The Sandlot Turns 20 Year Old! Check Out The Team Then And Now
47 minutes ago
Last week we shared our list of the 10 greatest baseball movies of the ’90s. And at the top of that list was The Sandlot. Why? Because it is not only the greatest baseball movies of the ’90s, but one of the best achievements in cinema history (Imho). How the Academy managed to overlook this masterpiece is totally beyond us.
It’s hard to believe that it’s been 20 years (today!) since we first watched Scotty Smalls on his quest to rescue his dad’s prized Babe Ruth-autographed baseball from the clutches of The Beast. It seems like the phrase “You’re killing me, Smalls!” has been around forever! What kind of people would we be today without growing up with Squints, Ham, Benny The Jet, Yeah-Yeah and the rest of the crew? Did hot lifeguard Wendy Peffercorn give us unreasonable expectations about love/pools? These are heavy questions indeed. »

We’ve had a massive Don Draper-sized hole in our hearts since last June, and we can’t wait to see the drama, the one-liners, the hook-ups and the clothes in the coming episode. Sadly we’re up to the late sixties, the era of paisley, psychedelic-puke colors and (*shudder*) bell bottoms. Yes, we fear that the show miiiight not be quite as stylish as it used to be. Hersey, we know! But at least we have these »

According to TMZ, the actress is already 3 months in the process, which is pretty amazing when you see the super revealing dress she wore on The Tonight Show just a few weeks back. 4 April 2013 8:46 PM, PDT
Whether you’ll forever be in love with Nick Andopolis or Marshall Eriksen, or happen to think Rush has produced the greatest songs in musical history (next to the soundtracks to A Taste For Love and The Muppets), Jason Segel‘s increasingly diverse career path has something for everyone. And now, he’s expanding his resume once again.
Segel revealed he has written a series of three young adult novels, based on a script originally penned when he was 21 years old. The actor-screenwriter-occasional puppeteer was encouraged to speak about his book project by director Jonathan Demme, who hosted a Q&A following a screening of the 2008 film, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, at the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, New York on Thursday night. As Segel tells it, he sold the script for “super cheap” because he “didn’t know any better” back then. It ultimately gathered dust on the Hollywood »

4 April 2013 7:31 PM, PDT
Has Anne Hathaway been happy since winning her Academy Award? When does Kate Middleton say she’s having her baby? And Nicki Minaj: Movie Star? All this in today’s Last Lap.
Lena Headey might be a wealthy Lannister covered in gold on Game of Thrones, but in real life she is reportedly broke. In her divorce paperwork, Headey asserts that she has “less than $5 in her bank account” and that she and her ex-husband are arguing over a $46,000 tax refund from 2011 that Headey needs $6,000 from in which to live. [TMZ] Best Supporting Actress Anne Hathaway was seen buying self-help books about finding balance amid change and a book about the unappreciated and suicidal poet Sylvia Plath. R.I.P. Roger Ebert (1942-2013)
4 April 2013 1:02 PM, PDT
It’s a sad day for film buffs as legendary critic, Roger Ebert, has passed away at the age of 70. Only yesterday Ebert had announced that his cancer had returned and he would be taking time off to treat it. Ebert leaves behind a legacy that includes being touted as the “most powerful pundit in America”, not to mention his popular film criticism television series, Siskel & Ebert.
Ebert was born and raised in Urbana, Illinois, where his interest in film and in journalism merged at an early age. He attended the University of Chicago and in 1967 started professionally reviewing films for the Chicago Sun-Times. In 1975, he and Chicago Tribune film critic Gene Siskel started a local weekly film review show called Sneak Previews that would later become the nationally syndicated Siskel & Ebert:
In 2002, he was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer and in 2006 he had to undergo surgery to remove part of his jaw bone. »

Hannibal Lecter’s 10 Most Delectable Moments
4 April 2013 9:56 AM, PDT
He’s smart, suave, psychotic…and he’s back! Dr. Hannibal Lecter is returning to our screens tonight at 10 pm on NBC in Bryan Fuller‘s new drama, Hannibal.
Somehow, between face-biting and brain frying, we still manage to love Hannibal Lecter, or at least, we love to be absolutely terrified of him.
Brian Cox was the first actor to slink into the role in Michael Mann‘s brilliant 1986 thriller, Manhunter, and Sir Anthony Hopkins made the part legendary in The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal and the Manhunter remake, Red Dragon. (And French actor Gaspard Ulliel played the young Hannibal in a terrible movie with Samurai swords we don’t care to mention…) Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen will be the new guy serving up the delicious one liners and the dangerously seductive charm as the “good” Dr. Lecter in NBC’s Hannibal…and we can’t wait for more delectable Lecter moments. »

Her Pretty Woman-inspired outfit showed off what appears to be a galaxy of ink on her inner thigh. Or is it lower torso? We don’t know, we failed bio. In any event, the body art is causing some of her fans to question whether it’s for real, or if it’s just part of her bad girl Bling Ring attire. In any event, the cover is easily her all-time hottest, as the 22-year-old has certainly been pumping up the sexy factor in recent months. Is it because of that time airport security thought she was a small child? Yeah, there’s no way we’d make that mistake! »

This Week On Smash: Vagina In The Face!
4 April 2013 9:45 AM, PDT
Hello again Smash junkies! Did anyone ever change Jimmy’s diaper last week? Is Eileen a linebacker? Where do we go when we die? Sometimes we just don’t know all the answers. But I can answer some burning questions from this week’s Smash. Feast your eyes on these ten essentials that the homeless gypsy down the street told you would happen a week ago and you didn’t believe her…
And… 5, 6, 7, 8 – Go!
10. Jimmy and Karen wake up from a night of hooking up (which I’m assuming is the two of them feeling around in the dark under a blanket and giggling). Then Jimmy comes out to the kitchen wearing a hippie blanket.
9. The stage manager gives a lot of side glances.

First Dibs: Which Guy Is Ditching Lena Dunham’s Girls?
4 April 2013 6:44 AM, PDT
Which television actor is Madonna‘s teen daughter dating? Why is Jeremy Irons against gay marriage? Need yet another reason to watch the 2013 MTV Movie Awards on April 14? How about three? All this in today’s First Dibs.
The actor who plays Charlie on Girls, Christopher Abbott, is leaving the HBO series after reportedly fighting with Lena Dunham. Abbot’s camp denies this is the reason for his departure, citing a busy upcoming schedule, but either way it looks like Marnie is in for another rough season. [Hollywood Reporter] Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Leon is dating the teen actor who plays Finn Walden on Homeland, Timothee Chalamet. The two are both students at the Laguardia School For Performing Arts and probably dance on cafeteria tables together and sing about “Hot Lunch”. [Page Six] Actor Jeremy Irons spoke out against gay marriage on the grounds that it means that a father could marry his son for tax purposes. »

15 Must-See Movies Starring Real-Life Lovers! Gigli is Not One of Them.
4 April 2013 6:42 AM, PDT
We’re kind of loving the new indie smash, The Place Behind the Pines — the acting’s top shelf, blah, blah, but what’s really fab is that it stars super-steamy, real-life couple, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes. Which got us thinking…what are our favorite flicks starring off-screen lovebirds? The truth? It was a tough list to put together. Because, more often than not, actual lovers seem to have an awkward time reproducing their chemistry onscreen (Shanghai Surprise, anyone? Swing Shift? Maybe it’s just films with alliterative “S’” in their titles that suck). But sometimes it works. And when it does, it’s like lightening in a bottle. The palpable tension, the timing, that effortless romantic “thing” that can only come from a couple that’s actually madly in love — it can translate into an epic screen pairing! When done right, you almost feel like a voyeur sneaking »

Play Ball! The 10 Greatest Baseball Movies Of The ’90s
4 April 2013 6:00 AM, PDT
The ’90s gave us some pretty spectacular things, including the end of the Cold War, our little sister, Garth Brooks and email. These are all undoubtedly great things, but perhaps our favorite thing that the ’90s brought was a serious bumper crop of awesome baseball movies!
We don’t know why, but it seemed like we got taken out to the ball game extremely often when we ventured to the movie theater during the Clinton-Era. And all the best ones (Little Big League, Rookie Of The Year, Angels In The Outfield, we could go on) seemed to directly involve kids. This lead to some ill-advised attempts to actually play ball ourselves and join little league.
After we got struck out by a T-ball stand a bunch of times, we went back to our basement to appreciate these awesome movies about the sport instead of actually trying ourselves. It was much »
