Bradley Cooper's Perm Is The Week's Most Important News

5 April 2013 10:30 AM, PDT

By Amelia Mularz

As movie fans, we've gotten used to seeing stars step out in varying states of transformation for roles. Recently we've seen Christian Bale with a comb-over and Reese Witherspoon as a brunette. But nothing could've prepared us for Bradley Cooper's new look, which he debuted this week.

A perm.

Yes, a real honest-to-goodness perm. The highly processed, gel-smothered, crunchy-to-the-touch hairstyle that ranked supreme in the 1980s is back and living on the head of the Sexiest Man Alive. Spotted on the set of a new David O. Russell film, Bradley Cooper borrowed a page from adolescent girls of yesteryear and went full-fledged fake curly.

But the part that's truly shocking about the resurgence of the perm is that...well, it actually looks kinda good. Even in the heyday of big hair, experts would agree that a permanent (as it's scientifically known) only looked attractive on approximately »

Benedict Cumberbatch Joins Guillermo Del Toro's 'Crimson Peak'

5 April 2013 9:30 AM, PDT

Guillermo del Toro already had us on board with his planned haunted house movie "Crimson Peak" when we learned Emma Stone and Charlie Hunnam joined the cast, but now he's upped the ante even higher. According to new reports, Benedict Cumberbatch has taken an undisclosed role in the upcoming movie.

Variety broke the news, and also reported that del Toro and Lucinda Coxen are still rewriting Matthew Robins and del Toro's original script. Little is known about the story of "Crimson Peak," but del Toro did describe it as a "very set-oriented classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story" that would allow him to "play with the conventions of the genre I know and love, and at the same time subvert the old rules."

Needless to say, we're thrilled with this news. Cumberbatch has fast become one of our favorite actors working today, and having »

'Jurassic Park 4': The Dinosaurs We Want To See

5 April 2013 8:30 AM, PDT

By Eddie Wright

On the eve of the 3-D release of "Jurassic Park," dinosaur expert, and consultant on the film, Jack Horner – and inspiration for Sam Neil's character – teased a tiny detail about the an as-of-yet-unseen dinosaur that'll make an appearance in the upcoming Colin Trevorrow-directed "Jurassic Park 4." He said:

"I can't actually tell you who that will be…But you'll want to keep the lights on after you see this movie."

So that got me thinking. What utterly terrifying dinosaur could pop up in the flick? We've seen the T-Rex, Velociraptors, and Dilophosaurus munch some human in the first film, "The Lost World" added the Compsognathus, and "Jurassic Park III" had a Pteranodon attack and introduced the audience to the big bad Spinosaurus. So which horrible, thunderous lizard is next? Let's take a guess.

Utahraptor

Sure, this guy is similar to the heavily-featured Velociraptors in all three "Jurassic Park" movies, »

'Carrie' Trailer Gives Us A Peek Inside The Prom

5 April 2013 7:30 AM, PDT

Well, they certainly aren't worried about spoilers.

And to be fair, director Kimberly Peirce and the makers of "Carrie" don't have to be. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone in a square mile that doesn't know how the tale of the telepathic teen ends. Sadly, the blood-soaked prom is likely the only scene people can recalled from Brian De Palma's original 1976 adaptation of Stephen King's first novel.

The new trailer for the 2013 version (via Yahoo! Movies), starring Chloe Moretz as Carrie White, essentially tells the story from beginning to end, including several memorable scenes from the book and De Palma film like Carrie's run-in with her classmates in the gym showers.

Check out the full trailer after the jump!

4 April 2013 1:32 PM, PDT

Here's the thing: we're totally obsessed with the new "The Great Gatsby" trailer. It doesn't matter that it's a little bit disjointed as it tries to showcase its newly announced and absolutely incredible soundtrack because the visual feast director Baz Luhrmann has provided absolutely makes up for it.

4 April 2013 12:30 PM, PDT

Yes, we are still dealing with the crushing blow that we'll have to wait until October to see Kimberly Pierce's adaptation of Stephen King's first book "Carrie," but that doesn't mean we can't still look forward to seeing Chloe Moretz go crazy while covered in blood, does it?

Four Clips From 'Oblivion' Arrive Along With M83's Score

4 April 2013 11:30 AM, PDT

If you can't wait until April 19 to see "Oblivion," then the four new clips that have been released by Universal should be a good tease for you. They feature everything we've been dying to see in the movie: the Bubbleship, the Scavs and, of course, Tom Cruise.

The most interesting of the four clips is the second, which is when Cruise's Jack Harper sees Olga Kurylenko's character for the first time. As the third clip informs us, Jack has no memories from before his "mission" began, but he also for some reason recognizes the girl in the pod. Clearly there's a lot going on that he isn't clued in on.

Check out the four clips after the jump!

The final clip shows Jack finally coming face-to-face with Morgan Freeman's character, who is interrogating him. It's clear that Freeman's character knows a bit more about the world they inhabit »

Logan's Slogans With Logan Lerman Shows No Mercy

4 April 2013 10:30 AM, PDT

We all love Logan Lerman, right? The soft-spoken charmer from "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" won over just about anyone who came within 50 feet of his image on a big screen, but now that he's returning to the action of the "Percy Jackson" series, he's missing a little something.

And that's a badass slogan.

In the newest episode of After Hours, MTV News' Josh Horowitz walks Lerman through some potential taglines for the half-blood hero. If he's ever going to be taken seriously as an action star, these are the kind of one-liners he'll need to spout off on a whim.

Seven Things You Didn't Know About 'Jurassic Park'

4 April 2013 7:38 AM, PDT

By Tara Fowler

One of my earliest memories is going to see "Jurassic Park" with my father (my parents didn't believe in little things called "ratings restrictions"). I don't remember much of the actual movie from the T. rex attack on because I spent it with my arms wrapped around my dad's neck staring at the back of the theater.

And yet, despite traumatizing my 4-year-old self, "Jurassic Park" has since managed to become one of my favorite movies (and books) of all time. In honor of this weekend's 3D re-release, I've cobbled together seven facts about the film. Read on, dinosaur aficionados!

1) It owes its existence to "ER": Director Steven Spielberg was initially working with "Jurassic Park" author Michael Crichton to develop a film version of what would later become "ER" when he heard about Crichton's dino-park horror show novel and decided to make that instead. But Spielberg »

'30 Rock' Movie Reference Supercut, Or 'Blurgh, I Just Lost 16 Minutes'

4 April 2013 6:00 AM, PDT

Though we're still mourning the loss of our beautiful "30 Rock," we'll always have seven wonderful seasons of comedy to watch on Netflix any time we're sad. The buried jokes and refernces on "30 Rock" make a rewatching marathons and supercuts, like the one Film.com just put together, so enjoyable.

For this supercut, Film.com grabbed every movie reference made during the seven seasons of "30 Rock," and if you know anything about the tale of Liz Lemon, you know there are a lot of them, 16 minutes of them, in fact.

Try not to watch every second of the hilarity, and then celebrate 16 minutes well spent with a perfectly executed Chewbacca sound.
