Wonder Woman's invisible jet still off Hollywood's radar

5 hours ago | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Maybe it’s the invisible jet? Wonder Woman has been soaring as a pop culture icon since the Roosevelt era but she can’t get on Hollywood’s radar when it comes to a solo silver-screen adventure. This summer’s Man of Steel gives Superman his eighth feature film (tying him with Batman) but Wonder Woman is stuck at zero and at this point her best IMDb prospect is a gal-pal supporting role in the shaky-sounding Justice League movie.

We took the topic to filmmaker Kristy Guevara-Flanagan (Going on 13) whose documentary Wonder Women! The Untold Story of American Superheroines is »

CNN’s ‘Crossfire’ Back In June; Cancelled In 2005

6 hours ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

After the failed week long experiment of (Get To) The Point and the unsteady The Lead With Jake Tapper, Jeff Zucker is looking for a blast from the past to revive CNN. The ratings-struggling cable new network is bringing back Crossfire in June, network insiders tell me. No hosts have been chosen yet, the sources say. Nor is it clear if the show will definitely remain a half hour, as the original Crossfire was, or go longer. Right now it seems that Crossfire 2.0 is slated to have a variety of CNN personalities and contributors taking up the “left” and “right” roles on the new version of the political debate show. A CNN standard almost from the begining, Crossfire ran on the network in both daytime and primetime from 1982 until it was cancelled in 2005. Crossfire isn’t the first piece of CNN history Zucker has brought back since taking over in January. »

Melissa McCarthy hosts tonight's 'Saturday Night Live': Talk about it here!

7 hours ago | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Melissa McCarthy has already proven herself. She won our hearts on Gilmore Girls, turned Mike & Molly into something actually worth watching, and broke through on film in the mega 2011 hit Bridesmaids.

Best of all, she showed herself to be a capable and nimble host the last time she stopped by SNL. In 2011, McCarthy’s first night at the rodeo won critical praise and high ratings. It may have spiked Hidden Valley’s salad dressing sales as well. (Er, maybe not.) This time around, she comes to the show as an even bigger star: McCarthy has both The Hangover III and »

'Dancing With the Stars' scoop: Lisa Vanderpump faints during rehearsal, future on show unclear

8 hours ago | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star and Dancing With the Stars competitor Lisa Vanderpump fainted at a rehearsal this week for DWTS, a source close to the show tells EW. It is unclear yet whether she will return to the competition.

Vanderpump, 52, is paired with newcomer pro Gleb Savchenko on season 16 of DWTS. Last week, the pair avoided landing in the bottom two of the competition, but a lackluster performance meant they were still “in jeopardy.”

Primetime Pilot Panic: The Early Buzz

8 hours ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

It’s the first week of April, and we’re kicking off our annual Pilot Buzz series. Keeping with tradition, the first list only includes a limited number of projects that have been garnering strong early buzz as the vast majority of pilots are still filming or going through post-production. So we will omit those on which there is no conclusive feedback yet and will reserve judgement on those that we hear not so good things about until next time. If the rather dull Pirates Of The Caribbean Disney ride spawned a successful movie franchise, could the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad do the same on the small screen? Despite taking jabs for its origins and casting mostly unknowns, Big Thunder is a surprising early leading contender on the drama side at ABC. Not so surprising is the very strong early showing of the McG-directed Romeo and Juliet-esque soap Venice, with another soapy drama, »

Kathy Griffin’s Bravo Talk Show Cancelled

8 hours ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

After two seasons on air, Kathy Griffin‘s late night talk show Kathy is not being renewed, Deadline has confirmed. The comedienne dropped the news during a live stand up show Friday night in Cincinnati, Ohio as first reported by The Cincinnati Enquirer. The cancellation could free her up for a potential jump to CNN for the hourlong show opposite Anderson Cooper that Deadline told you the pair filmed last week. It also comes two months after an exec switch-up at Bravo saw the network change hands from Lauren Zalaznick to Bonnie Hammer. Griffin won two Emmys while at Bravo for her reality series Kathy Griffin: My Life On The D List. Related: CNN Eying Anderson Cooper-Kathy Griffin Series? »

'Jurassic Park': A drinking game 65 million beers in the making

10 hours ago | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

There was a period of my life when I was watching Jurassic Park on practically a weekly basis. It was the year after graduating from college, and my friends and I had a tradition of popping in the DVD whenever we couldn’t think of anything else to do — which was admittedly often. At one point, we managed to watch the movie more than a dozen times in the course of a single month and it got to the level that we were quoting the entire movie along with it like some crazed cult. Naturally, we also developed a drinking »

'Mad Men': What major world events could appear in season 6?

10 hours ago | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

The new season of Mad Men kicks off this Sunday (read our review of the premiere here). As usual, the plot of the new season remains shrouded in mystery; the only photos that have surfaced so far show Don and Megan Draper lounging on a beach in Hawaii, which could mean that Mad Men is transforming into Mad Men: Hawaii, and the new season will be all about the Drapers’ wacky attempt to run a hotel in Maui. More likely, though, Mad Men’s sixth season will once again track the employees of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce as they »

The top rated and third most watched show of the night, 9 Pm’s Shark Tank (2.1/7) had some real bite on Friday. In its second week back after three weeks off, the entrepreneurial reality show rose up 24% from its March 29 airing. TV ratings: 'Happy Endings' rises a little Friday while 'Vegas' struggles

12 hours ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Fast National ratings for Friday, April 5, 2013

"Happy Endings" ticked up in its second week on Fridays, rising three tenths of a point in the 18-49 demographic over last week and providing a glimmer of positive news for the on-the-bubble show. CBS' "Vegas," however, struggled in its first Friday airing, failing to reach a 1.0 rating in adults 18-49.

ABC's "Shark Tank" scored the best 18-49 rating of the night, while CBS' "Blue Bloods" had the biggest total audience, as it usually does. "Grimm" scored its best 18-49 rating in four weeks for NBC.

CBS easily won Friday's total-viewer crown, averaging 8.9 million people and a 5.8 rating/10 share in households. ABC (5.2 million, 3.3/6) came in second. NBC took third with 3.7 million viewers and a 2.4/4. Fox (2.3 million, 1.5/3) was fourth, and The CW (924,000, 0.6/1) trailed.

ABC led the 18-49 demographic with a 1.6 rating, beating out CBS' 1.3. NBC managed only a 0.9, but that was still good enough for third. »

SAG-aftra & Ad Industry Reach Tentative New Commercials Contracts Deal

13 hours ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

After almost two months of talks, SAG-aftra and the advertising industry early today struck a deal on new television and radio commercials contracts. If approved by the union’s National Board of Directors at its April 20 to 21 meeting, these agreements are intended to replace the last three-year contracts that formally expired on March 31. The negotiations, covering contracts with about $1 billion in yearly earnings, were the first contract talks conducted by the union since SAG and AFTRA merged last March. However, with now typical SAG-aftra secrecy, the union said today that no details of the new agreements would be made public to anyone including union members in advance of the Board’s review. Once the board has signed off, the deal will be sent to the full membership of 160,000 for ratification. SAG-aftra co-President Roberta Reardon did say in a statement Saturday that “we’ve made essential gains for SAG-aftra members and »

Thandie Newton's Cop Drama Series 'Rogue' Debuted This Week; Did You Watch? Thoughts?

13 hours ago | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

I'd forgotten that this new series was to premiere this week - on Wednesday. And it did, by the way. I really didn't see very much marketing for it online, or much conversation about it on all the social media sites that I'm practically connected to 18 hours a day.  I suppose those folks with DirecTV, where the series is airing exclusively, likely did see promos for it leading up to the premiere episode.  Did anyone with DirecTV watch it? And if you did, your thoughts? What I don't understand about DirecTV's marketing strategy for it is why they didn't take a page out of Netflix's House Of Cards release plan, which I think would've drawn more attention to the series, and maybe encouraged more new subscriptions to DirecTV. What Netflix did with House Of Cards was that they released episode 1 of the series online for Free for one month, so »

Sluggish Friday Ratings Start for CBS Drama ‘Vegas’

13 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

CBS rookie drama “Vegas” is looking like even more of a long shot to return for a second season after a sluggish debut on its new night Friday. ABC won the night in demos as “Shark Tank” hit series highs and both “Happy Endings” and “20/20″ were on the rise.

“Vegas,” the 1960s-set series starring Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis, averaged a 0.9 rating/3 share in adults 18-49 and 7.6 million viewers overall, according to preliminary Nielsen estimates; it had earned a 1.5 demo rating in its final Tuesday airing, behind the popular “NCIS: Los Angeles.”

While no series transferring from Tuesday to a lower-watched night like Friday would be expected to produce as high of ratings, “Vegas” looked particularly shaky given that CBS performed well both at 8 p.m. with “Undercover Boss” (1.6/6 in 18-49, 8.5 million viewers overall) and at 10 p.m. with “Blue Bloods” (1.4/5 in 18-49, 10.8 million viewers overall).

Jack Black gets roasted: Here are the top 15 zingers of the night

The moment we heard that Jack Black was this year’s honoree at the infamous Friars Club roast, we expected a good show. What we didn’t expect was that Al Roker and Bob Saget would become the target of more jokes than Black himself.

During Friday’s roast, led by roastmaster Bob Saget, the insults were flying. And while most of them were funny, there were a few topics that got old fast. Yes, Al Roker pooped his pants. We get it. Yes, Jerry Lewis is very, very old. And so is Gene Simmons. And The Beach Boys. People get old, »
