Evil Dead Alive at Friday Box Office with $11.9 Million Opening Day

Columbia TriStar's remake of Evil Dead was propelled by a wave of positive reviews and promises of excessive gore to a strong opening day at the North American box office. Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park 3D also opening strong in second place, while last weekend's champ G.I. Joe: Retaliation slipped to third.

Evil Dead bowed at 3,025 locations to the tune of $11.9 million during its first 24 hours of release. With a production budget estimated at only $17 million, the remake of Sam Raimi's classic with Raimi and Bruce Campbell serving as producers will easily top $20 million through Sunday, which also happens to be more than the previous three Evil Dead films made at the box office combined during their theatrical runs. Somewhere between $25 and $30 million seems a safe bet for Evil Dead's opening weekend.

Hot Toys Iron Man Mark Xlii Iron Man 3 Die Cast Figure Up for Pre-Order

Hot Toys has unveiled the 1:6 scale Iron Man Mark Xlii die cast figure based on the character's appearance in Iron Man 3 early next month, and Sideshow Collectibles has begun taking pre-orders. The figure marks the second entry in the 1:6 scale Hot Toys die cast line, the first being Iron Patriot.

Like Iron Patriot, the Iron Man Mark Xlii die cast figure includes an alternate head featuring the likeness of the character's actor, in this case Robert Downey Jr., inside the mask. Unlike Iron Patriot, this new mostly gold Iron Man's alternate head is battle damaged as seen in the various trailers and TV spots for Iron Man 3.

In addition, the Iron Man Mark Xlii die cast figure also includes a helmeted head with light-up eyes, light-up arc reactor in chest, one pair of damaged shoulder armor, one damaged chest armor, one damaged biceps armor, one pair of damaged forearm armor, »

Chloe Moretz Unleashes Terror and Spoilers in First Carrie Trailer

Chloe Moretz steps into the shoes of bullied Carrie in the upcoming Sony remake, and judging by the first trailer, the studio figures everyone already knows what's going to happen.

The original 1976 film based on the bestselling book by Stephen King and starring Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie as mother and daughter, respectively, is generally known as a horror classic. For the remake, director Kimberly Peirce is telling virtually the same story, though it looks like we'll get to see much more of Carrie's reprisal against her classmates for dumping a bucket of blood on her at prom.

Playing against Chloe Moretz as mom is Julianne Moore and the trailer also gives away her arc from concerned mother to abused mother once Carrie discovers her abilities and starts putting them to use.

Carrie aims to fulfill the "trick" portion of trick-or-treat when it arrives in theaters just in time for »

Jurassic Park 3D Review: Dinos in Your Face

5 April 2013 4:39 PM, PDT

If there was one movie in the last 20 years that deserved a digital 3D upgrade, it had to be Steven Spielberg's 1993 masterpiece, Jurassic Park. The film, which was the first to integrate fully-functioning CGI characters (in this case, dinosaurs) into the filmmakers toolbox, gave Universal Pictures plenty to work with. The big question was would it work on a film celebrating its 20th anniversary?

By now, everyone who cares has seen, or at least knows the story of Jurassic Park. What made the film so unique back in 1993 was in its timing. The Internet was in its very infancy and science and technology were making huge leaps and bounds on a monthly basis. When Michael Crichton published the novel, his idea of cloning dinosaurs from the blood stored inside preserved prehistoric mosquitos was a ludicrous notion that soon became somewhat a reality with the cloning of Dolly the sheep. »

Ellen DeGeneres to Star in Pixar's Finding Nemo Sequel

2 April 2013 8:50 PM, PDT

Ellen DeGeneres will be the star attraction in Disney and Pixar's Finding Dory, the officially announced sequel to the 2003 animated hit Finding Nemo that is now in production.

Getting the Finding Nemo sequel off the ground has been an ongoing process that first appeared in the media well over a year ago with word that DeGeneres was on board. It was never a matter of "if" Disney and Pixar would be making the sequel, but a matter of "when." Now we know the Finding Dory release date is set for November 25, 2015.

When looking for sequel ideas to Finding Nemo, director Andrew Stanton, whom helmed the original and appears to be back for the sequel, said he and his team began wondering why Dory was all alone when she first bumped into Nemo. This question will be answered in Finding Dory and lead to the introduction of Dory's family and lessons about the meaning of family. »

Disney Infinity "Creating" Trailer Reveals Jessie, Ferb and Vanellope von Schweetz

2 April 2013 9:20 AM, PDT

Disney Interactive is hoping to keep the Disney Infinity hype alive after the release date bump from June to August with new promotional materials like the just-released "Creating" trailer which you can watch below.

Several Disney filmmaking heavyweights pitch in their thoughts on the creation of Disney Infinity in various interview snippets strewn throughout the trailer. You're probably more interested in the gameplay footage, and there are definitely some interesting items to take note of.

Wreck-It Ralph and his co-star Vanellope von Schweetz both make an appearance in the game's Toy Box mode which all but confirms their future release as Disney Infinity figures. Watch closely and you can also spot Jessie from Toy Story 3 as well as what appears to be the Headless Horseman's horse from Sleepy Hollow.

Grand Theft Auto 5 Official Cover Art and Screens Visit Land, Sea and Air

2 April 2013 8:26 AM, PDT

Rockstar Games has unveiled the official cover art for Grand Theft Auto V and also delivered ten screenshots that highlight the game's diverse landscapes to explore.

My favorite knock-off in the Gtav cover art is a cell phone that looks to have a peach logo on it instead of the iPhone Apple. Naming a dog "Chop" is a good one, too.

These latest Gtav screenshots, viewable in high resolution below the cover art, push the land, sea and air environments that Rockstar has built into the game. Their motto seems to be if a human can go there, it's worth putting into the game.

Grand Theft Auto V is coming to Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and the PC on September 17, 2013. While that seems like an eternity away, the big day will arrive before you know it and your free time will evaporate as a result.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation Commands Box Office on Easter Weekend

2 April 2013 7:41 AM, PDT

Despite an eight-month release delay, Paramount's G.I. Joe: Retaliation stormed the North American box office over the Easter holiday weekend to beat out fellow newcomers Tyler Perry's Temptation and The Host. Overall, the top ten was up eight percent from last year at this time when The Hunger Games earned a big $58.5 million in its second go-around and Wrath of the Titans opened to $33 million.

Originally set to open June 28, 2012, Paramount infamously pulled the $135 million G.I. Joe: Retaliation from its summer schedule at the last minute. While the pull all but screamed that the studio was worried that the summer event flick was about to be buried by the likes of The Amazing Spider-Man, the reasoning the studio gave for the decision was twofold. The first reason was to post-convert the film to 3D, and the second was to add more scenes of Channing Tatum to the movie. As we all know by now, »

Watch Under the Dome First Footage Based on Stephen King's Book

1 April 2013 8:16 AM, PDT

Under the Dome will mark the latest Stephen King book adapted for the small screen when CBS runs the 13-episode event this upcoming summer. The first footage and behind-the-scenes sneak peek was revealed at WonderCon on Saturday for attendees of the panel, and today CBS has released the one-minute video online for the rest of us to watch.

In Under the Dome, the town of Chester's Mill finds itself suddenly trapped under a transparent dome that won't let anyone in or out. This circumstance creates a rather under set of conditions that the townsfolk and law enforcement officials will have to contend with leading to some rather intense drama as only Stephen King can deliver.

Showrunner Neal Baer commented at the WonderCon panel that he would love for Under the Dome to run for multiple seasons even though there is only one book as source material. The adaptation of the »

The Walking Dead Season 3 Finale Episode 316 'Welcome to the Tombs' Preview and Online Stream

31 March 2013 6:02 PM, PDT

The Walking Dead: Season 3 wraps up shortly tonight on AMC with the finale episode 316 'Welcome to the Tombs.' If you believe star Andrew Lincoln then what's about to come will be nothing short of a bloodbath. During an interview earlier this week, Lincoln was asked for his thoughts about the finale and revealed that there will be a whopping 27 casualties in the one-hour episode - not including any zombie kills. If true, then Woodbury's population is about to shrink dramatically and some core characters from the prison camp could be gone for good. Be sure to set your DVR or find online stream instructions for tonight's episode below with Game of Thrones premiering its third season at the exact same time.

The penultimate episode of The Walking Dead last week wasn't as much as set-up for the finale as it was a farewell to Merle (Michael Rooker), the »

Game of Thrones Season 3 Premiere Episode 21 'Valar Dohaeris' Preview and Online Stream

31 March 2013 5:25 PM, PDT

Game of Thrones makes what should be a triumphant return on HBO in HD tonight with the Season 3 premiere episode 'Valar Dohaeris' following what felt like an eternal wait through, ironically, winter. It will be up to you whether to watch tonight's premiere live or record for later with that show about zombies concluding its season tonight at the exact same time. Either way, there is a way to stream it live online if a zombie invasion won out the programming time slot battle.

When we last left Game of Thrones nearly a year ago, Jon Snow had been taken into custody by the Wildlings and should only get closer to Ygritte from this point forward as he is taken before the Wildling King. Snow's Night Watch friend, Samwell, came face-to-face with a massive Whitewalker army marching toward the wall and lived to hopefully tell someone about it.
