Bryan Callen, a standup comedian and star of ABC’s “The Goldbergs,” has been accused of sexual assault and misconduct by four women in a report published by the Los Angeles Times.
Callen is alleged to have raped Katherine Fiore Tigerman, an actor and comedian whose credits include the TBS series “Wedding Band,” in 1999. Another woman, Rachel Green, alleges that Callen tried to force himself on her during an encounter which took place in an American Apparel fitting room in 2009.
The most recent allegation is from 2017 when Tiffany King, a comedian who previously performed at the same club as Callen, alleges that he offered her stage time and money in exchange for sexual favors.
Callen is best known for playing high school gym teacher Rick Mellor in “The Goldbergs” and more prominently in its recently-canceled spinoff series “Schooled.” Sources close to “The Goldbergs” say that Callen will not appear in...

“Schooled” is changing showrunners again. ABC gave the sophomore “Goldbergs” spinoff series a back-nine order Tuesday, and announced that Tom Hertz (“Rules of Engagement”)and Vanessa McCarthy (“Modern Family”) will be showrunners for the rest of Season 2.
They replace “The Kids Are Alright” creator Tim Doyle, who helmed the first 13 episodes of Season 2 and left due to creative differences, according to a person close to production. Before Doyle, co-creator Marc Firek was the showrunner for Season 1.
“We’re incredibly proud of ‘Schooled’ and are thrilled to order a full season of this sharp, fresh and funny comedy that has proven to be a consistently strong pairing with its ‘Goldbergs’ lead-in,” said Karey Burke, president of ABC Entertainment. “We’re so grateful to the show’s top-notch cast and crew, and we’re looking forward to bringing more hilarious stories about the teachers and students at William Penn Academy to our viewers.

ABC has given a Back 9 order to comedy series Schooled, bringing its sophomore run to a full-season 22 episodes. As part of the pickup, Tom Hertz and Vanessa McCarthy have been named new showrunners of The Goldbergs spinoff, from Sony TV Studios and ABC Studios. They replace Tim Doyle, who has left over creative differences.
Doyle joined as showrunner at the start of Season 2, replacing Marc Firek, who co-created Schooled with The Goldbergs creator Adam F. Goldberg and ran it during its freshman season.
Schooled was the last remaining broadcast series awaiting word on a back order. As a midseason entry last season, it had been renewed for a second season with a 13-episode initial order. Its full-season pickup never was in doubt; it just was delayed until series’ producers Sony TV and ABC Studios locked in a new showrunner. While he continues as an active executive producer on both The Goldbergs,...

For those who are curious, Schooled is a sitcom that couldn’t have existed without The Goldbergs because it is a spinoff of said show. In short, reports came out by November of 2016 that ABC had started looking into the potential for a spinoff centered on the recurring character Rick Mellor. However, it had been revealed by May of 2017 that ABC had made the choice to pass on the spinoff even though its pilot had tested better than the pilot for The Goldbergs. However, that wasn’t the end of things, as shown by the fact that the pilot of

As a spinoff of ABC’s long-running ’80s comedy “The Goldbergs,” “Schooled” had a surprisingly rough time getting greenlit by the network. Persistence eventually paid off, but unfortunately, the result isn’t worth the wait. The mildly charming but confusing show that airs Wednesday is a clear result of its long and messy path to the airwaves.
“Schooled” began as glint in co-creators Adam F. Goldberg and Marc Firek’s eyes in November 2016 when they developed the idea for the spinoff, which eventually was ordered to pilot. ABC officially passed on the pilot in May 2017, but after much urging by Goldberg, the network agreed to air it as a backdoor pilot in January 2018, midway through Season 5 as a special episode of “The Goldbergs.” The episode performed on par with the rest of the season.
