Ratings: Hannibal Gives NBC Thursday a Little Extra Bite, Community Dips to New Low
5 April 2013 8:26 AM, PDT
NBC’s Hannibal welcomed 4.3 million total viewers to the dinner table in its Thursday premiere, while netting a 1.6 rating — so, about smack dab in the middle between Do No Harm and Awake.
That said, the Bryan Fuller drama’s demo delivery marks a 60 percent improvement on NBC’s average in the time slot this season and its best Thursday-at-10 performance in more than a year (since March 15, 2012).
For comparison’s sake, NBC’s most recent scripted offerings in Thursday’s closer spot:
* Law & Order: Svu repeat: 4 million total viewers/1.0 demo rating
* Do No Harm premiere(/penultimate episode): 3.1 mil/0.9

Glee Casting News: Katey Sagal Is Artie's Mom!
5 April 2013 3:37 AM, PDT
Kevin’s McHale’s wish is Ryan Murphy’s command.
Last summer at Comic-Con, McHale floated the idea of Katey Sagal playing his never-before-seen mother on Glee, and — voilà — Murphy announced late Thursday that the Sons of Anarchy anti-heroine has landed that very role.
“So thrilled to announce my friend Katey Sagal is playing Artie’s mom on Glee,” Murphy wrote on Twitter. “There is nothing this woman can’t do!”

Did NBC's Hannibal Whet Your Appetite?
4 April 2013 8:00 PM, PDT
Is Hannibal to your taste?
NBC’s Silence of the Lambs prequel made its bloody debut Thursday at 10/9c. Just like in the Thomas Harris novels, the titular character is a genius psychologist who also happens to be a cannibalistic serial killer – except no one knows that yet.
Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale) plays Hannibal as an aesthete, an educated man who takes great pride in his colorful attire, office furnishings and, uh, refined palate. He’s brought into the action when the FBI recruits the services of Will Graham (Hugh Dancy, The Big C), a brilliant, odd FBI profiler who »

American Idol Top 7 Results Recap: The Rock Week Horror Picture Show
4 April 2013 6:05 PM, PDT
I know there’ve been a lot of criticisms of American Idol Season 12, but none of its results shows up till now have driven me into a homicidal rage. (Okay, Breanna Steer not cracking the Top 10 came pretty close, but we haven’t had a moment where I’ve been on the brink of spouting “That’S It! I’M Done With This Show 4Eva!” nonsense.)
And I guess that’s why I approached Top 7 Results Night with a mixture of paranoia and dread. Okay, yeah, Lazaro Arbos got saddled with the most ominous lyric from the group performance of »

A nascent Sin City is open for business (and badness) again as CBS’ Vegas returns from a six-week hiatus to put down stakes in a new Fridays-at-9 time slot.
For those needing a refresher: Inspired by the true story of Ralph Lamb (played by Dennis Quaid), the freshman drama follows the fourth-generation rancher as he serves as Las Vegas’ sheriff in the 1960s, just as the town is evolving into a gambling mecca and has its fortunes dictated by crime boss Vincent Savino (Michael Chiklis).
On the occasion of the show’s return, TVLine invited Jason O’Mara, who plays »

Melissa McBride Clears Up Walking Dead Contract Mystery, Declares: 'I Am a Series Regular'
4 April 2013 2:01 PM, PDT
Wednesday’s news that Walking Dead has upgraded a trio of actors to series regular ahead of Season 4 did not go over well with Melissa McBride fans.
Supporters of the actress — who has played Carol since Season 1 — took to TVLine’s comments section to demand that AMC finally do the right thing and make her a regular as well.
There’s just one problem: McBride is, and has been, a regular — a fact she confirmed herself on Twitter Wednesday. Responding to the “awesome outpouring” of support following news of Chad L. Coleman, Sonequa Martin-Green and Emily Kinney’s promotions, McBride maintained, »

American Idol's Ratings Woes: 8 Common-Sense Ways to Salvage Season 12
4 April 2013 11:04 AM, PDT
American Idol‘s Season 12 ratings continue to slip like a baby giraffe on an ice rink: Wednesday night’s Top 7 performance show drew 11.5 million viewers and a 3.0 rating (ticking down to an all-time Wednesday low).
Sure, you can blame reality-singing overload: With NBC’s The Voice now offering two cycles per year and The X Factor holding down the fort at Fox during Idol‘s off season, you’d expect audience attrition for The House That Kelly Clarkson Built, especially in its twelfth season.

4 April 2013 9:04 AM, PDT
ABC’s Modern Family enjoyed a surge this Wednesday, rising 16 and 28 percent week-to-week to deliver 10.6 million total viewers and a night-dominating 4.1 demo rating — its best numbers since Jan. 23.
Leading out of that, the series launch of How to Live With Your Parents (for the rest of Your Life) did 8.4 mil and a 2.9, drawing more viewers and the same demo as Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23‘s own apres-Family debut but demonstrating greater retention (79 and 71 percent) than both the Beek (68 and 71 percent) and The Neighbors‘ fall sneak peek (64 and 60 percent).

Once Upon a Time Spin-Off Scoop: Queen of Hearts Cora May Reign Alongside Red Queen
4 April 2013 8:38 AM, PDT
ABC’s Wonderland-based Once Upon a Time spin-off — if it gets ordered to series — may hold a pair of queens in its hand.
On the heels of British beauty Emma Rigby (the UK’s Hollyoaks, inset) being cast as the Red Queen in the four-scene “presentation” [see glossary], TVLine has learned that Barbara Hershey‘s Cora might also serve as a royal pain – if ABC picks up the limited series to bridge Once’s winter 2013-14 hiatus. (Official talks with Hershey likely won’t take place unless the pilot moves forward.)
