New pics from 'Nightmare on Elm Street' remake

Warner Bros. just released three new photos from Samuel Bayer's upcoming horror remake "A Nightmare on Elm Street," which will make its way to theaters April 30, 2010. Check them out above and below.

Jackie Earle Haley plays Freddy Krueger, the ruthless killer who sneaks into people's dreams and kills them while they're sleeping. Rooney Mara, Kyle Gallner, Thomas Dekker and Kellan Lutz co-star.

A first trailer debuted back in September, and although it failed ot impress me, I admit I am quite excited to see Haley take over this role. He's just the right guy to play Krueger. See the trailer here. »

International teaser poster for 'Iron Man 2'

Earlier this week we got a good look at the first teaser poster for Jon Favreau's upcoming sequel "Iron Man 2," and now, Empire has released the international poster for the film that opens May 7, 2010.

International posters are often a tad more exciting than the domestic versions, but this one certainly isn't. To tell you the truth, I'm a bit disappointed. Check out the much better, more original U.S. poster here.

Robert Downey Jr. returns as Tony Stark, and he's got his hands full in "Iron Man 2." Don Cheadle stars as War Machine, Sam Rockwell plays Justin Hammer, and Mickey Rourke plays Whiplash. »

As you may know already, Justin Timberlake is playing Facebook co-founder Sean Parker in David Fincher's upcoming "The Social Network," a film that may attract more than 300 million fans and friends.

Of course, that is if every user of the social networking site ends up seeing the film. The Daily Mail recently posted a set photo of Timberlake in the role of Parker, and you can check it out below.

It's not necessarily an exciting shot, no, but it gives you a good first look at, well... Timberlake's look in the film written by Aaron Sorkin. "Social Network" is scheduled to open in 2010.

Jesse Eisenberg will slip into the role of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, while Andrew Garfield is set to play Eduardo Saverin, one of the site's co-founders. Are you addicted to facebooking? Share below. »

First official 'Deathly Hallows' image debuts!

Earlier this year, we got a first but rather lame first look at Daniel Radcliffe in David Yates upcoming "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I," which is slated for a Nov. 19. 2010 release.

The folks at USA Today now provided the first official photo from the first part of the last "Harry Potter" flick, and you can see it above. It's not exactly a compelling shot. Ron seems much taller though, no?

Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Brendan Gleeson, Helena Bonham Carter and Alan Rickman return in the sequel, and as you know, "Deathly Hallows" will be divided in two parts, with No. 2 opening July 15, 2011. »

2 December 2009 10:49 AM, PST

Keith Arem, director of popular video games such as "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2," has signed on to make his feature film debut with "Frost Road," an action thriller he also wrote.

Details are sketchy, but the plot will follow a group of survivors and victims of an invisible disease that takes over a small coastal Eastern town, this according to the Hollywood Reporter.

"I'm extremely excited about this story and thrilled to have the opportunity to bring the skills I've honed in the game industry to the big screen," Arem told THR. Good for him.

Arem's credits as video game director also include "Call of Duty 3" and its predecessors, "WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007," "Prince of Persia: Warrior Within" and "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2." »

'Zombieland 2' and 'Jackass 3' coming in 3D

2 December 2009 10:47 AM, PST

3D is taking over Hollywood; that's not a secret anymore. With recent 3D films proving to be box office successes, more and more upcoming films will hit the big screen to make use of the new technique.

Sony is currently developing a 3D sequel to "Zombieland," Ruben Fleischer's excellent horror comedy that brought in $75 million domestically. Fleischer is returning to direct, according to Variety.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are already writing the script, and Sony is also trying to bring back Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg. I hope they bring back Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin as well. »

Summit to develop 'Alibi' comic adaptation

2 December 2009 10:41 AM, PST

Summit Entertainment has officially boarded the big-screen adaptation of Top Cow's comicbook "Alibi," which Mandeville has picked up the rights to earlier this year. The studio has also found a writer.

John Hlavin will take a stab at the screenplay. He just recently signed to write "Underworld 4" for Screen Gems. His credits include "The Shield" and "Trust Me," and he's also working on Warner's "Gunslinger."

As far as "Alibi" goes, the story follows a socialite whose status serves as a solid alibi for his twin brother, a government assassin. "Alibi" was created by Matt Hawkins, Michael Renegar and Joshua Hale Fialkov. »

Paul Greengrass won't do fourth 'Bourne' film

30 November 2009 11:43 PM, PST

I love Paul Greengrass' films, and I was looking forward to him helming another "Bourne" flick, but according to The Playlist, the filmmaker won't return to direct another Jason Bourne installment. Bummer.

The project is quite messy, apparently, as two scripts are circling around and nothing has been decided on yet. George Nolfi wrote one, and Joshua Zetumer wrote another one, but no one consulted Greengrass.

The Playlist also points out that Greengrass' upcoming action flick "Green Zone" cost way much more money Universal wanted to spend. This could be another reason for his departure. He's too expensive. »

30 November 2009 11:42 PM, PST

Tom Cavanagh has officially boarded Eric Brevig's upcoming "Yogi Bear" film for Warner Bros. He's joining Anna Faris, Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake. The film is currently shooting in New Zealand.

Variety says Cavanagh will play Ranger Smith in the mix of CGI and live-action. Brad Copeland wrote the script. Cavanagh's Smith finds himself drawn romantically to Faris' role of a documentary filmmaker.

Aykroyd voices Yogi, and Timberlake lends his voice to Boo-Boo, Yogi's partner in crime. Cavanagh's credits include "Ed," "Trust Me," "Eli Stone," "Scrubs" and "How to Eat Fried Worms." »

First 'The Karate Kid' remake images roll in

30 November 2009 11:08 PM, PST

Columbia Pictures is currently making an unnecessary remake of "The Karate Kid," and the first pictures from the upcoming adventure have surface on the Web. Check out some of them above and below.

The film, a remake of John G. Avildsen’s 1984 version, follows a bullied boy (Jaden Smith) who learns all there is to know about karate with the help of an enthusiastic mentor (Jackie Chan).

The original “Karate Kid” was followed by three sequels. As terrible as this may sound, we'll probably see more remakes if this one ends up scoring big at the box office. I hope that won't happen though. »

"Iron Man 2," the anticipated sequel to "Iron Man," won't open in theaters until May 7, 2010, but a first poster for the action flick has just now hit the Web, courtesy of the folks at Yahoo! Movies.

It's only a first one-sheet, but it's already badass, don't you think? Iron Man himself looks great, and this poster also gives you a first look at the mean War Machine, a role played by Don Cheadle.

So, what do you think? Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Sam Rockwell (Justin Hammer), Mickey Rourke (Whiplash), Samuel L. Jackson, Kate Mara, Clark Gregg, and Gwyneth Paltrow co-star in the sequel. »

30 November 2009 10:53 AM, PST

John Carpenter is currently working on his upcoming thriller "The Ward," and the folks at Dread Central spotted a new promo image for the film, which stars Amber Heard and Danielle Panabaker.

As you can see above, Heard looks a bit messy and alarmed in the pic. She plays Kristen, a beautiful but troubled young woman who finds herself held against her will in a remote ward of a psychiatric hospital.

Kristen quickly realizes things are not as they seem. The air is heavy with secrets, and at night, when the hospital is dark and foreboding, she hears strange and frightening sounds. It appears they are not alone. »

Paramount gets 'Paranormal' director's next

29 November 2009 4:35 PM, PST

Paramount Pictures scored a solid deal with Oren Peli's surprise horror hit "Paranormal Activity," and the studio has now acquired the distribution rights for the filmmaker's next low-budget project, "Area 51."

"Activity" cost less than $15,000 to make, but it grossed more than $100 million in the U.S. alone. "Area 51," according to Peter Bart and Michael Fleming, cost about $5 million. Peli wrote and directed the pic.

"51" tells the story of three teenagers who experience scary things when they reach Area 51 at the Nellis Air Force Base in the Nevada desert. The film will follow the same style and structure of "Paranormal." »
