Jeremy Piven, star of PBS' 'Mr. Selfridge,' takes the EW Personality Quiz

31 March 2013 10:09 AM, PDT

Jeremy Piven is returning to TV, but as a different kind of power player than Entourage’s Ari Gold. On PBS’ drama Masterpiece: Mr. Selfridge (tonight, 9 p.m.), he stars as Harry Selfridge, the real-life American businessman who dreamed big enough to become a London department-store magnate. Take inventory of Piven’s answers below in EW’s Personality Quiz.

What’s the first place you head to when you walk into a department store?

First department you pass is cosmetics thanks to Harry Selfridge — but I go straight to casual men’s department. Rag & Bone, Jon Varvatos and Hugo Boss have great stuff. »

'Orphan Black' series premiere react: Attack of the clone(s)

31 March 2013 9:28 AM, PDT

Judging by last night’s premiere, it’s a little confusing why the new Canadian series Orphan Black should be sandwiched between Doctor Who and Nerdist as part of BBC America’s Supernatural Saturdays. Most of the series opener served as a showcase for Tatiana Maslany, who played one character figuring out how to impersonate another. It felt a bit more like an identity swap dramedy than the sci-fi conspiracy thriller we were promised. But that’s forgivable, because we’re just getting started.

We didn’t waste any time getting to the moment that sets off the whole series. »

PopWatch Planner: 'Game of Thrones,' 'Mad Men' premiere, 'New Girl' features a special date, and 'Jurassic Park' returns to theaters

31 March 2013 6:00 AM, PDT

Early April is one of entertainment’s awkwardly quiet down times, in which the summer blockbusters aren’t out yet, television shows are winding down but not quite at their finales, and most new albums are awaiting a  release. But that doesn’t mean that your week has to be boring. You still have some great options. Unless, of course, you don’t think that the premiere of Game of Thrones, the return of New Kids on the Block, and  the re-release of Jurassic Park in 3-D are great …

Did Savannah Guthrie flip off Matt Lauer on the 'Today' show today? Video

29 March 2013 2:46 PM, PDT

This might be the last time Savannah Guthrie is ever allowed to wear gloves on camera.

On this morning’s Today, it looks like a gloved Guthrie flips off Matt Lauer after he made a crack about her never using a vacuum before.

Judge for yourself below. Roll the tape!

Guthrie, for her part, is insisting she did not give Lauer the finger.

Folks!! That was my Index finger! Photo evidence proving my innocence coming! #fingergate #Tgif— Savannah Guthrie (@SavannahGuthrie) March 29, 2013

Jim Carrey responds to Fox News: They 'will be remembered as nothing more than a giant culture fart'

29 March 2013 1:35 PM, PDT

We can guess who Bill O’Reilly will dub Pinhead of the Week.

Jim Carrey has released a statement against Fox News (he refers to it in his official statement as “Fux News”) after the network spent the past week attacking his Funny or Die video. In Carrey’s song, “Cold Dead Hand,” which already has racked up over 1.8 million views, the comedian takes on gun enthusiasts with lyrics such as, “The angels wouldn’t take him up to heaven like he planned, cause they couldn’t pry that gun from his cold dead hand.”

Along with the video, Carrey »

Nick Offerman, Jimmy Fallon, and Blake Shelton remix 'Ho Hey,' chicken-style -- Video

29 March 2013 8:56 AM, PDT

We know you all have heard ”Ho Hey” by The Lumineers a million times, but trust us this will make you chuckle.

Last night on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Blake Shelton, Nick Offerman, and Fallon all dressed up as chickens (The Chickeneers) and clucked their way through the song.

We can’t help but think Ron Swanson would not approve of dressing as a thing he loves to eat, but we’ll let it pass.

The song ended with the message ”Happy Easter from Late Night!” Watch the whole thing here:

Kirsten Dunst says kissing Brad Pitt was 'disgusting'

28 March 2013 11:51 AM, PDT

Kirsten Dunst was only 11 when she took a role in Interview with the Vampire opposite Tom Cruise (Sexiest Man Alive, ’90) and Brad Pitt (Sexiest Man Alive, ’95). Playing an immortal child-vampire with an eerie maturity, Dunst actually got to kiss Pitt during filming. You would have thought that this would have made her feel like the luckiest little girl in the whole gosh darn world. But in an interview with Bullett magazine, Dunst reveals that kiss was “just a peck,” and it wasn’t even a particularly memorable peck. “Everyone at the time was like, ‘You’re so lucky you kissed Brad Pitt, »

Kissing covers: Time magazine takes on marriage equality

28 March 2013 9:51 AM, PDT

Time magazine’s latest cover is unsurprisingly about the current Supreme Court cases revolving around marriage equality – but the provocative pictures are generating some controversy of their own.

A Buzzfeed post notes, “One of Time’s two new cover photos declaring “gay marriage already won” looks like a wedding kiss. The other looks more like a makeout session,” but while the in-your-face pictures are sure to generate some comments, it wasn’t the point of what the publication was striving for.

In his editor’s letter, Time’s Richard Stengel remarks, “We had a long debate in our offices about »

'Gigi' to return to Broadway

28 March 2013 9:45 AM, PDT

A new musical production of Gigi is coming to Broadway.

Created 40 years ago by Anita Loos, the musical is based on the well-known novel of the same name by French writer Colette and the Oscar-winning 1958 film that starred Leslie Caron. (Audrey Hepburn originally played the heroine in a popular 1951 play.) Loos’ musical didn’t last long when it originally opened in 1973; Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe’s music and lyrics won a Tony but the show closed after only 103 performances.

British playwright and TV screenwriter Heidi Thomas (Upstairs Downstairs) is writing the newest adaptation of the classic romantic comedy about Gigi, »

What are your favorite show-reviving episodes?

28 March 2013 9:15 AM, PDT

Even the best TV shows go wrong. A misconceived plotline winds up bogging down a whole season. (Wait, Landry killed somebody?) A new character fails to gel with the rest of the cast. (See: Every new desperate housewife not played by Dana Delany.) The writers just start repeating the same story beats — oh look, Marissa’s falling in love with the wrong guy again! — or, even worse, they conjure up a potentially exciting twist that pushes the show too far outside of its comfort zone. (See: Abu Nazir, in the tunnels, acting less like a terrorist and more like a horror movie monster. »

Bill O'Reilly doesn't feel that strongly about gay marriage and Stephen Colbert is Devastated! -- Video

28 March 2013 7:08 AM, PDT

In case you missed it, a lot of people are pro-gay marriage right now. It’s kind of the thing. This includes Bill O’Reilly, a noted strong feelings-haver who said recently both that “homosexuals” had the “compelling argument” in this week’s Supreme Court cases and that he doesn’t “feel that strongly about one way or the other.”

This was world-shattering news for Stephen Colbert, who spent his show’s opening monologue working through the Papa Bear Paradox. He started with the flip-flop — “the gayest of all beach sandals” — and ended with goat marriage. America!

Comic-Con 2013: The Course of the Force strikes back

28 March 2013 6:15 AM, PDT

Popular podcaster and affable funny guy Chris Hardwick and his company, Nerdist Industries, are taking another run at Jedi fun this summer with the second annual Course of the Force, the fundraising relay where fans and celebrities take turns running with a lightsaber that they will eventually deliver to Comic-Con International in San Diego.

Modeled on the Olympic torch tradition, Course of the Force was a big hit last year and we caught up with Hardwick for a quick email interview about the miles covered last year and Episode II’s expanded route. (Instead of repeating the 2012 Santa Monica to San Diego route, »
