Brand New Trailer For Carrie Remake Hits Hard!!

4 April 2013 5:23 PM, PDT

Remakes. Some are decent, some are great, some are downright bad. Everything under the sun is being remade these days, and it seems like that trend isn’t going away anytime soon, so I guess we can all just hope for the best. Stephen King’s debut novel Carrie was first adapted to the screen by Brian De Palma in 1976, and has had a couple of really bad sequels/sub-par TV remakes since then.

Coming this October, MGM/Screen Gems will release their brand new Carrie remake, directed by Kimberly Pierce and starring Chloe Grace Moretz (Kickass, Let Me In) and Julianne Moore (Children Of Men, Hannibal). Judging from the trailer that hit the internet today, it looks pretty promising. What do you Fright Fiends think?

Icons Firsts: The Evil Dead (1981)

4 April 2013 12:37 AM, PDT

A while back, the Icons Of Fright team talked about the first time each of us experienced 1984′s A Nightmare On Elm Street (Here). To coincide with the release of the Fede Alvarez-directed remake of Sam Raimi’s classic 1981 film The Evil Dead, the team decided to once again spill our guts, this time regarding our first experiences with Raimi’s masterpiece of a film. Read on!

Rob G: Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn is my favorite movie of all time. No, believe it or not, it’s not Psycho, although that comes in a very close second. It’s Evil Dead 2. And by saying that, I’m not acknowledging or stating that Sam Raimi’s remake/sequel hybrid to his classic horror flick ‘The Evil Dead‘ is the best acted, best scripted, best directed movie ever; it’s just in terms of sheer entertainment value my personal favorite. »

Fright Exclusive Interview With Mondo Poster Artist Jay Shaw!!

3 April 2013 5:39 PM, PDT

Poster artist Jay Shaw has already made a name for himself by creating some of the coolest prints for Mondo, Gallery 1988 and more than a handful of other studios. While a lot of other artists feel the need to throw every single detail of a film into their posters, Shaw’s style is a very unique one, typically focusing on an identifiable object from the film, and working from there.

By far my favorite artist working today, Jaw’s posters are plastered across my walls at home, and it’d be an accurate statement to say that I was pretty stoked to spend a little bit of time speaking with Jay regarding his work with Mondo & Gallery 1988, how he got into poster design, and some of his favorite horror films. Read on!

Creepy as Hell “Goat Walking” Clip from The Lords Of Salem Makes its Debut!!

3 April 2013 12:57 PM, PDT

A brand new clip from Rob Zombie’s upcoming film The Lords Of Salem has found its way online, and while it doesn’t really explain much about the film, it does successfully creep the hell out you. Peoples’ opinions have been split on the film, some love it, some hate it, so find out which you fall into when it’s released in a limited theatrical (major cities like Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, etc) and VOD engagement beginning April 19th via Anchor Bay.

“From the singular mind of horror maestro Rob Zombie comes a chilling plunge into a nightmare world where evil runs in the blood. The Lords of Salem tells the tale of Heidi (Sheri Moon Zombie), a radio station DJ living in Salem, Massachusetts, who receives a strange wooden box containing a record, a “gift from the Lords.” Heidi listens, and the bizarre sounds within the »

Can You Survive The Night? Trailer & Poster For The Purge!

3 April 2013 11:57 AM, PDT

Before Insidious: Chapter II & Paranormal Activity 5 hit, Blumhouse has The Purge (once titled Vigilandia) coming our way. Today the poster & trailer dropped, and apart from looking like a blatant, high-concept remake of The Strangers (also distributed by Universal) , it’s looking pretty cool.

Also of note, this is Platinum Dunes’ first non-remake genre film since their truly atrocious stab at A Nightmare On Elm Street. I know plenty of horror fans that cringe at the mention of Michael Bay’s production company, so your mileage may vary here.

The Purge opens May 31st, 2013.

Synopsis: “If on one night every year, you could commit any crime without facing consequences, what would you do? In The Purge, a speculative thriller that follows one family over the course of a single night, four people will be tested to see how far they will go to protect themselves when the vicious outside world breaks into their home. »

Fright Exclusive Interview With A Nightmare on Elm Street 4′s Tuesday Knight!!

2 April 2013 3:53 PM, PDT

In my opinion, A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master was always one of the better sequels in the Elm Street saga. It was when the series hit its creative peak, due to the genius directing of Renny Harlin (Prison, Deep Blue Sea, Die Hard 2), the always entertaining performance of Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger, and the addition of a fresh set of Elm Street kids. One of those kids, Kristen, was played by Tuesday Knight, who took over the role originated in A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors by Patricia Arquette. Call me crazy, but I’ve always thought that Knight did a superior job as Kristen, and though her time in the film wasn’t as long as some of the others, she added more to the character that I found to be one-dimensional in The Dream Warriors.

Science Gone Wrong in The Errors Of The Human Body Trailer Debut!!

2 April 2013 1:03 PM, PDT

I’m a huge fan of David Cronenberg, and the type of body-horror that a lot of his films have the angle of. So after seeing the trailer for Eron Sheean’s Errors Of The Human Body, I was instantly enthralled by it. It has that Cronenberg feeling, without seeming to rip it off. Definitely looks pretty good, and having Michael Eklund (The Call, The Divide) as the lead is always a good choice in my book. Check it out!

“Following divorce from his wife and the loss of his son to a rare genetic mutation, Canadian geneticist Geoff Burton relocates to the harsh, wintry scenery of Dresden, Germany to work on groundbreaking new project that might just be his key to redemption. When teamed up with his former intern and colleague Rebekka, he starts working on a human regenerative gene with direct ties to his personal tragedy, yet matters »

Movie Review: Kiss Of The Damned!!

1 April 2013 12:05 AM, PDT

Vampires should not be sparkly teenagers full of angst and awkwardness, at least not in my opinion. Somewhere in the last few years, all of the elements that made the vampire character so damn appealing, have been sucked up and recycled into the current trend of whatever passes for bloodsuckers these days. The same could be said for zombies, werewolves and many other creatures that were once mysterious, dangerous, and downright sexy. Our beloved horror creatures have become household objects that are not only safe for the whole family, but are only watered down remnants of the scary as hell creatures that growing up, made me smile.

Luckily, that mysterious and gorgeously sexy approach to vampires is set for a return, in Xan Cassavetes’s Kiss Of The Damned. It’s a sexually charged and beautifully shot tale of love, death and a bloody as hell rivalry between two vampire sisters. »

Exploitation Alley: Chopping Mall!!

31 March 2013 5:47 PM, PDT

For this week’s Exploitation Alley, I wanted to go with a movie that I really liked. I didn’t want to watch something for the first time, or just stumble across something on Netflix. So, after deciding that it would be a familiar movie, I looked through my collection and kept asking myself, “what would fun to write about?”. I had recently just watched Scream Factory’s amazing bluray release of From Beyond, so the awesome as hell Barbara Crampton was still fresh in my mind, so it dawned on me, Chopping Mall! I hadn’t watched it in a while, so I figured, what better genre movie than that? With Exploitation Alley, I try not to be contained to a specific time period, I like to write about genre films throughout every era, and what sums up exploitation more than a mall, killer robots and boobs? So, grab your shopping bags, »
