Jennifer & Paul Celebrate Baby News

Newlyweds Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany are expecting their first baby together. The A Beautiful Mind co-stars, who wed in private at the beginning of the year, are said to be ecstatic about the news. Connelly already has a five-year-old son, Kai, who she had with photographer David Dugan. The Oscar-winning actress will next be seen in the long-awaited film version of The Hulk, co-starring Eric Bana, due out this summer.

Joel's Friends Beg Him to Go Back to Rehab

Billy Joel's friends and family are begging the rocker to go back into rehab to beat the booze once and for all. They fear that his recent car crash, which put the Piano Man singer in hospital, was the result of a drinking session after news that Joel was spotted drinking with two women in a hotel just before he headed off in his Mercedes. Police didn't breathalyze the 53-year-old rocker at the scene because they felt sure he wasn't intoxicated. But his ex-wife Christie Brinkley and friends aren't convinced, according to a new report in American tabloid Globe. A close friend says, "Billy thinks he can ride this thing out without any help, but he's wrong."

Jackson Files Complaint

Pop superstar Michael Jackson has made an official complaint to British TV watchdogs over the controversial documentary on his life. His lawyers sent complaints to the Independent Television Commission (ITC) and the Broadcasting Standards Commission (BSC), claiming he had been "unfairly treated" by the Martin Bashir program, broadcast in Britain on Monday. His legal team also attacked the documentary - called Living With Michael Jackson - accusing it of being an infringement of the star's privacy. The complaint to the ITC claims the program, which has sparked concerns about the Thriller hitmaker's relationship with kids, "contains the clear innuendo that Mr. Jackson is guilty of inappropriate behavior with children." It says the use of voiceovers, editing and the questions asked gave credence to allegations made against Jackson in 1993 of a serious sexual offense with a 13 year-old child. His lawyers say the star was not told that, "the subject matter and the purpose of this part of the program was to infer sexual impropriety on the part of Mr. Jackson." Jackson is also up in arms about the inclusion of his own children in the program - alleging that the TV crew were instructed not to film them. In his complaint to the Bsc the singer states, "They ignored this request and when I asked them to stop filming the children, they refused, telling me that did not want to interrupt the continuity of filming but that they would not appear in the final program." He also claims he had not been given the opportunity to view the program before it was broadcast, contrary to what he was promised.

Jackson's Sales Soars

Shamed pop prince Michael Jackson has remarkably profited from the shocking British TV documentary screened on Monday night - his record sales have soared. British retailers have reported a 1,000 per cent increase in sales of some of his albums. HMV's Gennaro Castaldo says, "They're flying out of our stores. We have seen a 1,000 per cent increase in sales of his Greatest Hits Volume 1 this week and Thriller sales increased by 500 percent on Tuesday alone." British tabloid The Sun reports Jackson is now in hiding in a Florida hotel.

Campbell Pursues Privacy Case

Supermodel Naomi Campbell has taken her privacy battle with a British tabloid newspaper to the UK's highest court. An appeal, last October, stripped the 31-year-old catwalk queen of $8,550 in damages and costs awarded to her after she sued the Daily Mirror for breach of privacy by reporting her visit to a drug clinic. But Campbell has vowed not to give up the fight, and is now seeking a ruling from the House of Lords - Britain's most senior court. Three judges considering the appeal Friday put their decision on hold to allow newspaper bosses to object to Campbell's move. The Mirror - who now have until February 18 to object - won their appeal after a three-judge panel ruled their reporting was "justifiable in the public interest."

Liz Hurley Wins New Lauder Contract

British beauty Liz Hurley is celebrating after signing another contract with cosmetic giants Estee Lauder - she'll now promote them until 2006. According to her close friend, Sir Elton John's partner David Furnish, the glamorous star has extended her current contract by three years, which will take her endorsement of the brand up until she turns 41. Furnish says, "She is thrilled because Estee Lauder have just signed her up for another three years, which is a great move for her. She will continue promoting fragrances." He also revealed the Serving Sara star is enjoying more happiness than ever. He adds, "I have never seen her more contented than she is now. She has a beautiful baby boy, who is bright-eyed and completely adorable. I have not met her new chap, but she seems very happy." The deal is worth a reported $3 million a year.

Troyer Falls Off the Wagon

Austin Powers star Verne Troyer has left friends worried for his health by reportedly spectacularly ending his no-alcohol rule. Troyer, who plays Mini Me in the spoof franchise, has struggled with alcoholism for the last year. He was admitted to hospital after a row with his girlfriend led to a drinking binge. And despite a spell of rehabilitation with Alcoholics Anonymous, the pint sized actor was back on the drink during a flight to a public appearance. A source tells Britain's The Sun newspaper, "A friend tried to stop him but Verne snapped, 'I can handle it, I know what I'm doing.' They got into a heated argument and made a big scene on the plane. Despite his size, Verne can put away a lot. It seems he's losing his battle with booze. He has missed AA meetings, which he attended regularly for a while. Pals think he's buckling under pressure of work. He often has to be away from home and finds it hard."

Ryan Finds Love Again

Blonde star Meg Ryan has found love again with an unknown actor - just as her former husband and boyfriend plan to wed. Ryan has been spotted on cozy dates with 31-year-old Chicago Hope television actor William Keane. Meanwhile, her ex-husband Dennis Quaid and former beau Russell Crowe, with whom she had a torrid affair, are arranging to wed respective girlfriends Anna Poche and Danielle Spencer. In a When Harry Met Sally-style story, the actress has known Keane for 10 years but their friendship has not been romantic until recently. A pal says, "They got together over the Christmas holidays, spent a romantic New Year's Eve together, then took a trip to New York, where they held hands as they strolled the streets of Manhattan, dined out and played in the snow."

Reality Hits Cris Judd

Jennifer Lopez's dancer ex-husband Cris Judd is set to propel himself back into the limelight - by appearing as a contestant in a reality TV show. Judd, 33, has been tapped to compete against other lesser-known stars in I'm a Celebrity - Get Me Out Of Here, TV network ABC's new reality series, which will air live for 15 consecutive nights on American TV screens starting February 19. On the show, Judd, whose divorce from J.Lo was finalized late last month, will compete Survivor-style against Melissa Rivers, Bruce Jenner, Robin Leach and former MTV host 'Downtown' Julie Brown, amongst others, in an Australian rainforest. Judd is also hoping to carve out an acting career, after signing up to play a martial arts instructor on American sitcom Half & Half.

Farrell Attacks the IRA

Irish movie star Colin Farrell has launched a one-man attack on the Irish Republican Army (IRA) - because he thinks the terror group are "scumbags." The Dubliner admits he's sick of what the IRA has done to his beloved country, and the reputation the Irish have has been tarnished as a result. He says, "You cannot f***ing put a bomb on a crowded street and kill a lot of men, women and children and call your cause just. There is no f***ing justification for that. A hit is a different thing. It's still wrong to take another life. I'm not condoning it, but that's much easier to justify than what the Ira has gotten involved in."
