Sandra Bullock on ‘The Proposal’s’ popularity: ‘Nudity had to do with it’
9 November 2009 4:27 AM, PST
If you were to ask me why I thought the Sandra Bullock-Ryan Reynolds romantic comedy, The Proposal, was a success, I would tell you that it was because of the film’s comedic writing and fabulous cast chemistry. If you ask Bullock herself, she may tell you something different.
“We had all the right people, the right elements in the right place” Bullock said. “But to be honest I think nudity had a great deal to do with it. People liked it.”
The quote comes from British online tabloid Stv so we can’t tell if a) she really said it b) it was completely tongue-in-cheek or c) it was taken out of context.
The Proposal made $315 million worldwide when it was released earlier this year.
Here’s a clip of the scene in question. It’s one of the highlights in the film.

Under pressure, CW producers to change theme of ‘Gossip Girl’
9 November 2009 4:22 AM, PST
In response to the recent statement issued by the Parents Television Council, producers of the CW’s hit drama Gossip Girl will make changes to the show’s storyline, advertisements and characters in order to create wholesome entertainment for the country’s parent-less children.
“We really don’t have a choice. We feel compelled to do this for the impressionable kids out there with no parents or guardians,” said CW spokesperson Michelle Garrett. “Thanks to the PTC’s statement, we, along with the show’s advertisers, feel like the appropriate thing to do will be to completely overhaul the show so teens aren’t turned into sexual deviants.”
Last week, the Parents Television Council asked CW affiliates to preempt an upcoming episode of Gossip Girl in which a threesome between the show’s main characters has been teased. Promos for the show identify the act occurring between unidentified characters in an episode entitled 3Some. »

Up Blu-Ray Review

Critics and audiences alike often get flack for championing Pixar’s films every time a new one is released. While everyone does go crazy with praise, just take a look at their catalog. Cars and A Bug’s Life may not be up to the standards of Toy Story 2, Wall-e, or Finding Nemo but they’re still better than half of the animated movies that are released over the years. If anything they’re probably the best studio around as they consistently churn out projects that above all put their story and characters first. One year ago, everyone crowned Wall-e as their finest achievement and was on many “best of” lists, mine included. While Up is certainly going to be there this year, my question now is will it remain on top? While it’s dropped a place or two, there’s no denying that Pixar has crafted their finest film. »
