Hugh Jackman Trading in Claws for Torture Tool in 'Prisoners'?

In a casting call for Warner Bros. Pictures' Prisoners, the Valley Independent reports that Hugh Jacksman (X-Men, Wolverine) might have been cast in the film being directed by Antoine Fuqua. "Local officials said theyve been told Hugh Jackman is attached to the movie." We'll let you know when the news is officially announced. Aaron Guzikowski's screenplay for Prisoners is considered a hot commodity and was named one of the best unproduced scripts of 2009. Guzikowski's dark tale centers on a small-town man who, after his daughter and her friend are kidnapped and the cops fail to solve the crime, takes matters into his own hands, holding hostage the person he suspects committed the crime. He also comes into conflict with the big-city detective assigned to the case. …

16 December 2009 9:49 PM, PST

Prtety cool concept, I just don't know how munch faith I have in Cornwell after the epic fail that was Connecticut. The plan is to put it into production next year. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian will produce and Rosenberg will be exec producer. Lionsgate acquired the project as a spec, and will finance the film and control worldwide rights. …

'Diner' Hosts Vampire and Werewolf vs Zombies

16 December 2009 8:20 PM, PST

DreamWorks Animation has set Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris to write Gil's All Night Fright, an adaptation of the A. Lee Martinez novel that has Barry Sonnenfeld attached to direct. The scribes previously received story credit on DreamWorks Animation's "Kung Fu Panda." The writers also originated the Ridley Scott-directed "Robin Hood" as a spec script that was subsequently rewritten by Brian Helgeland, and they were exec producers and writers on the Showtime drama series "Sleeper Cell." Much like the "Twilight" series, "Gil's All Fright Diner" revolves around a vampire and a werewolf. Here, they are mismatched partners who battle zombies and try to save the world, after they stop in a diner in the desert that is a conduit for the supernatural. We liked the odd couple aspect of the story, this vampire and werewolf who team to save the world from an ancient demon and his modern ally, …

Eisner Telepathically Sinks in with 'The Brood'

15 December 2009 11:15 AM, PST

While the La Times was reporting on Breck Eisner's exit from Universal's Creature from the Black Lagoon remake, they also revealed that he has officially signed on to The Brood, a (completely unnecessary) remake of the David Cronenberg horror flick about a woman who telepathically communicates with her group of mutant children, instructing them to act out violently (one of my all-time favorite flicks). Eisner's on board to direct the new version, which is written by Cory Goodman for financier Spyglass Entertainment. Eisner's The Crazies remake arrives in theaters this coming February. Carl Erik Rinsch will now direct Creature From The Black Lagoon for Universal. …

15 December 2009 9:32 AM, PST

On January 8th you're going to find out what happens when a vampire doesn't get his regular dose of that warm creamy red goodness known as blood. In Peter and Michael Spierig's Daybreakers there's a severe undead-threatening shortage of blood. What would a pale-skinned demon from hell do if there wan't any available? Obviously they'd drink from each other. The result? The creation of maniacal, bat-like creatures known simply as "Subsiders". Today Bloody Disgusting has your exclusive look at the brand new outdoor ad for Lionsgate's R-rated (yes, it's super gory) vamp film that features a creepy look at one of these "Subsiders". You can see these Subsiders hanging upside down in wildpostings all over the country!! Check it out below, what do you guys think? It would catch my eye in a theater, that's for sure. …

'Creature from the Black Lagoon' Taps New Director for Revival

14 December 2009 10:39 PM, PST

I've been dreaming of a big budget Creature From The Black Lagoon ever since it was rumored all of those years ago. While it looks like the creature (finally) may rise once again, I'm fearful that if The Wolfman tanks, so will this project. And if Wolfman is a terrible movie, what does that mean for our beloved Creature if the same studio is behind it? I shutter to think about it. Let's not get ahead of ourselves, who knows what the future holds, and Universal has hired a new director to replace Breck Eisner. Universal Pictures is in early talks with Carl Erik Rinsch to direct Creature From The Black Lagoon, the remake of the 1954 U film about an undersea creature that terrorizes a scientific expedition. Strike Entertainments Marc Abraham and Eric Newman produce with Gary Ross. …
