Britney Seeking Treatment for "Mental Issues"
Britney Spears' longtime companion, Sam Lutfi, has revealed the singer has sought treatment for a series of mental issues. Lutfi called revered newswoman Barbara Walters over the weekend in a bid to clear up reports about the singer's health. And when Walters asked him if she could talk about their conversation during her morning show The View on Monday, Lutfi agreed. She told viewers about their chat, stating Lutfi referred to himself as Spears' manager. She revealed, "I can't vouch for this; he seemed to be very knowledgeable and he certainly was very nice. He said that Britney is suffering from what he describes as mental issues which are treatable. He said that she has been to a psychiatrist... she has been having mood swings, she's been having trouble sleeping... Whatever has been happening, she's now sleeping." Lutfi also told Walters that Spears has reconciled with her mother Lynne after a period of estrangement. Walters said, "She is in touch with her mother... and her mother has been very supportive." The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg admitted to Walters she wasn't surprised by Lutfi's comments, adding, "I said I thought there was something emotionally wrong. I think this girl has worked and worked... and she's burned out." Walters then revealed Spears had dumped her paparazzi boyfriend Adnan Ghalib, who went public with romantic details and taped messages the singer had left him on U.S. news shows last week. The TV host added, "I'm not an authority... but I believe she has moved away from this boyfriend."
Gosling Pays Subtle Tribute to Ledger at SAG Awards
Ryan Gosling paid a special tribute to pal Heath Ledger at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday - by wearing a special black ribbon on his lapel. The actor's sister Mandy designed the subtle black bow for the Lars And The Real Girl star because she felt Ledger's death should be acknowledged on the red carpet. Gosling's sibling, who was his 'date' to the awards, says, "We just had to mark something terrible has happened." And the actor himself used interest in his black ribbon to urge the media to leave those grieving Ledger's shock death last week to mourn in peace. He said, "They (media) should leave all the people in his life alone. It's terrible." He wasn't the only one with Ledger on his mind - Best Actor winner Daniel Day-Lewis dedicated his award to the Brokeback Mountain star.
Heckling Sean Young Escorted Out of DGA Awards

Actress Sean Young was escorted from the Directors Guild Of America Awards show on Saturday for heckling filmmaker Julian Schnabel, nominated for his film The Diving Bell And The Butterfly. Schnabel was the last of the five Best Director nominees to take the stage to make a speech at the Los Angeles ceremony - but, after a few moments, he was forced to stop when Young shouted, "Come on - get to it!" A shocked Schnabel stopped to find out the identity of his heckler, and asked Young to finish his speech for him. Schnabel then returned to his speech after receiving encouragement from the star-studded audience, while Young was escorted out of the venue by two security guards, falling over as she left.
Gilliam Trying To Save Last Ledger Film

Filmmaker Terry Gilliam is determined to "salvage" the movie Heath Ledger was midway through making when he died last Tuesday. The veteran director and Ledger were filming scenes for The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus in London just days before the actor was found dead in his New York apartment. And despite the sudden tragedy, co-star Christopher Plummer claims a "terribly saddened" Gilliam is doing all he can to finish the film. Plummer says, "Terry's throwing himself into the job of trying to salvage the picture. (He's) trying to work out, at this moment, how to continue on. Fortunately, because the film deals with magic, there is a way, perhaps, of turning Heath into other people and then, using stills and I think they call it CGI. Terry was a very good friend of Heath's. He very much wants to go on with the movie, and I can very much understand why. Because he wants to dedicate it to Heath, of course." Last week, Plummer revealed he suspects shooing The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus at night in London's cold, damp climate could have contributed to Ledger's death. An autopsy failed to reveal how the actor died, although police believe his death could be drug-related as five different bottles of prescription drugs were found around his apartment.
Snipes' Confident Lawyers Don't Call a Single Witness

Actor Wesley Snipes' defense team in his tax and conspiracy trial rested on Monday after not calling a single witness. The Blade star stands accused of conspiring to defraud the U.S. out of millions of dollars in 2000 as part of a conspiracy scheme with co-defendants Eddie Ray Kahn and Douglas Rosile, and then failing to file tax returns. But Snipes' legal team is so certain the case against the 45-year-old will be thrown out of court, no defense witnesses were summoned to take the stand. The prosecution rested its case on Friday. Snipes' attorney Daniel Meachum says, "We chose not to call witnesses because there was no need to. The government prosecutors have put on a case that simply does not come close to meeting the standard of its burden of proof. It was obvious after we went over the evidence the government presented that we could move on to closing arguments immediately and get a just acquittal for Wesley on all counts listed in the indictment." Snipes faces up to 16 years in prison if convicted, while Kahn and Rosile both face a maximum 10 year sentence.
Cruise Videos Were "Good for Scientology"

Leaked videos of Tom Cruise singing the praises of Scientology were good publicity for the controversial religion, church elders have confirmed. Footage of an energized Cruise promoting the religion found its way onto the internet last week, prompting an outpouring of criticism aimed at the star. But Scientology bosses insist the star's bizarre monologues, in which he referred to the faith as "a blast" and saluted a statue of founder L. Ron Hubbard boosted the church's profile. A spokesperson tells PageSix, com, "Having presented these selective and out of context excerpts with the intent of creating both controversy and ridicule resulted in people searching for Church of Scientology websites. The clip on the internet was nine minutes long. It was edited to make Tom look really crazy." Last week, actress and fellow Scientologist Kirstie Alley came to Cruise's defense, claiming the video was never meant to be seen by the general public. She said, "Tom was using words meant for a Scientology audience. On the web, the video is take out of context. It's like a rabbi addressing a Christian church, speaking in Hebrew. No one would understand him."
Crowe Named As Sydney Ambassador

Hollywood superstar Russell Crowe will head an advertising campaign for Sydney in the U.S. - after he was named as an ambassador for the Australian city. The Gladiator star - who was born in New Zealand - will feature in promotional campaigns to promote Sydney to the American market and increase visitors from the U.S. As well as Oscar-winning Crowe, other ambassadors who will appear in the promos include billionaire businessman Peter Holmes a Court and world-surfing champion Layne Beachley - both native Australians. Morris Lemma, premier of Sydney's state New South Wales, says, "They are international heavyweights who can influence people from industry, business, entertainment and sport. Their public support of Sydney will encourage people to visit and invest in business, tourism, the arts, sport and education. The Sydney ambassadors will be part of a promotional campaign that will appear in the U.S. later this year."
Dane & Gayheart Nearly Missed SAG Awards

Actor Eric Dane and his wife Rebecca Gayheart almost missed the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday - because their car broke down on the way to the Los Angeles ceremony. The couple was heading to the Hollywood event when they experienced car trouble and were forced to change vehicles - twice. Grey's Anatomy hunk Dane says, "(It was) just a hiccup. Transport problems; we went through three cars getting here." Gayheart adds, "The battery died. Our friend was driving us here, then they had to send another car to meet us halfway. It was an adventure!"
SAG Stunt Awards Go To 'Bourne Ultimatum' & '24'

Stunt performers from The Bourne Ultimatum and 24 also won big at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night. The tough men and women that added the action to the film and TV drama picked up SAG awards for Outstanding Performance by a Film and Television Stunt Ensemble. The announcement was made on the red carpet at the 14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards by 3:10 To Yuma star Ben Foster and SAG President Alan Rosenberg.
