We’ve seen it time and time again, a historical film fostering newfound interest in its subject matter. Just earlier this year, Michael Mann’s crime epic, Public Enemies (now out on DVD) put the spotlight on 30s gangster John Dillinger (Johnny Depp) increasing public fascination with the criminal’s grave site; while in the autumn, culinary comedy/ drama Julie & Julia encouraged people to re-discover 60s celebrity chef, Julia Child (played by Meryl Streep) and have a go at recreating her mouthwatering dishes. And now we have a new biopic, namely Amelia, the story of pioneering aviator Amelia Earhart (an eerily similar-looking, Hilary Swank) which looks likely to bang the drum for the fearless flyer, and hoping to maximise on this new appetite for Amelia is Purdue University, which hosts the world’s largest collection of Earhart mementoes. …
