Capcom Releases The Soundtrack For The First 'Mega Man'

Since this year is the Blue Bomber's 25th anniversary, Capcom has been making noise about different ways they plan to commemorate the occasion. One of those is through the release of every "Mega Man" soundtrack for download.

Capcom-Unity made the announcement last night, revealing that the 28-track Ost from composer Manami Matsumae would be available in the Capcom store for $8.95. The album will include both tracks from the original release along with remixes.

Hopefully, we'll get something similar to the "Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collection" bundling together all of the "Mega Man" soundtracks along with previous game releases.

Want To Know Who Owns The 'No One Lives Forever' License? So Does Activision

The Monolith-developed spy spoof has changed hands so many times that even the company that theoretically owns it doesn't have a clue who can release or make more "No One Lives Forever" games.

In a video post over on One of Swords, Activision community manager tried to grapple with just this question from a fan of the franchise. Once upon a time, media conglomerate Vivendi-Universal and Activision merged, pooling together numerous franchises which the latter company has gradually shed over the years. One example Amrich cites is the raunchy "Leisure Suit Larry" series which was bought by a third party while other Sierra titles like "Space Quest" and "King's Quest" are safe and sound at Activision.

Now here's where it gets slippery: Vivendi owned Fox Interactive who in turn published "No One Lives Forever" back in 2000 for the PC. Monolith, the game's developer was subsequently acquired by Warner Brothers and somewhere in that tangle, »

Enter Sega/Namco-Bandai/Capcom's 'Project X Zone' In June

6 April 2013 11:02 AM, PDT

The massive crossover 3Ds strategy RPG "Project X Zone" is coming to North America on June 25th.

Joystiq caught sight of the announcement over on the Namco Bandai official page touting the summer release. The Banpresto-Monolith Software collaboration brings together scores of characters and music from Sega, Namco Bandai, and Capcom's decades of publishing history in a gigantic team-up to find the mysterious "Portalstone" which allows passage between universes. Didn't something like that figure into the main story of "Street Fighter X Tekken?"

This might not be a final date: neither Capcom nor Sega have made the announcement and (not that this is ever an accurate measurement of things) the Amazon product page shows an August 31 release date.

Gdc 2013: Kirkin' and Spockin' - Hands-on with Star Trek: The Video Game

5 April 2013 5:45 PM, PDT

By Kevin Kelly

Play as Kirk. Play as Spock. Those are the selling points behind the upcoming "Star Trek: The Video Game" from Digital Extremes and Paramount. During the filming of the 2009 movie, the development team got together and decided to pursue an immersive Star Trek video game experience, and they are certainly doing that here by heaping tons of fan service into this title. You can mind meld. You can Vulcan neck pinch. You can find Tribbles. You can flirt with girls as Captain Kirk. You can watch Redshirts die. You can shoot phasers, tricord, beam. Just about everything you would expect to run around and do if you ever found yourself aboard the actual Enterprise.

The game was first shown to press behind closed doors at E3 back in 2010, although at that point the game only used temporary audio, and not the actual voices of the cast. Luckily, »

Philadelphia's Cira Centre Being Transformed Into Massive 'Pong' Game

5 April 2013 4:56 PM, PDT

"Pong" is the game that started it all, and it's about to come to life in a whole new way. On the evening of April 19th, the 83,360 square-foot, north-facing wall of Philadelphia's Cira Centre will be transformed into a massive, functional version of the classic arcade game, kicking off the third annual Philly Tech Week presented by At&T from April 20-27th.

Dr. Frank Lee, a teaching professor in Drexel University's College of Engineering and co-founder of the Drexel Game Design Program, is the man behind the event. He'll be turning the building into his own personal game console thanks 1,514 LEDs lights that were installed on the building during its construction in 2005. He's also getting some help from Technically Philly (who founded Philly Tech Week), Brandywine Realty Trust, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Knight Foundation.

"This is something I’ve been envisioning for quite a while," Lee said. »

Nis America Dates 'Black Rock Shooter' For The U.S.

5 April 2013 3:55 PM, PDT

The character design that became the subject of a song that in turn became an Oav (and later an animated series) is making its way to the PSP on April 23rd from Nis America.

The "Black Rock Shooter" story is a weird one that I only partially knew about. I remembered the illustration from Ryohei "Huke" Fuke kicked off its own weird little media franchise a couple of years back, spawning the aforementioned transmedia-y things along with toys and everything else. But I thought its moment had passed. Apparently not since Nis America has enough faith in the RPG based on the franchise to bring it to the U.S. later this month.

Here's the official synopsis and a collection of screens for your enjoyment:

2032 Ad - Earth has been ruthlessly assaulted by extraterrestrials, and nineteen years of nonstop battle now threatens the very existence of humanity. The last hope for human survival is Brs, »

Sega Spares Wii U Owners A Port Of 'Aliens: Colonial Marines'

5 April 2013 3:20 PM, PDT

It didn't look good when the release date for the Wii U version of "Aliens: Colonial Marines" came and went without the Gearbox shooter making its way to Nintendo's console. Now we have the official word from Sega that they've opted to not release it for the Wii U.

Because at this point, why would they?

"We are constantly looking at all areas of our business and in this case have made the decision to not continue development of the Wii U version," a Sega rep told Kotaku earlier today.

Demiurge Studios ("Frontlines: Fuel of War," "Advent Rising") was responsible for the Wii U port, and it's a shame any work they put into getting that version of the game out the door has been wasted, and I mean this sincerely, I hope this doesn't provide too big a hit for their company (bonuses and future staffing might be tied »

App of the Week: 'Badland'

5 April 2013 3:00 PM, PDT

I have to admit I was immediately excited when Frogmind Games first showed us "Badland," and after putting in some time with the developer's "atmospheric side-scrolling action-adventure platformer," I have to say that excitement is still here.

What I love most about "Badland" is its simplicity. In my honest opinion, any game that tries to utilize virtual joysticks or attempts to mimic the physical controls used for console or PC games is missing the point. Touchscreen games need simple touchscreen controls, and it's obvious the team at Frogmind Games knew this as they ventured into the "Badland." Like "Tiny Wings" or "Angry Birds" before it, the only thing you need in order play "Badland" (aside from an iOS device) is one single finger. And that's a good thing.

The level and character design, and the atmosphere they create when combined on screen, are what really make "Badland" an excellent mobile game. »

'Terraria' Review - What's Down That Hole?

5 April 2013 2:03 PM, PDT

In 2009, the exceptionally small team at Re-Logic, headed up by Andrew "Redigit" Spinks, released "Terraria," a two dimensional, side-scrolling, exploration-driven title, that gave players virtually limitless ability to explore the game's world. Since then, the game has sold millions (with an "s") of copies on PC, and now 505 Games have helped bring this wildly successful release to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Retaining all of the core experiences of the PC release, the console versions received additional content, as well as a handful of other upgrades. It's not uncommon for games that are originally developed for PCs to have difficulty making the transition to a different platform, but, aside from a few quirks, "Terraria" seems to be right at home on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network.

Exploration has been a cornerstone of video gaming since "Adventure" was released on the Atari 2600. Gamers have been venturing to unknown lands on »

Gdc 2013: Talking stealth with developers of the new 'Thief'

5 April 2013 12:00 PM, PDT

Miguel Concepcion

How does a game studio follow up a highly anticipated--and ultimately well received--reboot of a beloved PC franchise? Why, reboot another equally revered PC series. From "Deus Ex: Human Revolution" to the simply titled "Thief", Eidos Montreal clearly like to challenge themselves, even if it might feel like countless invisible PC gamers are looking over their shoulders. MTV Multiplayer caught up with "Thief" producer, Stephan Roy and lead level designer, Daniel Windfeld Schmidt to comment on our reaction to their recent gameplay demo.

Being mindful of the original game's staff and what they've gone on to do, I assume you guys are ready to hear the "Dishonored" comparisons. You crafted this gritty, believable world, that is a bit of a contrast to the abstract look of "Dishonored", so I'm also recalling the originality of "The Witcher".

Daniel Windfeld Schmidt: We've played "Dishonored" and we loved it. We also »

'God of War: Ascension' Update 1.04 Raises Level Caps, Improves Matchmaking

5 April 2013 11:37 AM, PDT

Sony Santa Monica's Vincent Napoli recently took to the PlayStation Blog to let everyone know that an update for "God of War: Ascension" will increase the game's multiplayer level cap, address audio issues, and optimize matchmaking sometime this month.

The biggest enhancement in the 1.04 update will be an increased level cap. Players will now be to move up from level 30 to level 40. To coincide with this, Sony is introducing a new item, two new relics, and an ultimate magic for each god allegiance. More info on these  "Elite Levels" and the new abilities will apparently be revealed leading up to the update's release.

The update will also allow players to access their accomplishments (kill/death ratios, win percentages, etc.) from the main menu, and address some bugs, such as audio drop issues, which are a "critical fix" in this update.

Sony says players should see a "marked improvement" in matchmaking on a daily basis. »

Comic Review: 'The Last of Us: American Dreams' #1 - Ellie Begins

5 April 2013 10:58 AM, PDT

There's a moment midway through the first issue of "The Last of Us: American Dreams" where Ellie, who seems a while away from meeting Joel, makes a grisly discovery in the frame of a truck she's been assigned to clean. That moment illustrates so many things about the character and her world: the ease of violence beyond the secure walls of the military-fortified compounds and more importantly, how quickly the young are forced to get used to it.

Based on the work in this Neil Druckman/Faith Erin Hicks-penned miniseries, not only will we be getting some background teen survivor Ellie, but also a broad look at the plague-afflicted United States in the upcoming Naughty Dog game. As far as first issues go, it works, giving us a first glimpse at a prickly, motivated young heroine and the precarious state of survival in this dying version of America.

Scientists, A Nuke, And A Chaingun Are In These First 'Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon' Screens

5 April 2013 10:20 AM, PDT

At this point, I think we can assume that "Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon" is an expansion to last year's shooter and that Ubisoft is simply playing the long game in teasing it out. The slow tease is actually turning my initial curiosity/anticipation into a little bit of hostility--there's no need to string us along, Ubi.

The latest reveal is a batch of screens which will give you a sense of the art direction for the neon-tinged sci-fi action of "Blood Dragon." Maybe I'd be grousing less if we at least got to lay eyes on said Blood Dragon besides these more generic images of facilities and the not much going on in them.

Marvel Releases New Screens For 'Lego Marvel Super Heroes'

5 April 2013 9:43 AM, PDT

Take a look at some of the Lego-ized versions of characters from the Marvel universe in Tt Games' fall release.

Announced back in January, it's the latest comic book-themed title from "Lego Batman 2: DC Superheroes" developer Tt Games. From the looks of it, "Lego Marvel Super Heroes" seems to be following the same template with swappable characters from throughout the Marvel comic book universe. So far, I spy Hulk, Iron Man, and longtime Spider-Man villain Sandman mixing it up in this batch of screens.

Plus, those environments--look how shiny they are!

"Lego Marvel Super Heroes" will be available on the 3Ds, Wii U, Xbox 360, PS3, and the PC this fall.

Gdc 2013: Fighting with DC Comic Book Icons in 'Injustice: Gods Among Us'

5 April 2013 6:45 AM, PDT

By Kevin Kelly

DC Comics and NetherRealm have crossed paths before although their first meeting was when creative director Ed Boon was working at Midway Studios, and that meeting resulted derailed what would have been the next installment of "Mortal Kombat," and instead became the 2008 fighting game "Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe." While it might not feel like it set the world on fire, the game actually sold almost two million copies, and was on track to have a significant amount of Dlc and would have been supported up until the release of "Mortal Kombat" from the then-renamed NetherRealm Studios, due to Midway's financial issues.

If you haven't played the game, the plot revolves around the Mortal Kombat and DC Comic universes colliding, and basically providing an excuse for these characters to fight each other. The fighting in the game was deep, as you would expect with the injection of Boon and his team's DNA, »

Free-To-Play 'Injustice: Gods Among Us' Arrives On iOS

4 April 2013 2:35 PM, PDT

If you're feeling a little anxious to get into the "Injustice: Gods Among Us" universe you may want to grab your iOS device. To coincide with the upcoming console release on April 16th, a free-to-play version of DC Comics brawler has been released for iPhone and iPad.

Developed by the same team responsible for "Batman: Arkham City Lockdown," Injustice for iOS functions as a standalone game, but features crossover elements to enhance the console version as well. For instance, if you sign up for a Wbid account (something you'll also want for "Infinite Crisis") you'll be able unlock cross-platform rewards including skins and other perks.

Unlike its console counterpart, Injustice on iOS features 3-on-3 tag team matches and NetherRealm has thankfully passed on the virtual joysticks. Instead, players will duke it out using swipe and tap gestures, such as holding two fingers on the screen to block.

Deep Silver To Release Biker Revenge Game 'Ride To Hell: Retribution' In June

4 April 2013 1:50 PM, PDT

Announced all the way back in the grindhouse revival heyday of 2008, this multi-part action game is coming to current-gen consoles and the PC on June 25 from "Dead Island" publisher Deep Silver.

"Ride to Hell: Retribution" follows protagonist Jake Conway as he doles out revenge against the villainous bikers of The Devil's Hand. Everything about the game's presentation in this trailer speaks to that narrow window of time five years ago where some of us thought the 70's-style blood and guts movie aesthetic might be a thing (until "Grindhouse" died a quick death theatrically and every also-ran filmmaker tried to ape the effort).

"Retribution" is part of a multi-release strategy that would see a digital spinoff, "Ride to Hell: Route 666" come to Xbox Live, Psn, and Steam. That game would have players recruiting other bikers and attempting to seize control of swaths of Route 66. Meanwhile, the brawler "Ride to Hell: Beatdown" is coming to mobile. »

Treyarch And Activision Detail 'Black Ops II' April 16 'Uprising' Dlc

4 April 2013 1:15 PM, PDT

The timed exclusive collection of maps for "Black Ops II" adds a little Hollywood star power with Ray Liotta, Chazz Palminteri, Joe Pantoliano, and Michael Madsen lending their voices to the "Mob of the Dead" expansion.

First, "Uprising" brings four new maps to "Black Ops II" multiplayer including an active volcano and locations on a Hollywood backlot. "Magma" introduces hot lava as an environmental danger, offering something besides bullets that can kill you on the map. The high-rise "Vertigo" also seems like a chance to earn some quick suicides to your score with narrow walkways high above the city in atop a arms manufacturer high rise.

"Mob Of Death" brings a little of the 1920's to Treyarch's shooter, placing Liotta, Palminteri, Pantoliano, and Madsen in the roles of four gangsters who find their time behind bars in Alcatraz is about to get interrupted by a plague of the living dead. »
