Ledger Died From Accidental Drug Overdose

Actor Heath Ledger was killed by an accidental overdose of prescription drugs, the New York Medical Examiner has ruled. An autopsy into the star's death in January failed to establish the cause of his death, but an overdose was suspected because a number of prescription medicines were found in his Manhattan apartment. Toxicology test results released on Wednesday established six different drugs were found in the actor's system - including painkillers, sleeping pills, anti-anxiety pills and antihistamines - when he died. A statement from the Medical Examiner reads, "Mr. Heath Ledger died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam, and doxylamine. We have concluded that the manner of death is accident, resulting from the abuse of prescription medications." Ledger - who was found dead on January 22, aged 28 - is expected to be buried at his family's plot in Karrakatta Cemetery in his native Perth, Australia. A private funeral will reportedly be held on Saturday with his ex-fiancee Michelle Williams and their two-year-old daughter Matilda in attendance.

Spears Released From Hospital

Britney Spears has been released from the psychiatric ward at UCLA Medical Center, according to new reports. The pop star was committed to the Resnick Neuropsychiatric wing of the Los Angeles hospital on Thursday upon the advice of her personal doctor. Spears was initially placed on a 72-hour hold; this was upgraded to a 14-day stay at the weekend. But the Los Angeles Times newspaper reports Spears was released on Wednesday morning. There were no more details available as WENN went to press with this story.

Pregnant Lopez Stuns at New York Fashion Week

Jennifer Lopez stunned the stylish at New York City Fashion Week on Wednesday by showing off her baby bump in a breathtaking teal Marchesa dress. Despite reports she's ready to deliver twins at any moment, Lopez couldn't stay away from the catwalk and braved the big freeze in the Big Apple to attend the Marchesa show. She said, "I'm feeling good. I haven't gone out a lot for the past few months, but Marchesa has been incredibly good to me. They are just amazing!" And the ever-fashion conscious star admitted she simply cannot pull off the sweatpants look that other mums-to-be adopt just before they go into labor. She added, "People make fun of me because when I do have them over to my house I do have a dress on. I don't like the way the sweats look with the extra weight." Lopez's father, David, confirmed his daughter was expecting twins during an interview with a Spanish-language news show on Monday.

Eric Dane Battling Cancer

Grey's Anatomy star Eric Dane has been battling skin cancer since he was diagnosed with the deadly illness last month. The 35-year-old actor became concerned after noticing an unusual patch of skin above his lips and immediately sought medical treatment. He tells OK magazine, "I went to my dermatologist. He said it was malignant tissue caused by sun damage." Doctors treated the growth by freezing it off with liquid nitrogen and Dane admits it was a traumatic procedure. He adds, "My skin is very sensitive and my lip was traumatized by the procedure I had to go through. I didn't eat very well for a couple of weeks and lost a bunch of weight." Despite dropping over 10 pounds during his ordeal, the actor now insists he is on the road to recovery.

Spielberg & Farrow Fight Over Darfur

Legendary director Steven Spielberg has hit back at Mia Farrow after the actress accused him of supporting the Chinese funding of the genocide in Darfur. Farrow, a Unicef Goodwill Ambassador and human rights activist, is angry that Spielberg failed to turn down an invitation from the Chinese government to be an artistic advisor for the forthcoming 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The Hannah And Her Sisters star insists the moviemaker should not get involved with China as the state has been accused of funding the war in the stricken West Sudanese state. She says, "It has been nearly a year since Mr. Spielberg contacted President Hu about Beijing's role in the Darfur genocide. Given the deteriorating situation on the ground, we hope that Mr. Spielberg will waste no more time - and officially distance himself from the Games." However, a representative for Spielberg has refuted Farrow's suggestions. Andy Spahn insists the director is doing all he can to help stop the atrocities in Darfur - even spearheading the campaign led by George Clooney and Don Cheadle to bring the world's attention to the crisis. He tells New York Post gossip column PageSix, "Steven left the set of his Indiana Jones movie to fly to New York to meet with the Chinese delegation. He is totally committed to stopping the genocide in Darfur."

Thurman Given "Stalker" Case Court Date

Uma Thurman will stand face-to-face in court with the man accused of stalking her next month. A judge at Manhattan's Supreme Court in New York has set a tentative trial date of March 11 for Jackson Jordan, 36, who is charged with harassment and felony coercion. He is accused of attempting to gain entry to Thurman's trailer on a New York movie shoot, and sending her letters and drawings, including a sketch of the actress digging his grave. Another letter read, "I feel afraid that if I see you out again with anther man, I will want to kill myself." Jordan has turned down the offer of enrolment in a mental health program - which would have shortened any custodial sentence he is given - because he wanted to see her in court. The defendant's lawyer George Vomvolakis has revealed he intends to argue in court that "he was just a romantic pursuing the woman that he loved." If convicted, Jordan faces a minimum sentence of one year in a mental health institution.

Allen Fears Losing Johansson To Party Lifestyle

Film director Woody Allen fears Scarlett Johansson will ruin her promising acting career by indulging in the party lifestyle - advising her to take inspiration from Meryl Streep instead. The moviemaker worked with the 23-year-old on several film projects and insists she is one of the most talented stars of her generation. But Allen is terrified she will destroy her chances of major success if she goes the same way as other young actresses and gets involved with the movie industry's infamous party scene. He tells New York Post gossip column PageSix, "(Johansson) is so beautiful and so sexy and so gifted... she can do anything, but she has to make the right choices of films and she's got to not go the Page Six party route. I don't want to read about her in the paper with this boyfriend or that boyfriend, or in rehab or taking pills. I don't think she's always made great choices. She has to take her acting seriously... the way someone like Meryl Streep did it."

Blaine Postpones His "Most Demanding Stunt Yet"

Illusionist David Blaine has postponed his bid to stay awake for 13 days, because it's his most physically demanding stunt yet. The 34-year-old is training and dieting obsessively to prepare his body for the world record attempt - which he has already confessed he fears will leave him brain damaged. The feat was planned for New York City in May - but will now take place in July or August. Blaine tells the New York Post, "This one demands a lot out of me. I run 13 miles a week around Central Park's reservoir. I'm down from 230 to 195 pounds in seven weeks. And of course I'm dieting. My raw diet has brown rice, no red meat or animal products besides fish. Nothing fits anymore. My wardrobe's a disaster. I'm using belts. I need to drop another eight pounds and then stay this way. It's not healthy to go up and down."

Hoarder Delta Burke Checks Into Psychiatric Hospital

Beloved American TV star Delta Burke has checked into a psychiatric hospital in a desperate bid to conquer her obsessive-compulsive disorder and "hoarding" issues. The 51-year-old actress - who is famed for her role in U.S. comedy Designing Women in the late 1980s - admits she feared becoming one of those sad women who die under a pile of collected newspapers and bric-a-brac. She tells Tmz.com, "I was on so many medications and they just weren't working and I knew I needed to get my meds worked out. I was on five (different medications). We were thinking the mania hadn't been properly diagnosed. I have severe depression. I knew I had general anxiety and I knew I had problems with obsessive compulsion and the hoarding, which I really want to work on. Have you seen those shows where they don't find the body for days? And they go in to clean up, and it's stacks of newspapers up to the ceiling? That's hoarding, and I hate it."

Mills To Sue Law Firm for "Bad Representation"

Heather Mills, the estranged wife of Sir Paul McCartney, is set to sue her former legal firm for 'misrepresentation', according to reports The model/activist is set to face her husband in court next week during a scheduling hearing as part of their divorce proceedings, but could be facing another legal battle with former lawyers Mischon De Reya. The legal firm dumped Mills in November last year, reportedly because the star defied a gag on talking about the couple's daughter Beatrice, four. In December, the company threatened legal action over $4 million in outstanding bills in relation to her bitter divorce from McCartney, and are said to be keen to press ahead with the case. However, Mills is planning to countersue Mischon De Reya over allegations of "bad representation." Mills and McCartney's divorce case will continue next week - with Mills representing herself in court. The couple split in 2006.
