Box Office: Evil Dead Set For $26M; G.I. Joe: Retaliation Muscles Its Way To #2
3 hours ago
Fede Alvarez's remake of Evil Dead has continued to exceed expectations as it easily took the top spot in North America with an impressive three day total of $26 million. That's far beyond many initial estimates and a fantastic start for a movie which cost only $17 million to produce. It was thought that Jurassic Park 3D would take second place, but G.I. Joe: Retaliation has muscled its way into that position with an admirable $20.7 million. That takes the sequel's current domestic cume to over $86 million! The 3D re-release (which was overseen by Steven Spielberg himself) dropped to #4 and has taken a predicted total of $18.7 million. You can read my review of Evil Dead by clicking Here and G.I. Joe: Retaliation by clicking Here. Many thanks to Deadline for the following figures. 1. Evil Dead (FilmDistrict/Tristar/Sony) New [Runs 3,025] R Friday $11.9M, Saturday $9.1M, Weekend $26.M 2. G.I. Man Of Steel Visual Effects Supervisor Says The Film Does Away With Pretense
16 hours ago
After a period of relative quietness, we've heard some interesting tidbits about Man of Steel this week thanks to interviews with Laurence Fishburne and Hans Zimmer. Now a new interview has surfaced with the Emmy award winning Joe Letteri of Weta. Obviously, he couldn't go into specifics but he did speak abstractly about the film saying, I can’t talk too much about Man of Steel yet, and I haven’t seen the whole thing yet, but overall it’s the story that’s most exciting. It’s a nice re-envisioning of the story of Superman leaving his homeworld and coming to this new one." Nice to hear some praise for the film but it's Letteri's next few quotes that are truly interesting. "If you look at what Zack [Snyder] has done you’ll see that they’ve abandoned a lot of the pretense that was in the comics and asked »

Star Trek Into Darkness Screenwriter Roberto Orci Talks J.J. Abrams And Star Wars
18 hours ago
As you should already know, J.J. Abrams' next task after completing Star Trek Into Darkness is to reintroduce Star Wars to an audience who desperately want and need to forget the prequels released last decade. Talking to Empire Magazine, writer Roberto Orci has shared his thoughts on how he felt when he learned that the director had a new sci-fi franchise to focus on and how he believes this will all impact the release of the next instalment in the Star Trek franchise. "First I was happy for J.J., but I definitely felt a disturbance in the Force - which, incidentally, was first felt by Spock on the original series of Star Trek: when 400 Vulcans died he felt it across space, just like Ben Kenobi, but a decade ahead... "Anyway, we're all fans of Star Wars. Still, this is going to affect calendars and now it's two »
Christopher Nolan Talks Interstellar Influences
21 hours ago
So far all we know about Christopher Nolan's upcoming Interstellar is that it will star Matthew McConaughey and involve wormholes and alternate dimensions, and although EW ask the director about the project in their excellent article on the lasting influence Stanley Kubrick, it looks like it's gonna stay that way for a while longer! But, Nolan does name a few sci-fi movies that he may well be looking to for inspiration. "I think anytime you look at science fiction in movies, there are key touchstones. Metropolis. Blade Runner. 2001," Nolan continues. "Whenever you’re talking about getting off the planet, 2001 is somewhat unavoidable. But there is only one 2001. So you don’t want to get too near to that." Nolan goes on to talk about his love of Kubrick - and 2001 in particular - going so far as to say that some of the late director's imagery makes him »

Brian Michael Bendis revealed on his tumblr that yes, there is a 616-Marvel Universe Miles Morales (as hinted at in the conclusion of Spider-Men) and that yes, there are plans to do something with the character. What those plans are and when they'll be implemented is anyone's guess. Christoper Nolan is scouting filming locations for his net film project, a sci-fi time travel thriller titled Interstellar which also deals with concepts such as black holes and alternate dimensions. Reportedly, The Dark Knight Rises director was in Iceland over Easter to scout film locations. Unsurprisingly, Josh Dallas is a little bummed out that his Once Upon a Time schedule didn't permit him to film Thor: The Dark World. "Of course there was disappointment there. It was a movie I loved doing, and I was super-excited by going into [the sequel]. That was always the plan, to do the second one. But »
Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy Set In Year 2045?
6 April 2013 7:23 AM, PDT
As the James Gunn-directed space epic’s cast slowly fills out, Guardians of the Galaxy is currently prepping production in England for a late-June filming start date. In light of set preparations, UK motorcycle manufacturers have been approached by Marvel, who are apparently seeking “[multiple] futuristic looking electric bikes.” The Motorbike Times reports, “The comic book movie makers have contacted the Motorcycle Industry Association (McIa) and explained that the bike will be used in a major production that will be shot in England in an imaginary 2045.” Although Guardians of the Galaxy isn’t named as the major production these prospective futuristic bikes will feature in, it is the only Phase Two cinematic venture that’s slated to film in the UK, other than The Avengers 2. However, what’s most interesting from the above quote is that Guardians may take place in the year 2045, which is quite a time-jump for »
First Look: Megan Fox Sporting Red Locks For Upcoming Ninja Turtles Movie
6 April 2013 6:59 AM, PDT
I hope this holds even a gram's worth of news. If anything, keep some Tmnt discussions churning. This is the first look at Megan Fox with her April O'Neil hairdo. She was seen arriving at Lax revealing her new hair color on Thursday. What do you guys think? It's not a very revealing shot, especially in the sense that all we see her in is shades and a big coat, but the "iconic" hair is there and clearly different than her usual brunette locks. And this is just a side-by-side comparison of Megan and past Aprils in action (as well as her brunette self): Michael Bay's Ninja Turtles releases June 6th, 2014. »
