Renowned Film Critic Roger Ebert Dies
4 April 2013 9:51 PM, PDT
Film critic Roger Ebert has died at 70 from complications due to cancer.
Thumbs up or thumbs down. It was the primary gesture of the long-running TV series that Pulitzer Prize-winning film critic Roger Ebert co-hosted, first with Gene Siskel of the Chicago Tribune, and then ― after Siskel’s death in 1999 ― with Sun-Times colleague Richard Roeper.
Ebert, who had remained a film critic for the paper since 1967, died Thursday at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago as he was getting ready to go home for hospice care, his wife, Chaz, said in a statement posted on his blog Thursday.
Ebert was 70. He passed away from complications due to cancer.
This news came merely one day after Ebert announced a “Leave of Presence” on account of the cancer he’d been fighting since 2002 suddenly resurfacing. The announcement arrived 46 years to the date that the beloved critic began writing film reviews for the Chicago Sun-Times. »

Full ‘Man of Steel Costumes’ Revealed Via DC Collectibles
4 April 2013 5:36 PM, PDT
Trying to keep elements of a film completely secret is something of a losing battle for studios these days. Between the Internet and the merchandizing push, full glimpses of things like costumes and apparatus happen frequently, and it seems as though Warner Bros.’ upcoming Man of Steel isn’t immune to the phenomenon.
Michael Croteau sent Shh some scans from DC Collectibles’ Preview, which show statues from the forthcoming film. These statues reveal Superman (Henry Cavill), General Zod (Michael Shannon), Jor-El (Russell Crowe) and Faora (Antje Traue) in full regalia, and doubtless with complete accuracy. You can check out the scans below.
Frankly, these new designs ― while certainly not looking bad, per se ― lack the innovation of their predecessors. Gone is the clean, iridescent production design of 1978′s Superman film; a look which subsequently became iconic. However, to satisfy a modern audience, a new direction was sought/needed, and Zack Snyder »

‘Jurassic Park 4′ Will Feature All-New Dinosaur Creation

Even though Frank Marshall, Patrick Crowley and Steven Spielberg are hard at work producing a new Jurassic Park film, there is still almost nothing we know about the storyline at this point. However, a new feature in USA Today has revealed that a brand new dinosaur will be featured in the film.
Expect Velociraptors and at least one T-Rex to return, but beyond that, a new creation, purportedly quite a frightening one, will rear its head in Jurassic Park 4.
“I can’t actually tell you who that will be,” offered paleontologist Jack Horner, who served as technical advisor for the previous Jurassic Park films and will consult on the new film. “But you’ll want to keep the lights on after you see this movie.”
We’re not sure what this could be, so we’ll leave it to readers to speculate and debate the question. »

New ‘Iron Man 3′ TV Spot Reveals Extremis Soldiers, as Robert Downey Jr. Kicks Off Film’s World Tour in South Korea
4 April 2013 2:00 PM, PDT
A new TV spot for Iron Man 3 has arrived online and it contains brand new footage from the film, including a first look at Mandarin’s Extremis Soldiers. The spot comes courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. Check it out using the embedded player below.
Meanwhile, Robert Downey Jr. arrived late Wednesday in Seoul to kick off the film’s promotional tour, even as tensions between the United States and North Korea continue to escalate. It was the first time in five years that the actor had visited the country; the last time was while promoting the first installment of the superhero franchise in 2008.
According to THR, Downey Jr. spontaneously broke into some “Gangnam Style” moves next to a life-size Iron Man figure.
While discussing the film, he reiterated how The Avengers had really informed the direction of Iron Man 3:
“While we were talking about making a third Iron Man, »

After a few weeks of speculation, today NBC announced that Jimmy Fallon will indeed replace Jay Leno on The Tonight Show during the spring of 2014. Moreover, the show will move to 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York, where the legendary program first debuted in 1954, with host Jack Parr.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo praised the move, reported CNN, saying in a statement “on behalf of all New Yorkers” that he’s “pleased to welcome ‘The Tonight Show’ back to its first home.”
When it began in 1954, the “original ‘Tonight Show’ ushered in the modern era of television,” Cuomo continued. “It is only fitting that as ‘The Tonight Show’ returns to our state, it will be headlined by New York’s own native son and resident, Jimmy Fallon.”

Why We’re Amped for a Tortured Tony Stark in ‘Iron Man 3′
3 April 2013 6:12 PM, PDT
The 'Nuclear shadows' of the Chitauri attack in Iron Man 3?
With Iron Man 3 set for release in exactly one month, we thought we’d take a look at four reasons why you should be excited by a second sequel (sequels being, too often, not worth the price of admission).
1. The Avengers
Yep, part of what makes Iron Man 3 so potentially engrossing is seeing how Tony Stark’s experience battling “an army…from outer space” (Thanks, Cap) has changed the billionaire industrialist. As Stark himself proclaims in Iron Man 3‘s trailers, “nothing’s been the same since New York.” Has his ego “matured”? Is he more concerned about the plight of the everyman?
There’s a great scene in the trailer that appears as though it’s a shrine to the fallen (after the battle with the Chitauri), and ― unless I miss my guess ― looks like the »

Robert Redford Confirmed to Star in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’
2 April 2013 5:52 PM, PDT
Robert Redford will star in Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Last week it was reported that Robert Redford was being courted to star in Marvel Studios’ upcoming sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Today the veteran actor confirmed his casting in the film, via Spinoff Online. When asked about who he will play in the film, Redford said, “Well, the head of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
Redford then discussed why he chose to take on a role that is decidedly different from anything he has done before in his career. “The Captain America thing is just a very simple thing I wanted to do something different. I wanted to do something just to be different. Something bold, different. And that felt like a good thing to do. That was it, nothing more to it than that. Well, it’s bold in terms of expectations, I guess.”
Though Redford offered no details about the character, »

‘Elysium’ Goes Viral with New Site
2 April 2013 4:03 PM, PDT
Matt Damon stars in Elysium
If you’re a sci-fi fan, then this summer will see a couple of potential blockbuster films headed your way. The first is the Tom Cruise vehicle, Oblivion, set for release on April 19th, while the second is Elysium, stars Matt Damon, and arrives in theaters on August 9th. Both stories happen on stressed future Earths, but beyond that, the similarities diverge: in Oblivion earth is (mostly) divested of life. In Elysium, the planet is overpopulated.
Elysium, which is helmed by District 9 director, Neill Blomkamp, just launched a website for the film, entitled WelcometoElysium.com. The site details what exactly Elysium is and features references to Faran Tahir and Jodie Foster’s characters in the film. Also, readers in Los Angeles can sign up for an “Exclusive Live Demo of Elysium.’” Though we find the phrase “Guggenheim Commission for Elysium Beautification” a bit awkward. »
