He and his Harvard friend Jack Lemmon tried their hands at songwriting in New York but were unsuccessful. He directed, wrote, or produced for CBS and other networks on several productions, including Leonard Bernstein conducting the New York Philharmonic. Robert Montgomery optioned his first play "The General's Other Son."
He married actress Bethel Leslie on June 7, 1953 and they had a daughter, Leslie. They later divorced in 1963.

Dean Copkov was born on 1 April 1966 in Canada. He was an actor, known for The Incredible Hulk (2008), Pacific Rim (2013) and RoboCop (2014). He died on 22 January 2019 in Collingwood, Ontario, Canada.- Angelo Bertolotti, also known as "AJ" is a World War II combat veteran wounded in the service of his country. AJ is the natural father of the late film and television star Brittany Murphy. The senior Bertolotti is pursuing the investigation into the death of his daughter, film star Brittany Murphy and his son-in-law Simon Monjack.
Bertolotti came under attack when trying to find the true cause of his daughter's untimely death as well as that of his son-in-law, Simon Monjack. The couple died five months apart, in the same house, same room, under the same circumstances with a belated, ill prepared, haphazard cause of death with the LA County Coroner findings of their identical deaths from pneumonia and anemia. No toxicology report was done despite the suspicious cause of death with Brittany only 32 years of age.
Bertolotti was kept from the cemetery by the ex-wife, Sharon Murphy, who exerted all efforts to keep AJ away from the media and events. Sharon Murphy met AJ Bertolotti, who went to work for him where he owned strip bars and discos in Florida and Georgia. The young Sharon was attracted to the money and influence to the dark side of society where Bertolotti grew up in the mean streets of New York City, in an Italian family that was very, very well connected.
Despite a rich and colorful and sometimes questionable history, Sharon enlisted the aid of family associate Alex Ben Block to slander and defame Brittany's father publicly and in writing via the industry rag, The Hollywood Reporter that AJ Bertolotti was not her biological father making these material misrepresentations contrary to AJ's name is clearly listed on Brittany's birth certificate.
A close look at the family pictures arching Brittany's childhood, clearly shows on one could deny Brittany is the daughter of Angelo "AJ" Bertolotti. Bertolotti in the tradition of the "Sopranos", "Goodfellas" and "The Godfather" was incarcerated and paved the way financially for Brittany and her mother to move to California to pursue Brittany's dream to become a star in the film business where despite the facts, Sharon and Brittany were well taken care of.
Sharon was a controlling stage mother but could never sever the ties between Brittany and her father AJ who would sneak and meet over the years. The senior Bertolotti chased after the Los Angeles Police Department who closed their investigation in one hour after the death of Brittany and the Los Angeles County Coroner allowed the death certificates to linger for over a year before a determination as to the cause of death.
Brittany had been called as a witness in the Julia Davis case, a former federal officer who had reported a national security breach and targeted with massive acts of retaliation that included warrantless surveillance by the Department of Homeland Security, NSA, IRS attacks, two selective and malicious prosecutions. Julia Davis and her husband, film producer/director BJ Davis were exonerated of any wrong doing with the false charges dismissed. The Hollywood couple sued the Department of Homeland Security, Herbert P. Kaufer and Jeffrey J. Deal naming Brittany as a witness to the excessive and gross government misconduct.
The agency could not afford Brittany Murphy to testify in a very public and revealing trial by jury. Brittany reached out to her father and the Davis' as she became a target of the government, her husband Simon was attacked in the same manner as the Davis'. The Department of Justice had targeted Brittany and Simon to be prosecuted for visa/marriage fraud as FOIA papers revealed.
Julia Davis broke the story of Brittany having poisons discovered in her remains obtained by court litigation. Julia Davis with Britt's father AJ collaborated to litigate the Los Angeles Coroner office and LAPD to get Brittany's remains for testing for poisons.
Two independent labs confirmed traces of poison and high concentrates of heavy metals in the remains of the young film star, Brittany Murphy. After a couple of years of litigation the LAPD and LA Coroner elected to settle and provides the remains to be tested when a disclaimer they could not be sued for negligence.
Famed Pathologist and attorney Cyril Wecht supports Bertolotti's claims his daughter was murdered and the young couple both need further testing, and exhumation to confirm and determine the their actual cause of death. Media and others have tried to distract from the facts surrounding Brittany Murphys' untimely death. - Additional Crew
