The Worst Movies of February

28 February 2013 10:25 AM, PST

"Shut up there a minute, I gotta introduce myself!" When Peter Travers speaks with such cantankerous fervor, it can only mean one thing: It's scum bucket time! Our fearless film critic is back to dig up the absolute dregs to hit the screen this February, from the pointless 3D reissue of Top Gun to the horrendous Beautiful Creatures to the insufferable latest Nicholas Sparks melodrama Safe Haven.

Travers rounds out his list with Bruce Willis' obvious paycheck flick, A Good Day to Die Hard, and Sylvester Stalone's awful but »

'Nashville' Recap: O Brother, Where Art Thou?

28 February 2013 8:35 AM, PST

Between Rayna's road spats with Juliette, Teddy walking out on her, Avery gloriously failing at life and Liam's general smarminess, Nashville was really on a roll until that last uneventful dud of an episode aired. Luckily, that snooze-fest was merely a hiccup. Nothing like some tabloid controversy, celebrity cameos, a relapse into alcohol addiction and the show's first death to get the drama back into gear on what was Nashville's darkest, heaviest tearjerker to date. And all in an episode that centered on a party? Even better.

"What keeps me focused and what kept me from getting stressed from being hurt by the comments is I'm doing it for my sisters, I'm doing it for my brothers, and I don't care who tells me I am not this and I am not that," the Star Trek actress said. "I know who I am, »

'American Idol' Recap: Zoanette Johnson Wows Judges With 'Lion King' Song

28 February 2013 6:45 AM, PST

Ten more girls faced sudden-death elimination in Las Vegas last night as American Idol culled its top 40 down to a lean 20.

The first half of the night was filled with solid if not particularly memorable performances by talented singers with bright futures ahead of them. Randy Jackson described the evening's performances as a "mixed bag" verging on "sleepy" while resident optimist Keith Urban applauded the evening's "diversity." Perhaps the biggest surprise was the elimination of Cristabel Clack. The happily married worship leader belted out Alicia Keys' "No One" so »

Jimmy Kimmel: Morrissey 'Keeps Finding New Ways to Depress Us'

27 February 2013 9:00 AM, PST

After Morrissey canceled his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night over sharing the show with the stars of the A&E reality series Duck Dynasty, Kimmel poked fun at the former Smiths singer with a special skit. "There a very good reason why I didn't dump the Duck Dynasty guys for Morrissey, and it's because they have guns," said Kimmel. "He keeps finding new ways to depress us." Kimmel then jumped into the skit, which featured a new Duck Dynasty especially for vegans.

Dan Auerbach, Vince Gill and Pam Tillis Cameo on 'Nashville'

26 February 2013 11:30 AM, PST

So far, Nashville has shied away from tapping into Music City's vast stable of stars for celebrity cameos, focusing instead on the fictional fame of Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton) and Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere). That all changes in this week's episode, which features guest appearances from real Nashville notables Vince Gill, Pam Tillis, Kip Moore, Kate York and the Black Keys' Dan Auerbach. They play themselves as guests at a star-studded surprise party that Juliette throws for Deacon (Charles Esten) at the Bluebird.

Peter Travers: Damn You, Oscars 2013!

25 February 2013 11:35 AM, PST

The 85th Annual Academy Awards are officially over, and Peter Travers is none too pleased. "You enjoyed three hours and 40 minutes of total boredom?" he quips. But Travers isn't even talking about the Academy's selections and snubs; he's focused on the Oscars show itself. Though Travers is a fan of host Seth MacFarlane, he rips the Ted and Family Guy creator for his performance. "He turned it into the Tony awards with musical numbers," fumes Travers, especially focusing on the William Shatner bit and numerous singing interludes. "It was so dull. »

"It was crude and offensive – not to mention inconsistent with The Onion's commitment to parody and satire, however biting," Hannah wrote. Of course, favorites typically get sequels, and Kimmel has unveiled Movie: The Movie 2V, featuring Bradley Cooper, Jessica Chastain, Samuel L. Jackson, Bryan Cranston, John Krasinski, Gerald Butler and more. Sexy leprechauns appear, Krasinski suffers excessive superhero tragedies and Bruno Mars stops the madness to preach for peace. Adele Turns Up Power at Oscars With 'Skyfall'

25 February 2013 5:30 AM, PST

Adele brought a mix of classic elegance and sheer magnetism to her performance of "Skyfall" last night at the 85th Academy Awards, where she also won an Oscar for the song. Back by a string section on one side and a rock & roll combo on the other, the singer shimmied slightly as she performed for the first time since giving birth last fall. Adele's vocals sounded low in the mix at first, but she turned on the power as her theme song from last year's James Bond film built to a crashing finale. »
