Vikings Gets A Second Season!

Who would have imagined that the History Channel would have a scripted a show rated in the top five shows on TV? Obviously, I have been out of the loop. I have seen commercials for the show Vikings, but I figured it would be a flash in the pan and then I would be out of luck. Well, it looks like Vikings isn’t getting Firefly’d after all.

It has been announced by Variety that the show is being picked up for a second season consisting of 10 episodes. Here is what the brass at Thc had to say about the show:

Vikings is a win-win for us,” said History’s exec veep of development and programming Dirk Hoogstra. “As our first scripted series, Vikings has paid off in a big way with critical acclaim, strong ratings and a passionate, loyal fan base. It came out of the gate strong and has stayed on top, »

DiCaprio and Hanks Developing HBO Movie about Mikhail Gorbachev

Leonardo DiCaprio is joining forces with the legendary Tom Hanks to develop an HBO movie based on former Soviet Union president Mikhail Gorbachev

Gorbachev was the president of the Soviet Union from 1988 until the union’s dissolution in 1991. He ushered democracy into the Soviet block by introducing glasnost and perestroika and helped end the Cold War. According to the report, the film will focus on the dissolution of the Ussr through the eyes of the Soviet leader.

The script for the movie was written former Hell On Wheels showrunner John Shiban. Both Gorbachev and his long-time aide Pavel Palazhchenko will serve as consultants on the film project. There's some serious talent behind this film, and they got an awesome network backing it up, so I'm sure it will turn out great.

This will be the first project that DiCaprio and Hanks have collaborated on since they made Steven Spielberg's »

Cool Designer Star Wars Watches

Here's a couple of awesome Star Wars designer watches. One is a Luke Skywalker themed X-Wing design, and the other represents Darth Vader and the Dark Side. They are available for purchase online over at Think Geek for $200.

As we grow older, our desire for fandom-related products evolves. When we were young Star Wars fans, we loved plastic and rubber watches that could be flashed like nerdy gang signs on the elementary school playground. We still want to flash our geek cred, but we’ve outgrown cheap accessories. We want something built to last as long as our love for Star Wars.

Great Opening Scene from The Place Beyond The Pines

Check out this wonderfully shot opening tracking scene from director Derek Cianfrance's upcoming drama The Place Beyond the Pines, which stars Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper. I love a good tracking shot, and this one features the main character in his trailer and then follows him through the carnival that he works at as he proceeds right into his crazy motorcycle stunt. I've also posted a little commentary video on the film as well.

The Place Beyond the Pines revolves around "a professional motorcycle rider (Gosling) who turns to bank robberies to support his newborn son, but when he crosses paths with a rookie police officer (Cooper) their violent confrontation spirals into a tense generational feud." It's also been described as "a rich dramatic thriller, tracing the intersecting lives of fathers and sons, cops and robbers, heroes and villains."

It has a great supporting cast that includes Greta Gerwig, »

Amazing Joker and Loki Character Mashup!

I would have never thought of this combo, but now that I have seen this picture I need to see the full comic. If it existed, I would totally buy it. It totally would have fit into the Amalgam comics that came out in the late 1990’s. This piece comes from artist Marco D’Alfonso.  Enjoy!

Until next time…

Warner Bros. has released yet another poster for Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby which features Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire taking a ride. If you who haven't seen the latest trailer yet, make sure to check it out here.

The fantastic looking adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel also stars Carey Mulligan, Joel EdgertonIsla FisherElizabeth DebickiJason ClarkeAmitabh Bachchan, and Jack Thompson.

The Great Gatsby follows would-be writer Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz, bootleg kings, and sky-rocketing stocks. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy (Carey Mulligan), and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton). The Evil Dead Remake Was Insanely Awesome!

First of all, I'm a huge fan Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell's Evil Dead franchise. Evil Dead was the first real horror movie I saw when I was a kid, and from that moment on, I was hooked on the horror genre. Ever since Evil Dead I've enjoyed watching horror films both good, bad, and so bad they're good. I was a little pissed off when I heard that Evil Dead was going to get remade. I hate remakes; I'm not a big fan of the unoriginality of Hollywood these days. But the more I heard about the film, the more that Raimi talked about the reasons he wanted it remade, the more that shell of remake hatred started to break down. Raimi's original vision for The Evil Dead was a hardcore horror story. I think his original movie delivers that, but there's still a lot of unintentional cheesy campiness, »

Trailer for a New Western Called Dead Man's Burden

If you've been reading the site for awhile then you know I'm a sucker for westerns. I love the genre! Unfortunately, Hollywood doesn't make many of them these days because they aren't significant money makers. Disney is taking a big gamble with The Lone Ranger, and I hope it pays off for them. While we wait for that mega budget movie to come out, we have a good looking indie western that's been made called Dead Man's Burden. The movie comes from Kelly Reichardt (Meek’s Cutoff) and it looks like it could be worth checking out. Here's the synopsis...

The year is 1870, and a fragmented America still strains to pick up the pieces from a savage Civil War. Martha (Clare Bowen) and her husband Heck (David Call) are living on a homestead on the rural New Mexico frontier, struggling to make ends meet. When a mining company expresses interest in buying their land, »

Evil Dead - New UK TV Spot - Go Watch this Movie!

Fede Alvarez's Evil Dead remake is one of the most insane horror movies I've ever seen. I absolutely loved it! If you haven't seen this movie yet, go watch it now! You honestly have no idea how bloody, gory, and scary it is until you see it for yourself. Evil Dead is so crazy it will blow your mind. Some poor girl sitting next to me in the theater was literally crying. It was amazing. If you like horror movies, this is a must watch! Nothing can prepare you for what this movie has to offer.

Anyway, here's a new one minute TV spot from the UK for you to watch! The movie opens up this weekend in the Us, and it hits the UK on April 18th. Check out the spot and make sure to watch the bloody madness for yourself!

Watch the First Episode of Hannibal Now

For those of you who didn't get a chance to watch NBC's new serial killer thriller Hannibal, the network has released it online for all to see! The episode is called "Aperitif," and it's a great start to what looks to be a very promising series.

In this new drama from Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Heroes), based on the characters from Thomas Harris' classic novels, we see where this incredible story began. Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) is a gifted criminal profiler who is on the hunt for a serial killer with the FBI. Graham's unique way of thinking gives him the astonishing ability to empathize with anyone - even psychopaths. He seems to know what makes them tick. But when the mind of the twisted killer he's pursuing is too complicated for even Will to comprehend, he enlists the help of Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen), one of the »

Kellan Lutz Set To Play Title Role In Hercules 3D!

According to THR, director Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger) has chosen Twilight star Kellan Lutz to play Hercules in his upcoming film Hercules 3D

Here is the thing; I, in no way, will ever hate on the people who starred in the Twilight films. They made what they made, they got their money, and now they are off. Like most of the cast, Lutz is looking to put as many films as possible between him and his vampire days.

Here is what Harlin had to say about choosing Lutz for the role:

It looks like Hercules 3D is going to go head to head with the Brett Ratner/Dwayne Johnson movie Hercules: The Thracian Wars which also comes out in 2014. The only downfall to this is that The Rat always seems to make a good amount of money with his movies. Hopefully, if Hercules 3D wants any chance of survival, »

Kevin Feige on Guardians Of The Galaxy and Doctor Strange

5 April 2013 6:00 PM, PDT

Marvel President Kevin Feige is constantly being asked questions about the Marvel cinematic universe, and that's because we all want to know what they are planning to do next! There are so many Marvel characters to choose from! But one that I'm most excited about seeing get made is Dr. Strange. I thought for sure they would have done that movie before they did a movie like Ant-Man

During a recent Q&A session with Best Movie Feige talked a little bit about Dr. Strange and the third phase of Marvel's movie plan. But first, he discusses Guardians of the Galaxy, and why they decided to run with. This movie is sure to be a huge hit among fans and audiences.

It was long time that we wanted to bring in a movie an adventure set entirely in space. We immediately liked the idea of making a movie based on »

The Rocketeer: Riddle Saves the Day in this Betty Page Cosplay

5 April 2013 5:00 PM, PDT

For fans of The Rocketeer, it seems the character has been getting a lot more love these past few years. As a result, we get this wonderful cosplay by Riddle, which owes its roots to the Bettie Page version (drawn by Darwyn Cooke for Idw's tribute series). The photo itself was taken by Dru Phillips, with makeup and hair by Thomas Gaddis & Jaiden Gabbana, respectively. A lot of work went into this costume, especially the rocket pack, which you can't see here but is based on the version from the comics. As a big fan of the property and the time period in general, I eat up things like this.

The print will be available at the upcoming Planet Comic Con Show in Kansas City and will be limited to 50 copies. In addition to getting a fantastic print for your wall all the proceeds go towards fighting Hairy Cell Leukemia, »

Dexter Season 8 Teaser Trailer - The Full Picture

5 April 2013 4:15 PM, PDT

It looks like the last season of Dexter is upon us, and I can't wait to see how it all ends! The latest teaser trailer for the eighth season features a voice over from Michael C. Hall as the title character, and it gives us a little insight into what is going on in Dexter's mind.

I've always been a very neat monster but lately the truth has begun to spill, and too many people have seen the full picture. I'm losing control. And the only thing I know for sure is that it isn't going to be pretty.

I have no doubt the story is going to escalate into an incredible climax that is either going to make fans very happy, or disappoint the hell out of them.

Dexter returns Sunday, June 30 on Showtime, and it might just be the beginning of the end.

Concept Art of Billy Crudup as Ang Lee's Hulk

5 April 2013 3:25 PM, PDT

Many of you may not know this, but director Ang Lee originally wanted Billy Crudup to play Bruce Banner in his Hulk movie. He was attached to the project but ended up dropping out for some reason. He was later replaced by Eric Bana who actually ended up being great in the role.

Concept artist Benton Jew did some character designs for Crudup's Hulk before he dropped out. It actually ended up looking pretty silly--then again, he never really got a chance to dive into it.

The artist also released some concept art for another Hulk movie that was being developed in 1997, before Lee came on as a director. It was being produced by Avi Arad (Spider-Man) and Gale Anne Hurd (The Walking Dead). Joe Johnston (Captain America) was going to direct but dropped out and ended up being replaced by Hurd's husband, Jonathan Hensleigh, (who had never directed a »

First Look at Chris Evans and More in Snowpiercer

5 April 2013 3:00 PM, PDT

I'm actually a little surprised that we haven't seen any footage from Bong Joon-ho‘s crazy looking, post-apocalyptic sci-fi film Snowpiercer. It's supposed to be released sometime this summer, so maybe in the next month or so we'll see something. In the meantime, here's a collection of promotional character photos from the film giving us our first look at Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, John HurtJamie Bell, Ewan Bremner, Ed Harris, and more.  Here's the synopsis...

Snowpiercer is set in a future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an Ice Age kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system evolves on the train but a revolution brews.

The movie also stars Alison Pill, Octavia Spencer, and Song Kang-ho. This looks like it »

Hilarious Comedy Short - The Elaborate End Of Robert Ebb

5 April 2013 2:35 PM, PDT

Here's a must watch comedy short film called The Elaborate End of Robert Ebb. It follows a character named Robert who dresses up in a monster costume as a prank. Of course, the prank backfires on him when he gets stuck in the suit, and the whole village bands together to hunt him down. The film was directed by Clement Bolla, Fx Goby, and Matthieu Landour. I thought it was amazingly entertaining, and I think you'll all enjoy it so check it out!

The Amazing Spider-man 2- Leaked Details on Foxx’s Electro Suit

5 April 2013 2:10 PM, PDT

I didn’t think I would be, but I am a huge fan of Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man. I am looking forward to what he is going to do with the sequel. With that being said, I am a self-proclaimed spoiler junkie. I just can’t help myself. It is like when you see someone getting pulled over on the side of the road, you have to almost physically restrain yourself from looking. Whenever I see the word spoiler my Pavlovian reaction is to see what is going on.

This here really isn’t A Spoiler, it is more of a 'eh, spoiler.' Nothing major is revealed here, but if you have any adverse reactions to spoilers, then save yourself the possibility of an allergic reaction and stop reading. For the rest of you here are a few tweets from what we can only assume to be »

Christopher Eccleston Officially Out of Doctor Who 50th Anniversary

5 April 2013 1:45 PM, PDT

He's said it before, and today he's saying it yet again. Christopher Eccleston will not appear in person for any part of the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special. This news comes on the tails of the announcement that former 10th doctor David Tennant will be making his return alongside his much loved companion Rose Tyler (Billie Piper). A BBC spokesperson released the following statement to The Independent on the matter.

Chris met with Steven Moffat a couple of times to talk about Steven's plans for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary episode. After careful thought, Chris decided not to be in the episode. He wishes the team all the best.

It's been reported on fan sites like Bad Wilf  that Eccleston vowed never to return after his falling out with the management, so what more can we expect? As much as I love his portrayal of The Doctor, I'm kind of glad this isn't happening. »
