Smallville: First Official Pics Of Dr. Fate, Hawkman & Stargirl
18 hours ago
With one holiday down we’re coming ever closer to the premiere of Smallville: Absolute Justice and the closer we get, the more we get to see, and today The CW has finally released some official pictures of Justice Society members Dr. Fate and Stargirl, as well as some tussling about from Green Arrow and Hawkman. Hopefully, this trend will continue so that I won’t have to spend time pulling stills from YouTube trailers.
Last week we brought you some awesome (and I do mean awesome) pictures of Dr. Fate, Sandman and a little glimpse of Green Lantern. Sure, the pictures were from a teaser trailer, but I think the general consensus was that they looked great and the excitement continued to build for this movie.
While I’m not attempting to set fans up for a fall, I do have to be completely honest and say that the pictures released today, »

Peter Jackson Updates The Hobbit & Tintin
27 November 2009 1:55 PM, PST
We recently learned that the script was done for at least the first part of Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro’s highly anticipated adaptation of The Hobbit. It’s now in the hands of the studio, who Jackson says, “seem to be happy with it.”
Jackson talked, during a press conference for his drama The Lovely Bones, about the fact that he thought it’d be difficult to get back into the groove of writing “Lord of the Rings style” since it’s been about 8 years since they wrote the script for that trilogy. However, once they got started it was “easy,” said Jackson.
On top of that info about the first script being finished and handed in, Jackson spilled some more beans to the BBC, again during a press conference for The Lovely Bones. He talked about the fact that he’s been scouting locations in New Zealand »

First Official Pics From Narnia’s ‘Dawn Treader’
27 November 2009 9:45 AM, PST
Back in August, we gave you a first glimpse at the ship from the upcoming third Chronicles of Narnia installment, subtitled The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. They weren’t official pics, but rather some taken by the father of one of the bloggers at the Cleveland Point, in Australia, where the Dawn Treader (the ship that’s the focus of the third film) was being constructed.
However, the first official pics from The Voyage of the Dawn Treader appeared online recently and we have them here for your viewing pleasure. They surfaced on the film’s official Facebook page: one of them features the ship’s steering wheel (shown above), while the other two show the characters of King Caspian (played by Ben Barnes), Edmund (played by Skandar Keynes) and Lucy (played by Georgie Henley).
You’ve seen the first image above, now here are the other two. Take »

Avatar: Making A Scene Featurette
27 November 2009 8:51 AM, PST
As the release date approaches for James Cameron’s much-debated sci-fi/fantasy extravaganza, Avatar, the curtain that’s been hanging over the film for nearly a decade and a half keeps on getting pulled further and further back.
Today, we have a 10-minute clip from Avatar that provides the proverbial “anatomy of a scene.” Looking at it, you can see just how much work (and revolutionary special effects work) went into each and every sequence Cameron put together. It’s pretty interesting. Check it out.
Now earlier this week, we posted the “Thanador Chase” sequence, which had first been screened on “Avatar Day” back in August. As I mentioned in that post, the Thanador chase was my second favorite segment of the Avatar Day screening – my top fav was indisputably the “Banshee Flight” sequence that is now featured in this new 10-minute featurette.
In the film, Zoe Saldana’s character, »

Will Jeremy Renner Be Hawkeye?
27 November 2009 8:26 AM, PST
Way back at the end of 2008, there were reports that Iron Man 2 would include and introduce two characters from the comics to the Marvel film universe: Black Widow and Hawkeye.
According to Latino Review last December, they were “told that Hawkeye and Black Widow are definitely in Iron Man 2 and they wont be cameos either.” Well, we know at least half of that is true. As for Hawkeye, we’ve seen or heard absolutely nothing on that character and no actor was signed to play the role… at least that we know of.
In an interview in the latest issue of Empire Magazine however, actor Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, S.W.A.T., 28 Weeks Later) talks on the subject of Hawkeye and the possibility of the character making an appearance in the Marvel movies.
Apparently, Renner was a consideration for the role of Captain America but when he went into »

Thor Updates: Plot Confusion & A Casting Addition
26 November 2009 10:12 PM, PST
From what we’ve been told all along about the Thor movie, it would entirely take place in the mystical Asgardian realm, with only a tiny part of the movie (likely at the end of the film) taking place on Earth.
This has seemingly been the obvious scenario, especially with the plethora of casting decisions made for Asgardian characters in recent weeks including Odin, The Warriors Three and Heimdall.
Strangely enough however, Variety’s article on Tuesday about a recent cast addition (more on that below) contained a sentence reporting that the story of the Thor movie “centers on a partly disabled med student who discovers his Norse god alter ego, the hammer-swinging Thor.”
For those unfamiliar with the comics, this med student goes by the name of Donald Blake who’s Thor’s other identity. Why or how? Well, Thor’s farther Odin wanted to have his son, the God of Thunder, »

‘The Amityville Horror’ Getting Remade… Again?
26 November 2009 3:22 PM, PST
The Amityville Horror is one of those classic horror flicks that just should never have been remade. No, it doesn’t ruin the original per se, as it’s not literally Doing anything to it and you can just ignore the remake and watch the one you know and love all you want. However, it hurts the name as those who only see the remake will wrongfully consider that as The film. Its reputation is forever tainted by a remake that was nowhere near as good as it (personally, I Hated the 2005 remake).
However, did anyone think they would go back to the Amityville remake well again? If anything, I would have thought they’d just make a plain sequel to the 2005 film starring Ryan Reynolds. But that’s not the case: According to sources of our friends at Bloody-Disgusting, the Weinstein Company and Dimension Films are planning yet Another remake of The Amityville Horror, »

Criminal Minds: 100th Episode Review and Discussion
26 November 2009 9:40 AM, PST
After 5 seasons, Criminal Minds has finally reached the episodic milestone of the coveted 100 episode mark. While many series have reached it before, one tends to forget just how many years it takes to reach such a number. As with most series, the 100th episode is usually a special one and Criminal Minds is no different. Criminal Minds celebrated their milestone with the conclusion of their Reaper storyline and boy what an episode it was.
The season premiere in September showed the Reaper causing havoc in the life of Bau leader, Aaron Hotchner, which led him to have his family put into protective custody – but fans knew that the story wouldn’t end there. There had to be a conclusion, but I think it’s safe to say that no one could have guessed the outcome that we saw last night.
The episode was delivered in one of my least favorite »

Ninja Assassin Review
25 November 2009 9:06 PM, PST
Short Version: Ninja Assassin has many flaws; however, the ninjas are not one of them. All of the ninja action in this film is awesome, and for fans of the genre that’s probably enough.
Screen Rant’s Paul Young reviews Ninja Assassin
Ninja Assassin is the first action movie this Fall that delivers on what it promises: Lots of ninja action.
I’m a sucker for a good ninja fight, no matter how choreographed it is. The silent-but-deadly ninja was a huge part of the 80’s action movie sub-culture; since I grew up in the 80’s, I have seen every one that I can get my hands on (yes that includes American Ninja, I, II, III, IV And V). Ninjas doing what they do best (being sneaky) have slowly crept into popular culture over time. Mythbusters did an entire episode on ninja myth and lore and the website AskANinja. »

Ryan Reynolds Talks Deadpool & Green Lantern
25 November 2009 8:22 PM, PST
Two big comic book movies I’m very much looking forward to are Green Lantern and Deadpool and it’s not because of my man-crush on Ryan Reynolds. Well, that’s part of the reason, but these movies will both be pushing the popular and fast-growing genre in new directions and both are attempting to bring an unknown character to mainstream audiences.
Deadpool has a slight advantage, having been introduced and extending off the successful X-Men franchise with his mishandled appearance in this summer’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. While the character was completely misused, it was a blessing in disguise as it allowed Ryan Reynolds to showcase Deadpool’s alter ego Wade Wilson which earned him fan support and the greenlight for his own solo spinoff movie.
Green Lantern on the other hand, doesn’t have that advantage of a pre-introduction. However, it does have the full backing of DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. »

New Daybreakers Trailer is Awesome
25 November 2009 6:37 PM, PST
With the overabundance of vampire-starring or vampire-themed television shows, movies, books and more that we’ve seen surface in recent times, there are a few standouts among them that are unique, offering a fresh (or as fresh as can be) take on the genre.
One such piece of media is the upcoming Michael Spierig & Peter Spierig film, Daybreakers, which takes the perspective of our usual vampires hiding in secrecy from humans and flips it around so that vampires rule the world and the few humans left must fight for their survival while the nocturnal undead scramble to find a substitute for their most precious but limited resource: blood.
Most of our updates on this flick have come in the form of posters that we’ve shared in our weekly Screen Rant Poster Friday features over the last few months. Now,we have a new Daybreakers trailer for you to enjoy »

First Official Pics From ‘Jonah Hex’ & ‘The Losers’
25 November 2009 4:59 PM, PST
For some reason, this week has been filled with new photos from some highly anticipated movies: we’ve already had an amazing new Iron Man 2 image; our first image from Shrek Forever After; and a look at a toy figure of the new Freddy Krueger from the Nightmare on Elm Street remake.
To continue today’s trend, some new images have been released for two comic book adaptations, the dark Western, Jonah Hex, and the Special Forces team movie, The Losers. Both are definitely on my most anticipated list, so it’s nice to see some new pics from them – in fact, as far as we know they are the first official ones from each movie.
Jonah Hex is a dark and gritty Western comic book adaptation directed by Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears a Who!) and starring Josh Brolin, Megan Fox and John Malkovich. It’s based »

Lobo Screen Test Filmed
25 November 2009 1:53 PM, PST
In a recent interview with Collider, super-producer Joel Silver (The Matrix) let it be known that a screen test has been filmed for Guy Ritchie’s upcoming adaptation of DC Comics’ Lobo, which Warner Bros. currently has in the pipeline.
I’ll be providing two versions of Silver’s comments: you can either watch them on video (you’ll have to wade through some references to Ninja Assassin to get to the meaty bits) – or you can simply read over a few choice quotes from the interview. Either way, you should certainly stick around to hear what I think afterward!
Here are the quotes from Silver:
“I was looking at a test we made [for Lobo] and I was seeing it through the eyes of [the San Diego] Comic-Con — through the eyes of that audience. It’s important to know that that audience is the biggest in the world. That’s the audience that you want to get. »

First Good Look at Elm Street’s New Freddy Krueger
25 November 2009 12:37 PM, PST
After much speculation and spending many hours in Photoshop trying to tweak still images from the trailer, we finally get a good look at what Freddy Krueger will look like in the remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street. Although, the funny thing is that it’s not coming from New Line, but from… a toy?
The folks over at Figure.com sat down with Neca’s (National Entertainment Collectibles Association) Head of Product Development, Randy Falk, to talk about all things regarding adult collectibles (that’s what I call them to justify my purchases to my girlfriend) and Mr. Falk not only had some tidbits about the upcoming figures based on the Nightmare remake, he just so happened to have a picture of one as well.
Really, New Line? We’ve been trying to get a good look at Freddy forever and you’re telling me that the only »

Shrek Forever After Synopsis & First Image
25 November 2009 12:11 PM, PST
Ever since Dreamworks Animation announced their line-up for 2009-2012 earlier this year, there seems to have been a distinct lack of info coming out about arguably their biggest upcoming film, the fourth installment in the highly successful Shrek franchise, this time entitled Shrek Forever After (previously Shrek Goes Fourth). More focus has been placed on the spin-off film, Puss In Boots, particularly with voice star Antonio Banderas giving us some insight into what characters will appear in the movie, etc…
However, today, thanks to USA Today, we have our first look at Shrek Forever After, as well as the first in-depth synopsis of the film. Unfortunately the image isn’t high-res, or even that big of a size, but it nonetheless give us our first look at the film which may or may not be highly-anticipated after the critical failure that was Shrek the Third. Here’s the synopsis, as »

Ninja Assassin Red-Band Trailer
25 November 2009 8:54 AM, PST
One of the noticeable things about most of the stuff we’ve seen from Ninja Assassin so far is the lack of explicit blood-spilling. The movie still looks badass, but I’ve been wondering if it has been toned-down for the trailers, to be viewable by a more general audience.
Well, with this latest red-band trailer blood splatter has ceased to be a worry. This is one helluva of a bloody trailer (not Hostel bloody, but still…), and shows that we’re in for a full-on ride when the movie hits theaters (which is today, actually). Before we move onto the red-band trailer, here’s a little reminder for those of you who may not be familiar with what Ninja Assassin is about:
Ninja Assassin follows Raizo (Rain), one of the deadliest assassins in the world. Taken from the streets as a child, he was transformed into a trained killer by the Ozunu Clan, »

Iron Man 2 Armor Graces Empire Magazine Cover
25 November 2009 8:13 AM, PST
Way back in April we got our first official look at the highly-anticipated comic book sequel, Iron Man 2, in the form of an image of Tony Stark (a.k.a. Iron Man) in what appears to be his “Hall of Armor” room. From then on we’ve slowly and surely been getting more looks at the superhero sequel, from Mickey Rourke as villain Whiplash, to Scarlet Johansson as the Black Widow.
Everything has looked great so far, and that trend continues with this latest image, courtesy of the guys over at Empire.
Empire has an exclusive new image of Tony Stark in the famous red and gold suit as the center-piece of their January 2010 cover. On top of the awesomeness of seeing the Iron Man suit in all its high quality glory (do you really need more than that? ), there’s also some hinting at the film’s villain, »

Funnier Trailer For Family Guy ‘Empire Strikes Back’ Parody
25 November 2009 7:59 AM, PST
About a week or so ago I posted a teaser trailer for “Something, Something, Something, Darkside”, which is Family Guy’s newest spoof of the Star Wars Trilogy, this time lampooning the happenings of Empire Strikes Back.
I lot of you were happy to see Family Guy doing a follow-up to their hilarious 2007 Star Wars parody, “Blue Harvest”, but thought that the teaser trailer was a bit disappointing in terms of laugh out loud moments.
Well I’m happy to report that there is now a full trailer for “Something, Something, Something Darkside”, and it really does bring the laughs.
What was missing from the teaser trailer that is included here are those sly, knowing little winks that Family Guy provides on just about any topic imaginable. Of course, there is plenty of raunchy humor as well (never fear, my low-brow friends), along with plenty of Family Guy inside jokes. »

Silver Surfer Movie (Sort of) Happening [Updated]
25 November 2009 4:42 AM, PST
[Update: Silver Surfer isn't as dead as first reported. See post for details.]
The last significant update we heard on the proposed Silver Surfer movie was last summer when director Alex Proyas said he’s definitely not working on the project, emphasizing that he’d never work with Fox studios again.
Since then, we have found out that Fox is pushing forward with the Fantastic Four reboot and that it would feature an entirely new cast. What does that mean for the Silver Surfer spin-off many were hoping for? Well, it’s unlikely to happen anytime soon.
Writer J. Michael Straczynski recently spoke with Collider last week and touched on the subject, saying that the not-so-hot reception to Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer made the studio put plans for the Silver Surfer character on hold.
Straczynski’s script has been done for a while and is in the hands of Fox, however it’s tied into the last Fantastic Four movie »
