Blu-ray Capsule Review: Terminator Salvation

Terminator Salvation Quick Thoughts: Terminator Salvation as a film is no better on Blu-ray than it was in theaters when I gave it a "D" review, but I will say watching it in the comfort of my own home is far less annoying than it was when I had to endure it's stupidity at the cinema. Of course, at that time it was a major letdown. Now, I know exactly what to expect, a film made up of action set pieces completely devoid of anything resembling an intelligent storyline. As long as you are cool with that this film delivers.

On Blu-ray the action is just as impressive as it was in theaters outside of a few complaints I won't even worry about getting into here as you can read my theatrical review for those details. The visuals of the film are equally impressive and I still think Dp Shane Hurlbut »

Blu-ray Capsule Review: Rocky - The Undisputed Collection

Rocky - The Undisputed Collection Quick Thoughts: This new Blu-ray collection of the Rocky franchise replaces my previous 2004 DVD collection, which contained the first five films and my separate copy of 2007's Rocky Balboa. Of course, if you own those two items you already own pretty much everything included in this new set as the lone new feature is a new interactive game called "Feeling Strong Now!" which is just a Rocky trivia feature hardly giving enough reason to buy this set.

The Blu-ray presentation is hardly impressive, only improving in quality as we get later and later down the line, which is no surprise as the negatives haven't been sitting around for as long and aren't in need of any severe amount of restoration. However, none of these films saw any kind of nw restoration and it shows.

Outside of the picture quality of Rocky Balboa, Rocky is the best of the bunch, »

Back on November 20, The Hollywood Reporter pointed out Uruguayan filmmaker Fede Alvarez's 2009 short Ataque de Panico (Panic Attack) after the sub-5-minute short made its way onto YouTube and became an instant online phenomenon.

Now, Variety is reporting Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures has made a seven-figure deal with Alvarez to direct his pitch for a feature length alien invasion film. Of course, this deal is prompting people to ask if we are looking at the next Neill Blomkamp, the South African director of this summer's breakout hit District 9.

Alvarez made Panic Attack through his commercial production house at a cost between $300-$500 about an apocalyptic robot attack. Following the online storm of attention, he made a trip to Hollywood, where he met with every major agency, management firm and law firm that responded to the short--and a big deal.
