Lohan Recovering After Emergency Surgery

Lindsay Lohan is back in the hospital after having emergency surgery to remove her appendix yesterday. The 20-year-old star was diagnosed with appendicitis after feeling ill on Wednesday and sought medical attention. Her representative Leslie Sloane confirmed her condition to American publication People saying, "She does have appendicitis, and she is getting her appendix removed." Sloane said the Mean Girls star was recovering and resting comfortably in a Los Angeles-area hospital. Just days ago, Lohan was celebrating the New Year in Miami, Florida, where she was seen chatting with ex-boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama. This isn't the first health scare for the star - she fractured her wrist in September after a fall at a party in New York City and was hospitalized in July after becoming "overheated and dehydrated." After a New Year's Eve celebration in 2005, Lohan was admitted to a Miami hospital suffering from a severe asthma attack.

DiCaprio and Mirren Lead SAG Nominations

Babel, Dreamgirls, Little Miss Sunshine, Leonardo DiCaprio and Dame Helen Mirren will lead the way at the Screen Actor's Guild Awards later this month. The three films each earned three nominations, while DiCaprio and Mirren won two acting nominations - DiCaprio in the Best Actor category for Blood Diamond and as Best Supporting Actor for The Departed. Mirren was nominated as Best actress in the movie category for The Queen and in the TV movie category for Elizabeth I. Other actors up for awards include Dreamgirls stars Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson, Babel stars Adriana Barraza and Rinko Kikuchi and Little Miss Sunshine actors Alan Arkin and Abigail Breslin. A Lifetime Achievement award will presented to Julie Andrews at the SAG Awards ceremony in Hollywood on January 28. SAG winners traditionally go on to scoop prizes at the Academy Awards, held a month later.

Hilton "Fired" From Club Paris

Paris Hilton will no longer be associated with two nightclubs called Club Paris, because the socialite's failure to attend scheduled appearances has angered the venues' owner. Fred Khalilian refuses to change the name of his flagship club in Orlando, Florida or that of its sister club in nearby Jacksonville. He has now "fired" Hilton, who even arrived six hours late for the Orlando club's opening two years ago, and wants the two Club Paris' to refer to the French capital instead. Khalilian says, "She's created a circus for herself. It's all about, how has she screwed up now?" Hilton's spokesman Elliot Mintz, who claims neither Hilton nor himself have been contacted by Khalilian, says, "I'm certainly disappointed to learn of Fred's unfortunate comments. We shall address his statements at the appropriate time."

Brando's Maid Settles Lawsuit

Marlon Brando's former maid has settled a lawsuit against the executors of the late screen legend's will, after claiming they had amended the will without his knowledge. Angela Borlaza worked for Brando for nine years and cared for him during the last years of his life prior to his July 2004 death. Borlaza filed suit against producer Mike Medavoy, Larry J. Dressler and Avra Douglas in 2005, claiming she was a victim of fraud, deceit and a broken oral contract. She alleged the trio changed the Oscar winner's will 13 days before his death, replacing his former trustees with their own names. Borlaza insisted the actor was too ill to sign the will and that they forged his signature. She also accused them of wrongly evicting her from the property Brando had bought her in San Fernando Valley, California. Last month, Borlaza agreed to settle the case for $243,750 through arbitration.

Naceri Held Over Attempted Murder

Actor Samy Naceri is being held by French police on suspicion of attempted murder. The French star of Luc Besson's Taxi movie series was arrested on Tuesday night in Aix-en-Provence after getting into a violent fight outside a night club in the area, and is now in police custody. According to police officials, a drunk Naceri drew a knife on a doorman after he was refused entry to the club. The star was later treated in hospital for an injured jaw and broken teeth. Naceri was also arrested a day earlier on New Year's Day for driving without a license in Marseille. It is the latest series of run-ins with the law for the 45-year-old actor, who was sentenced to six months in prison for racially abusing a policeman in December. Naceri has been convicted four times since 2000 for assault, drink-driving and speeding.

Spears Working To Overcome Negative Publicity

Britney Spears is devastated fans are disappointed with her recent bad behavior and is vowing to get her life back on track in 2007. The singer has recently made worldwide headlines for her partying, pantyless antics with the paparazzi and a New Year's eve incident in which she reportedly passed out at a Las Vegas nightclub. Spears' manager Larry Rudolph says, "She understands what's going on right now, and she calls it her 'rocky moment.' Britney knows exactly what she needs to do. I'm not defending (her behavior), and she's not defending it. (With regards to New Year's Eve) we were sitting there drinking orange juice. She got tired in a club, and we took her back to her room. Suddenly, I'm hearing words like 'collapsed' and 'passed out.' From what they've been seeing and hearing, I understand the disappointment (from fans). But Britney is increasingly motivated to get out there. She sees this as a challenge, that some fans may be questioning her. She is respectful. She sees this as her challenge to win them back. She's taking all the right steps. Britney Spears will be back and absolutely at the top of the entertainment industry very soon."

Hannah Launches Sex-Slave Crusade After Escaping Sick Trade

Kill Bill star Daryl Hannah narrowly avoided being sold as a sex slave in Las Vegas in the late 1970s and is now coming forward with her seedy secret to help others forced into prostitution. The actress, who has joined forces with international human rights groups to help free sex slaves, reveals she was studying theatre in Los Angeles when she leaped at the chance to model for an album cover in Sin City. The 46-year-old told crime show America's Most Wanted that she quickly realised the modeling trip was a scam and she was about to be forced into a sex-slave ring. Hannah told show host John Walsh she and another girl escaped out a window and fled back to Los Angeles, but she has always been haunted by the memory of how close she came to becoming forced into prostitution. And now the environmentalist and humanitarian is using her movie dollars to help those who weren't so lucky after learning there are more than 14,000 girls smuggled into America annually from Eastern Europe and Asia who become part of secret sex rings. She says, "The more I learn, the more I am moved to take action."

Anderson Blasts Ex Rock

Pamela Anderson has launched a thinly disguised attack on her estranged husband Kid Rock, apparently branding him self-obsessed and "childish". The former Baywatch star was furious to learn Rock tried to get physical with her other ex Tommy Lee on New Year's Eve in Las Vegas after being taunted by the wild rocker over his split from Anderson. Writing on her website, the actress insists she is "excited about moving on" from Rock and finding a new love, rumored to be actor and former Hell's Angel Chuck Zito. She says, "I need a man with interests outside of himself, someone with similar beliefs." And apparently alluding to the Lee incident she adds, "A rock star scorned... it's been a hard month - completely childish threats. I'm so disappointed. That's why my friend Chuck Zito has been with me. He's great security." Anderson and Rock, real name Robert Ritchie, split in November after just four months of marriage.

Schwarzenegger Misses Pre-Inauguration Party

Arnold Schwarzenegger was forced to miss his pre-inaugural celebrations as Governor of California, after doctors urged him to rest his broken leg. The Terminator had to sit out of the two-day festivities before being sworn in as Governor today as experts warned Schwarzenegger not to "anything that would jeopardize his recovery." Schwarzenegger says, "After meeting with my doctor, he has advised me to rest, elevate my leg and stay off of my feet for as long as possible." Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Kevin Ehrhart, who operated on the star's broken leg on December 26, says, "Governor Schwarzenegger is recovering from significant surgery on his femur. His recovery has been extraordinary, and I am adamant he not do anything that could jeopardize that recovery." Schwarzenegger broke his right femur last month in a skiing accident.

ABBA Star Ordered To Pay $2.1 Million In Tax

Former ABBA star Bjorn Ulvaeus has been order to pay 16 million kronor ($2.1 million) in undeclared royalties by Swedish tax officials. The "Dancing Queen" hitmaker is accused of tax evasion, with officials believing Ulvaeus siphoned his royalty payments into a Netherlands-based construction company. Victor Palm, a spokesperson for the country's tax office, says, "He is paying less tax than he should." Last year, Swedish authorities presented Ulvaeus with a 90 million kronor ($13.1 million) bill for backdated taxes, fees and interest rates prior to 1984, when he moved to the UK. ABBA enjoyed chart success in the 1970s and 1980s, selling 370 million albums across the world.
