Peter de Wit, once Frank's rival for Elisabeth. The whole bunch remained on friendly terms, but De Cock's questions stir a lot.
- Leo Gans's international accountancy firm branch's employee Carmen van den Bergh tells at the precinct she beliefs a car deliberately tried to run her down after she noticed serious aberrations in one of shady businessman Lars Hoek's firms' books, but refuses to show the proof. Iris De Graaf, on duty, accompanies Carmen to Harry Breugel's motel, where she's murdered the next night. Screening the accounts and clients, De Cock finds Iris held back crucial information, linking Carmen to a traumatic hold-up with bloodshed 20 years ago, and even a visit that night. He officially reports it, yet recommends and obtains a mere one month suspension.
- After presumed key-witness Harry Breugel's staged suicide, suspended Iris comes clean about the harp tattoos linking these cases to her bloody burglary trauma and continues her parallel 'investigation', almost leading to loss of evidence. De Cock no longer believes it's about money laundering but links it to accountancy branch chief Leo Gans and his wife's dark past, and not just theirs.

Back in Amsterdam, a similar text is painted on his house. Meanwhile, Vledder's father is attacked in Vledder's house, and a woman who accused Keizer of sexual abuse, even providing a semen sample, is found dead, leading Keizer to be suspected of the murder. On top of everything, De Cock's wife is assaulted and ends up in the hospital, unconscious.
- Following the chain of mysterious attacks, De Cock concludes that a recently released murderer caught by the team in the past is now trying to get revenge. Several old cases are re-investigated. Meanwhile, Keizer is still under suspicion of murder, and Mrs. De Cock finally wakes up.
