Evil Dead (2013) Review

4 April 2013 11:09 PM, PDT

Evil Dead is the remake of a film that has achieved such cult status among horror aficionados that it was a risky film to make. The path that so many other remakes of 80s horror classics navigated could have been taken casting pretty people with no real regard for their characters or anything else other than the famous killer and immediate gore gratification but thankfully Evil Dead decided instead to balance respect for the classic with a new vision. Often its hard to know why a remake was made at all other than to capitalize on a known horror villain and make a few bucks of course but Evil Dead is unique in the sea of remakes it earns the right to exist. »

Murderous Freedom for One Night a Year in The Purge Trailer

4 April 2013 12:28 PM, PDT

The Purge hits theaters this May. With studly horror contributors Ethan Hawke and Jason Blum once more joining forces you can count on a chiller. If you have your doubts just take a gander at this new trailer. Dont expect something as supernaturally dark as Sinister from The Purge. Or Paranormal Activity or Sinister for that matter as this film looks to capitalize on the primordial elements of human nature rather than the unexplainable powers that (may or may not) invade our universe. »

Sick Boy (2013) Review

3 April 2013 3:22 PM, PDT

Sick Boy proves that low budget horror doesnt have to be lifeless. The ill little booger that Lucy begins babysitting proves that nothing is as it seems and kids can be every bit as dangerous as adults. I really enjoyed Sick Boy. Flawed as it may be it thrives as an independent feature and leaves me eager to see more work from Cunningham. This is a guy who understands mystery and knows that simplicities can be as successful as their allowed to be. Put in the work to craft a quality story and a bare bones concept can transform into a meaty production worthy of note. »

Army of Darkness keeps the story of Ash alive and its just as rewarding as one could expect. Weve already recounted the top six scenes from the first two Evil Dead films. Today we bring you a look at the finest moments in the third part of this ongoing tale. Army of Darkness is a period piece loaded with gratifying action sequences and lots of laughs. Its intentionally hokey super far over the top and balls to the wall mayhem right from the introduction straight through the climax of the picture. »

Lord of Darkness has Hungry Cannibals

3 April 2013 11:40 AM, PDT

Originally entitled Sawney Flesh of Man for its British debut Lionsgate changed the title for the American release to Lord of Darkness likely because many in the States are not familiar with the Sawney cannibal legend. Reviews in Britain were mixed but they agreed that the horror was wellexecuted. Were optimistic it will provide a good scare as well as a new and rather intriguing storyline. »

Hemlock Grove set to Have Grisly Creature Effects Check out the Latest Clip

3 April 2013 10:18 AM, PDT

The official tagline of Hemlock Grove is the monster is within. This could have meant any number of things and probably still does but after viewing the most recent clip it seems clear that at a minimum horror fans can expect graphic depictions of these internal monsters overcoming their external constraints. On the whole the series still looks to be a balance between Hostel (2005) and the HBO series True Blood personified in Nathan Barr as the choice for musical score composer (whose bona fides include both productions). »

After he experiences strange symptoms and hallucinations in class Norman blacks out and is hospitalized for further examination and testing. Meanwhile Dylan attempts to bond with Norman and starts a new job. Emma continues her research into the dark past of the town and motel raising the question of whether she or Norman is more obsessed with the backstory of what theyve found. Finally the police investigation into Keith Summers disappearance leads to a search of the Bates Motel. The discovery of possibly incriminating evidence thus drives Norma and Deputy Shelby closer together. Pros Off the bat Id like to start by saying that to my great shock this is handsdown the best episode of the series so far. »
