Four decades after her feature debut in 1983’s BMX Bandits, Oscar and two-time Emmy winner Nicole Kidman is set to receive a history-making honor: the AFI Life Achievement Award, which for the first time in 49 years will go to an Australian performer. But the (American-born) Kidman considers herself a part of world cinema, having worked with such renowned filmmakers as Stanley Kubrick (Eyes Wide Shut), Jane Campion (The Portrait of a Lady), Park Chan-wook (Stoker), Sofia Coppola (The Beguiled), Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge!) and Jonathan Glazer (Birth). The actress and producer reflects on how the honor represents both a robust career and a life well traveled.
You’ve received many awards throughout your career. What is so special about this honor?
The list of honorees that have come before me. I’m floored, actually, because there are so few, and there are no Australians. I was overwhelmed by it.

While the live-action Marvel Universe is dominated by the Avengers, Marvel comics have had a different character hierarchy. The entire multiverse seemed to revolve around the stories of the X-Men as a whole and while the Avengers were important, they simply weren’t as significant as the mutants. They were the reason for the success of the franchise and the culturally significant impact it has had over decades.
X-Men (2000)
It would seem, that effect does not get brushed past by anyone, as the showrunner of X-Men ’97 revealed an interesting theory he has about the live-action universe that Marvel has created. One that suggests that none of the MCU projects, Sam Rami’s Spider-Man films, and even DC projects would have been successful or existed had it not been for one animated Marvel show.

Richard Roxburgh, Felix Kammerer, Toby Wallace, Paul Gleeson, Ignacio Gasparini and Nicholas Denton join a cast that includes previously announced stars Jude Law, Vanessa Kirby, Sydney Sweeney, Ana de Armas and Daniel Brühl.
The film is based on real-life events and hails from Tetris scribe Noah Pink.
“Based on an unsolved mystery that unfolded on a remote island in the Galapagos, Eden is a provocative and surprising survival thriller about the lengths we will go in pursuit of happiness,” reads the logline for the film.
Howard will produce with Brian Grazer and Karen Lunder for Imagine Entertainment. Also producing are AGC Studios’ Stuart Ford, as well as Bill Connor and Patrick Newall.

More Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman? Crikey, yes! The Aussie stars get an expanded turn as passionate lovers in lauded film director Baz Luhrmann’s reimagining of his 2008 WW2-era epic Australia. The Oscar-nominated director added about an hour of footage from the original shoot to make six compelling chapters of Faraway Downs that drop simultaneously on Hulu November 26. The tale is told by a mixed-race Aboriginal boy, Nullah (Brandon Walters) who lives at the remote Faraway Downs cattle station. His life changes with the visit of proper British Lady Sarah Ashley (Kidman). She’s compelled by an unexpected tragedy to stay on and help the rugged Drover (Jackman), known only by his job title, herd the livestock to sell in Darwin. Cue adventures galore. Below, Luhrmann answers our questions about the scenes he was happiest to see rescued from the cutting room floor, Kidman and Jackman’s chemistry, the importance of Nullah’s character,...

Stars: Roberto Scorza, Alex D’Alascio, Daniele Arturi | Written and Directed by Poison Rouge, Domiziano Cristopharo
Taking its title from the 61 names found in a notebook when he was arrested, 61: Scorecard Killer is based rather loosely on the crimes of Randy Kraft. Kraft was convicted of the rape and murder of sixteen young men and is suspected of fifty-one other killings. Kraft was arrested in 1983 after police pulled him over for a suspected DUI and found a dead body in his car’s passenger seat.
The biggest difference between fact and fiction is that directors Poison Rouge and Domiziano Cristopharo have updated the film to the present day. We see this right away in the prelude, as Randy, uses his smartphone to print out photos of murder victims to post on his wall and dance naked in front of.
And this is as good a time as any to mention...

This article contains spoilers for Doom Patrol season 4 episode 12.
After four seasons, the fan-favorite DC Comics superhero series Doom Patrol has come to an end, signaling the end of an era for superhero programming on Max. The final season saw the misfit superhero team talk on multiple apocalyptic threats while continuing to find their humanity amidst their respectively monstrous transformations. In typical Doom Patrol fashion, this superhero action and emotional introspection is punctuated with raunchy, irreverent humor, even a full-on musical episode before the end credits roll on the series finale.
Here is how the Doom Patrol series finale resolves its final battle, leaves each of its main characters, and provides the Max original series with a surprisingly emotional send-off, both triumphant and thoroughly bittersweet by the end.

Everything about Doom Patrol Season 4 Episode 12 holds true to the style and messaging of the series.
For a run of forty-six episodes that time traveled, invaded the Afterlife, and rewrote reality multiple times, it is a surprisingly cohesive series that manages to maintain its focus on the team, its members, and the lessons they learn as they strive to be the heroes they never asked to be.
Cliff would call it f*ckin' corny, but it's genuinely hard to say goodbye to this ragtag misfit bunch of bad luck bags. And yet, letting them each find their peace feels incredibly right.
Of course, they have to get past Immortus/Isabel and the Butts, and, in typical Doomie fashion, the most absurd solution proves the key.
What does an egomaniacal spotlight hog like Isabel Feathers need? An ensemble chorus of choreography-obsessed theater-kid Butts, of course!
While it's unlikely anyone could've predicted the Shipoopy/Possibilities mash-up number,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Doom Patrol series finale.] Well, that seemed like a definite ending to Doom Patrol… for some of the characters, at least. The Max Original ended with Cliff (Brendan Fraser) dying, Rita (April Bowlby) in the afterlife, Larry (Matt Bomer) and Rama (Sendhil Ramamurthy) becoming the new sun (as the penultimate episode teased), Jane (Diane Guerrero) figuring things out and the entire underground now existing all at once as Kay as she joins Casey (Madeline Zima) in traveling in the spaceship, Vic (Joivan Wade) Cyborg 2.0 and helping Deric (Elijah Rashad Reed) with his class, and Rouge (Michelle Gomez) burning down the Ant Farm. Showrunner Jeremy Carver takes us inside the finale below. When we spoke about the musical episode, you said that this finale is the end of a chapter. So at what point in the series did you realize you wanted this chapter to end with the Doom Patrol going...

As the series nears its final curtain call, Doom Patrol Season 4 Episode 11 examines and addresses the team's individual challenges while pulling some top-shelf time travel shenanigans.
The most satisfying element is Jane's reunion with the alt personas of the Underground and Kay. Jane's last session ever with Niles even connects a few dots that have been drifting in space since the first season.
The return of Timothy Dalton as Niles Caulder, aka The Chief, is the most obvious signpost that this truly is the end. His scenes throughout the team's Time Stream adventures provide a lot of closure. It's just too bad Dorothy couldn't have been part of that.
Predictably, looking for Immortus's longevity skin tag without having to contend with Immortus involves dealing with Niles in various phases of his life.
Cliff gets to tangle with the earliest version of The Chief, and it's a doozy of an encounter.

You know a show's getting ready to bow out when the musical episode lands.
However, in this case, Doom Patrol Season 4 Episode 9 manages to impress with some catchy tunes while maintaining their trademark humor.
Power ballads interrupted by golden showers, ensemble dance pieces featuring sex ghosts, and seeing Larry and Rama in full tails just goes to show the Doom Patrol wouldn't know subtle if it came in riding a were-Butt.
The most compelling internal conflict is between Rouge's desire to let Rita be happy and her internal compass for truth.
In a perfect world, Bendy and Laura could meet again with their memories wiped, and no evidence would ever crop up to disturb their bestie-level friendship.
Unfortunately, Rouge insists on serving penance for the wrongs she's committed and is compelled to thwart Isabel/Immortus's intention to turn the world into its devoted zealots.
I have to wonder how...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Doom Patrol Season 4 Episode 9, “Immortimas Patrol.”] Unsurprisingly, Doom Patrol pulls off a musical episode that’s not only very entertaining but also, to use showrunner and executive producer Jeremy Carver‘s own term, “indelicate” at times — and full of catchy songs. In other words, everything you love about this weird and wild show? This episode takes it up to another level and somehow makes it better. It all stems from Immortus (Charity Cervantes) creating an alternate reality in which she’s constantly adored (Immortimas Day is celebrated every day). Rouge (Michelle Gomez) is the first to realize something’s off; then she clues the others — Larry (Matt Bomer), Cliff (Brendan Fraser), Jane (Diane Guerrero), Vic (Joivan Wade), and Rita (April Bowlby) — in. Some are less willing to leave behind what seems like a better world, but by the end, they are back in their reality. “We hope a lot of...

A relatively graphic documentary about charismatic Italian swingers should probably elicit more than a tepid shrug, right?
But for all its telling — and showing — of sex, “Bloom Up” never really gets going until its final few minutes. And that late-stage twist occurs during the rare scene in which everyone is fully clothed.
The movie’s middle-aged protagonists, Betta and Hermes, couldn’t be more likable. They’re charming, eloquent, and appear to be madly in love. Despite the fact that they’ve been together for years, they flirt happily while stocking shelves at the pet store they own, defer to each other respectfully in frank conversations for the camera, and share a sensitive dedication to their open marriage that seems to lack even a hint of defensiveness.
