Ru? Instant Reaction Review Podcast Ep. 50 – The Incredible Burt Wonderstone Review

2 April 2013 1:27 PM, PDT

Kindle

There aren’t a lot of movies that really take us by surprise, but this was one. Not that we thought it was going to be great, but with Steve Carell (who I like generally), Jim Carrey (who can be hilarious), and a decent helping of talent surrounding them, we expected… something.

That really isn’t what we got though… something. At this point, anything would have been nice.

A string of gags sewn together in the quickest, most slipshod fashion, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone’s best feature is the eerie self-reference it makes about a “show” being knocked out by people who don’t care anymore.

Give a listen below, we’re fairly confident that we’re more entertaining than the movie itself… you know, just kind of by default.

And, don’t forget that you can win every movie we review this year! Check the sidebar for the details. »

Game Of Thrones Renewed After Strong Season Debut

2 April 2013 11:04 AM, PDT

Kindle

With the way HBO has been running its original programming, it should be no surprise at all that Game of Thrones has already been renewed for a fourth season, despite the close proximity to the premiere of the third season. Actually, that it wasn’t renewed before the premiere is something of a surprise.

Not only is the show still receiving high praise from critics, the season premiere broke records for viewership. On the other side of things, it was actually one of the more boring episodes of the show, with a lot of effort spent on establishing positions and setting things in motion. I mean, come on, not much happened. Still, there’s little reason to believe that the ratings won’t continue to soar.

So, if you haven’t gotten in on the game yet, this is a perfect time to jump in and get caught up. »

Watchbot Wireless Home Security Camera Review

2 April 2013 9:58 AM, PDT

Kindle

As a critic of media, who semi-frequently branches out into product reviews, it’s incredibly rare that a product, no matter what kind, meets my expectations when I wasn’t actively after the thing beforehand. I think of this as something of a “door-to-door salesman reaction”. It’s a reaction that I actually try hard not to have, but usually with little success.

I mention this merely for the sake of a specific kind of full disclosure. Though there is a sense in which I suspect everyone is the target market for a Watchbot Wireless Home Security Camera, because even just as a theory, it’s fantastically cool, they also cost money, which might trim down that market considerably. Thus, apart from one very specific use, which is a fluke really, I don’t imagine the gadget fills a need for me.

How To Live With Your Parents (For The Rest Of Your Life) Review

1 April 2013 10:18 AM, PDT

Kindle

For the last couple of years, ABC has been playing with the “throw anything at the wall and see if something sticks” theory of sitcoms. This has led to a lot of strange shows and a lot of very niche markets. While ABC has some great comedies, this approach has led to a lot of quick cancels, and some tricky situations. The Neighbors leaps to mind, as does the difficulty the network is having with Happy Endings (a hilarious show, which isn’t getting sold appropriately, and is somewhat niche itself).

Now we have a new show that’s really focused on the awkward and uncomfortable theory of comedy, and it’s one that is pretty hard to predict.

How to Live with Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life) tries to get a bit of star power as hook, with Sarah ChalkeBrad Garrett, and Elizabeth Perkins, »
