Study Finds that Xbox Gamers are Better in Bed Than Nintendo and Sony Players...Wait, What?

5 April 2013 1:13 PM, PDT

Well folks, this is what it's all come down to.  Forget prettier graphics and game exclusives, the real console war is about which set of gamers are better in the sack.  A recent poll conducted during research into the effect of playing games on relationships has determined (apparently) that those who play Xbox are better lovers than Sony, Nintendo, and PC gamers...

It's amazing what research and studies can find these days.  VoucherCodesPro (who?) is apparently doing research into the effect playing video games have on relationships, and conducted a poll over in the UK that dealt specifically with sexual prowess.  They began by determining which console their partners used to play games with, and then asked ‘How would you rate your partner in the bedroom?’

The results of course ranged from excellent to below average.  What they discovered was that, when the results were broken down, Xbox gamers were »

First Full Trailer for Carrie Gives it all Away

5 April 2013 6:36 AM, PDT

The first full-length theatrical trailer for the upcoming Carrie remake has made its way online and gives us our best look at the film so far.  In fact, it may provide too much information, as the trailer seems to give just about everything away.  It still looks fairly decent though.

If you've never read the Stephen King book, Carrie, nor (for some inexplicable reason) seen the original film of the same name, then this trailer will give you about all the information you could ever want on the story.  Seriously, there's no air of mystery here and it doesn't look like there are going to be any surprises when you check out the film in theaters.  That's not entirely a bad thing, however.  Let's watch the trailer and we'll talk after:

What this trailer does well, is show us Kimberly Pierce's (the director) take on the classic film.  Rather than »

The Always Online Issue is About Choice, Not Just Connectivity

5 April 2013 3:33 AM, PDT

Rumors about Microsoft making their next games console ‘always-online’ are nothing new, but the latest report, coming yesterday, ignited a firestorm.  After the report, a top Xbox official took to his twitter account to defend always-online technology in a very unprofessional manner, that seems to show how out of touch he is with the real issue.  It’s not about connectivity at all, it’s about user choice.

The report we’re talking about came from Kotaku, who’s source claims that unless something has changed within the last couple weeks, Microsoft is still planning on making their console always online.  More than that, according to the report, you have to be connected to the internet, just to Start a game, and keep playing it.  And if your connection drops, you’ve got three minutes before the console suspends the game and is unable to play it.  It this turns »

Evil Dead Is All Gore And No Humor

5 April 2013 12:09 AM, PDT

The day Sam Raimi fans have been either anticipating or dreading for 30 years is upon us. The remake of Evil Dead has taken over theaters. Most enthusiasts of the original horror trilogy wanted another sequel. That's definitely not what we get in this gore fest.

Don't expect dancing decapitated corpses, funny one-liners, and other slapstick elements found in Army of Darkness. You'll be gravely disappointed. What we get here is full-on blood and guts with a dash of more blood and guts.

There are no college kids heading up to the woods to party for the weekend this time around. Setting a serious tone from the very beginning of the film, a group of old friends come together to help one of their own kick a drug habit. The plan is to keep her locked up and restrained in the family cabin until the girl is fully detoxed. She's relapsed »

Roger Ebert: A Tribute and Look Back

4 April 2013 2:11 PM, PDT

A generation of film fans grew up knowing the famous thumb of Roger Ebert, the longtime film critic and author. Sadly, he has now passed away. Ebert co-hosted the popular TV program At the Movies and wrote numerous books about movies. He was the first film critic to win the Pulitzer Prize for distinguished criticism. His lost his long battle with cancer at age 70.

Roger Ebert was one of the wittiest and most prolific movie critics ever. For over 40 years, he covered the film industry with his well-written and often amusing reviews. Whether you agreed with his opinions or not, you can’t deny his fun and breezy style of writing. He had worked for the Chicago Sun-Times since 1967. He won a Pulitzer for his film criticism and was also the first critic to get a star on the Hollywood walk of fame.

In 1975, he and fellow movie critic Gene Siskel »

4 April 2013 1:03 PM, PDT

A fourth villain is being added to Captain America: the Winter Soldier in the form of Batroc the Leaper, who will be played by an Ultimate Fighting Champion.

Captain America is certainly going to be kept busy next year when his sequel film Captain America: the Winter Soldier comes out. Aside from facing the eponymous ‘Winter Soldier’, Aka Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Arnim Zola (Played once again by Toby Jones) and Frank Grillo as Crossbones, he’ll have to deal with yet another foe. Ufc Champion Georges St-Pierre will be playing the French, kick-boxing bad guy Batroc. St-Pierre will make a large, formidable threat to Chris Evan’s Captain America. St-Pierre is actually the second Mma fighter cast recently in a Marvel Studios film. Former WWE superstar Dave Bautista has been cast as Drax in James Gunn’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy. Legendary Film Critic Roger Ebert Passes Away

4 April 2013 12:14 PM, PDT

After a long bout with cancer, the legendary and iconic movie critic, Roger Ebert, has passed away at the age of 70.  The man saw his share of celebrity and controversy in his years, but one thing's for sure: he was passionate about film and the arts.

Very sad news today, as we have learned that Roger Ebert has passed away after a decade long battle with cancer.  The man was a pioneer for film critics and movie enthusiasts everywhere in a career that has spanned nearly 5 decades and featured many accomplishments.  He was the first journalist Ever to win a pulitzer for film criticism and his long running TV show made him a celebrity in his own right.

Even after losing his jaw (as well as the ability to eat, speak, and drink) the man continued to write full time and be a 'voice' within the entertainment industry.  Though he »

Indie Beat: Director Corey Snyder Talks About his New Web Series Hitting Rock Bottom

4 April 2013 9:50 AM, PDT

For our latest Indie Beat profile, we talk with director/cinematographer Corey Snyder, who has created and produced a new docu-drama web series called Hitting Rock Bottom, which debuts on April 12 on Youtube and other online venues.

Rob:    Tell us what Hitting Rock Bottom is about.

Corey: Hitting Rock Bottom is a documentary style drama about people who somehow got caught up in a life of drugs and crime and their lives totally fell apart until they hit rock bottom, and then had to fight their way back up from the bottom. This show is as much about the recovery as it is about the fall. It’s an intense show but it’s also a hopeful one. Every episode will be based on a true story.

Rob:   How did you come up with the idea for this show?

Corey: Well, I’m a recovering alcohol and drug user. I’m five years clean. »

Want More Heartache? Star Wars 1313 was Going to be About Boba Fett

4 April 2013 9:42 AM, PDT

Yesterday's news about Disney closing down LucasArts and putting an end to all the current Star Wars projects hit some fans (like myself) pretty hard.  With Star Wars 1313 now shut down, some more details on the project have begun leaking out, which might make the news even harder.  Apparently it was going to focus on the galaxy's number one bounty hunter: Boba Fett

We knew that Star Wars 1313 would take gamers to the seedy underworld of Coruscant and present a darker and more 'adult' take on the galaxy far, far away, which led many to speculate that the game could in fact feature the notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett.  Turns out they were right!  New concept art for the game that has leaked online (courtesy of Kotaku) has shown that Fett was to be the focus of the game.

I don't know about you, but this has me even more bummed out. »

G.I. Joe: Retaliation Entertains But Lacks Zest

3 April 2013 9:34 PM, PDT

There were many fans upset by Stephen Sommers' first live-action entry in the G.I. Joe series. Some complained about the fact that the "Real American Hero" tagline was removed. Others felt the actors chosen for the parts were miscast. A few felt the movie relied on gadgets and CGI too much. Whatever the reasons were, director John M. Chu felt the need to make it up to the disappointed masses with G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

I've never been a big fan of G.I. Joe. As a child, I would play with the original dolls which had the pull string on his back, poseable arms and legs, and real hair with a beard. Every version of the toy looked the same except that they'd give him a different uniform and hair color.

When the G.I. Joe boom hit in the 1980s, I really wasn't too interested in army men with fancy weaponry. »

First Catching Fire Footage and Trailer Announcement

3 April 2013 1:25 PM, PDT

Excited for Catching Fire? Here's a quick first look at the upcoming film and an announcement when we will be able to see the trailer.

Catching Fire is one of 2013's most anticipated films and therefore there is a lot of excitement surrounding any bit of news that is released, no matter how small. Today MTV released the following promo clip which features our first look at actual footage of the upcoming Hunger Games sequel.

Get More: 2013 MTV Movie Awards, Latest Movie News, Jennifer Lawrence, Elizabeth Banks

While the clip is indeed a "small" glimpse at the new film, more exciting for fans is the announcement that the film's trailer will be premiered at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards. If your mouth is watering, you don't have long to wait. The MTV Movie Awards are less than two weeks away. April 14th, 2013 at 9/8C to be exact. The actual film will »

Bioshock Infinite Review: Solid but not Quite Revolutionary

3 April 2013 1:19 PM, PDT

The highly anticipated Bioshock Infinite hit stores finally last week to generally positive reviews.  Does the game live up to the hype as well as the legacy of its predecessor?  It's definitely worth playing through, but it's not quite as revolutionary as most reviews would suggest.  Come inside to check out our thoughts on Irrational Games' latest.

By now, you’ve probably read or at least glanced at an article that raved about Bioshock Infinite.  It’s been out for a week, and the web has been buzzing with positive reviews for this latest offering by game designer Ken Levine.  Nearly every review I’ve read has been singing the praises of the game’s story, political messages, setting, and gameplay.  So it might come as a surprise to you when I say that Bioshock Infinite didn’t win me over.

In fact, after a single playthrough on hard »

Disney Shuts Down LucasArts; Cancels All Projects

3 April 2013 10:39 AM, PDT

Some incredibly sad news today, word has come down that Disney has shut down LucasArts, the gaming arm of Lucasfilm (aka all things Star Wars) and has cancelled all current projects, including the amazing looking Star Wars 1313 and First Assault.  Details inside.

Rumors started swirling about this possibility a while ago, when Disney took over Lucasfilm several months ago.  Then just last month we were hearing word that several people within LucasArts had been let go and that their current projects were on hold.  Now, the official word has come down (in a statement made to GameInformer) that Disney has completely shut down LucasArts.

First and foremost, our condolences go to those who lost their jobs.  The game development community is never an easy one to find employment in, and it's never good for anyone to lose their source of income.  Fans will be more saddened to hear that upcoming »

Their Best Scene: The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey

3 April 2013 7:07 AM, PDT

Peter Jackson is known for crafting incredible characters, and scenes that make you stop and go, “wow”.  It’s a trait that’s made him uniquely suited to adapting J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic tales involved in Middle-Earth.  With The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey recently hitting blu-ray I felt this was a good time to delve into the film and add it to my series on their best scenes.

The scene I’ve picked from The Hobbit isn’t one of the many action intensive scenes, or even one that utilizes some of the stunning VFX featured throughout the film.  Instead, I’ve picked a quieter moment in the film, between just a couple of people, one of whom is only in the film for a few minutes total.  While it only has one of the main characters, it’s a scene that I feel encompasses the overall theme of the entire series, »

New Trailers for Thief and The Last of Us

2 April 2013 1:23 PM, PDT

A couple of new trailers have released today for a pair of highly anticipated games.  One gives our first actual look at the new game coming to PC and the PS4, while the other is an extended red band trailer that helps show why games can still be a powerful storytelling device.

I'm going to start this off with some Last of Us, not because I think the Thief trailer is any less important, but simply because this one is so amazing.  Seriously, this is one of the best trailers for a game I've seen, and it aptly showcases the ability of video games to tell a compelling story and provide characters you can give a damn about:

Yeah, as if I wasn't already excited enough for this game, Naughty Dog had to go and release another bad ass trailer for it, that makes this wait even harder.  Thanks.  Here's »

Rockstar Officially Reveals Grand Theft Auto V Box Art

2 April 2013 12:29 PM, PDT

Over the last few days, Rockstar has been teasing the reveal of the game's box art through a wall sized mural painting, but they've now released the full thing for fans to look at.  Unsurprisingly, it looks very similar to all of the previous GTA games so far.  Come inside to have a look for yourself.

If you were expecting something radically different for the GTA V box art, than what the company has done for the franchise in the past, you might be just a little disappointed.  It's not that the artwork for this game is bad, by any means, it's just about what you'd expect and falls in line directly with all the previous iterations of the franchise.  I mean, it's got guns, a hot chick, vehicles and badasses all mixed together...yep, sounds like GTA!

Still, it's exciting to see marketing finally start ramping up for this game, »

Disney/Pixar's Finding Dory Gets a Release Date

2 April 2013 12:11 PM, PDT

The sequel to Disney and Pixar's incredible Finding Nemo (which itself saw a 3D re-release a few months ago) will focus this time on Dory, the loveable and forgetful blue tang fish played by ellen DeGeneres.  Today, Disney and Ellen revealed new details on the animated feature as well as when fans can see it in theaters.

As far as Pixar films go, I would have to say that Finding Nemo ranks number two on my list (right behind the first Toy Story), so when we heard a sequel was in the works, I was fairly excited, though I wasn't exactly sure how they'd pull it off.  Fortunately today, Disney and Ellen have pulled the veil back a little to reveal more about the film, Finding Dory, as well as announce it'll be in theaters on November 25, 2015.  We've still got some waiting to do, but at least we've got something »

The Avengers 2 to Shoot in the UK Early 2014

2 April 2013 7:45 AM, PDT

Marvel has a pretty good working relationship with the people across the pond as they've shot Thor: The Dark World, and are prepping to film Guardians of the Galaxy in the UK as well.  Now it looks like they're keeping that trend going and are planning to film (at least in part) The Avengers sequel over there too.

Screen Daily got the scoop on this, saying that Marvel has decided to extend their collaboration with the Pinewood-Shepperton studio lot, when The Avengers 2 begins filming sometime in early 2014.  This makes sense really, if a filming experience is good somewhere, it's never a bad idea to keep coming back there (just look at Peter Jackson and New Zealand).  Then you already have great working relationships with the people there and generally know how things are going to get along.

Chances are, however, the film won't be shot entirely over in the UK. »
