- Jovan Sterija Popovic (1806-1856) was one of the most famous dramatists to emerge from the Balkans in the 19th century. He was a famous playwright, dramatist, comediographer, and pedagogue. He is considered by many to be the Father of Serbian Drama. His famous dramas were (and still are) "Kir Janja", "Pokondirena Tikva", "Rodoljupci", "Zapiske", and many others.
