Murphy Confirms Split

Eddie Murphy has confirmed he and his wife of two weeks have split. The Dreamgirls star wed music mogul Tracey Edmonds in Bora Bora on January 1 after a year-long romance. The couple was planning to renew their vows in an official ceremony on American soil after learning their private island nuptials carried no legal significance in the U.S, but that didn't take place. In a statement released on Wednesday, Murphy explained, "After much consideration and discussion, we have jointly decided that we will forego having a legal ceremony as it is not necessary to define our relationship further. While the recent symbolic union in Bora Bora was representative of our deep love, friendship and respect that we have for one another on a spiritual level, we have decided to remain friends." A source tells In Touch Weekly the couple fell out over the plans for a legal ceremony. The insider tells the magazine Murphy was upset when his new bride refused to take his name. Edmonds wanted to keep her existing name - from her marriage to R&B star Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds' - because her sons have that surname.

Paltrow Expecting Third Child?

Gwyneth Paltrow was admitted to hospital because she is expecting her third child, according to U.S reports. The Shakespeare In Love star spent Monday night at New York's Mount Sinai Hospital, where she underwent treatment for an unknown ailment. But the New York Daily News claims Paltrow was taken to the hospital by her husband, Coldplay's Chris Martin, because she is pregnant. A source tells the publication they saw the couple in the maternity wing of the hospital, adding, "They looked very serious. She looked upset. They went right past everyone and into the elevator. It seemed like they were expected." However, Paltrow's spokesman Stephen Huvane says speculation about a troubled pregnancy is "guesswork at best." He adds, "This is a private matter not for public consumption." The couple already has two children, Apple, three, and one-year-old Moses.

Snipes Warned by Advisors About Tax Evasion

Movie star Wesley Snipes has been accused of ignoring warnings from his advisors about not paying his taxes. The Blade star is currently on trial in Ocala, Florida, on charges of conspiring to defraud the U.S. of millions of dollars in 2000. Snipes, 45, and two other men, Eddie Ray Kahn and Douglas P. Rosile, stand accused of tax fraud and conspiracy. The star is also charged with willfully failing to file tax returns from 1999 to 2004, on the advice of Kahn's tax protest groups American Rights Litigators and Guiding Light of God Ministries. Snipes was allegedly convinced by his co-defendants that a loop hole in the law meant he didn't have to pay tax on his multi-million dollar earnings. But prosecutors insisted in the trial's opening arguments that Snipes was warned by his longtime advisor Kenneth Starr that there was no merit to the claims that he could escape paying tax. Snipes faces up to 16 years in prison if convicted. He recently failed in his bid to move proceedings from Ocala, after insisting the townsfolk were racist, and he wouldn't be able to get a fair hearing. Before appearing in court, Snipes took part in a vigil with the leaders of several predominantly black churches, who then followed the actor to court.

'The Kite Runner' Is Banned in Afghanistan

Oscar favorite The Kite Runner has been banned in Afghanistan, because of a graphic scene showing the sexual assault of a young boy. The movie, which is set in the war-torn country, won't be screened there after the culture ministry deemed the attack scene "ethnically orientated" - because the boy was raped by another from a different community. Indian movie Kabul-Express was banned in 2007 on similar grounds. Deputy culture minister Najib Malalai says, "When one member of an ethnic group is attacked by people from a different one, it makes it seem that ethnicity was the cause for this type of act. It cannot be accepted." The four young stars of the movie have already fled Afghanistan for the U.S. fearing they would be targeted because of the harrowing scene.

Witherspoon's Eye Blister Stops Shooting

Actress Reese Witherspoon brought filming on her new movie to a halt after developing a painful blood blister on her eye. But the actress was more concerned about closing production on the set of Four Christmases for half a day, than her eye condition. An on-set source says, "Reese kept apologizing to everyone from producers to the lighting guys." In the film, Witherspoon stars alongside Tim McGraw and Vince Vaughn, who is also one of the movie's producers. The source adds, "Reese was especially concerned about Vince's reaction to her causing the work stoppage. He's not only her leading man but one of the film's producers. He was more concerned about her eye than losing a day's shoot."

Turner Died From Cocaine Overdose

Late R&B star Ike Turner died from a cocaine overdose, according to officials in San Diego, California. The musician, who was once married to Tina Turner, died on December 12, aged 76. Following a full autopsy, it was determined on Wednesday that drugs were the cause of his passing. Turner battled a cocaine addiction on and off since the late 1960s, which transformed him into a violent control freak, according to Tina Turner in her autobiography. Turner's drug problems became infamous in the late 1970s amid a series of financial and legal woes; he was arrested numerous times for drug-related crimes. During the 1990s, Turner confessed he had turned his back on drugs and it appeared he had been clean ever since. Turner was laid to rest in California last month after a star-studded memorial service.

Berry Petrified of Giving Birth

Mother-to-be Halle Berry is terrified at the prospect of giving birth - insisting childbirth is more nerve-wracking than awaiting the winners' announcements at the Academy Awards. The first-time parent, who suffers from diabetes, has been warned by doctors she will have to be carefully monitored when she goes into labor in the coming months, because her condition can cause birthing complications. She tells British magazine Reveal, "I'm worried about giving birth. I've been pretty cool about my pregnancy up until lately, but suddenly I'm realizing that there's a baby that's got to come out and someone is going to have to be there to push it out. Emotionally, I'm a bit of a mess. Besides all the hormones bubbling and boiling inside me, the anticipation is starting to get to me. I'm more nervous now than I was during the Oscars." Berry - who won an Academy Award in 2002 for her performance in Monster's Ball - is expected to give birth to boyfriend Gabriel Aubry's baby in March.

Britney To Sue Over Leaked Portraits

Britney Spears is planning to sue a photographer who sold candid pictures of the singer with her two sons for $1 million. Dani Brubaker was hired by Spears to take a series of portraits of the star with Sean Preston, two, and one-year-old Jayden James in November. The pictures were printed in last week's U.S. edition of OK! magazine without Spears' permission. Although Brubaker didn't sign a confidentiality agreement and holds the copyright to the photos, sources tell PageSix.com, she breached an agreement with Spears not to make the pictures public. The website claims the snapper rejected offers of up to $500,000 for the images in December, claiming her "integrity wasn't for sale" but then hired a manager to strike a deal with OK! magazine. Spears is expected to hire top litigator Howard Weitzman to sue Brubaker. A source says, "All legal options are being explored at this time. Brubaker must be dealt with, and Britney will absolutely proceed, in the very least, to sue her." Brubaker reportedly plans to donate the money she made from the sale of the candid photos to a children's charity.

Winehouse To Divorce?

The father of troubled singer Amy Winehouse fears her jailed husband Blake Fielder-Civil is planning to divorce his daughter. Mitch Winehouse has revealed that Fielder-Civil, who is currently being held on remand at London's Pentonville Prison on charges of perverting the course of justice, is sick of rowing with his famous spouse and has threatened to divorce her. Fielder-Civil is said to be far from happy with Winehouse's decision to spend a festive holiday in the Caribbean with her ex-boyfriend George Roberts - while he was behind bars. And now Winehouse has been spotted partying with music producer pal Mark Ronson, sparking rumors of an affair. The singer's father has fuelled speculation that the pair's marriage is on the rocks - and, according to celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, he is blaming Fielder-Civil's mother for encouraging a split. Mitch Winehouse tells British magazine Grazia, "Blake threatened to issue divorce proceedings when they were having a row. Unfortunately, Blake is influenced by things his mother has said. I think Georgette (Fielder-Civil's mother) wants them to divorce, but it's up to them. From Amy's point of view, she would stick by him not matter what. But he has said things like, `I want a divorce'." The couple wed in Miami, Florida last May.

Faith Hill Recovering From Knee Surgery

Country singer Faith Hill is recovering from surgery to realign her knee cap. The singer reportedly smashed her knee during a high school softball game when she was a teenager and the injury was never properly treated. A spokesman for Hill reveals she also underwent an adjustment procedure to her knee joint in an effort to end years of nagging pain and discomfort. In a statement Hill says, "Doctors had told me to stay off my feet for a bit, and now I'm following their rehab program. I intend to be back better and stronger."
