Netflix is no stranger to bringing iconic video game adaptations to its platform. The latest to join the roster is ‘Onimusha,’ based on Capcom’s legendary action video game series. This isn’t just another action-packed series; it carries the rich historical backdrop of Japan’s Warring States period. It promises to blend history, action, and a touch of the supernatural in a captivating anime rendition.
Set in an age where swordplay was as much art as it was warfare, ‘Onimusha’ tells the tale of Miyamoto Musashi. This wandering swordsman isn’t your ordinary warrior. Armed with the mythical Oni Gauntlet, Musashi embarks on a perilous mission. His objective? To confront and defeat malevolent beings known as Genma. These are no mere foes, as they wield otherworldly powers, pushing Musashi to his limits.
The teaser offered viewers a tantalizing glimpse into Musashi’s world. The focus was clear – a relentless hunter of demons,...

Animation for children deserves more respect, especially lately. In an industry that values profits over artistic risks, kids' animation remains a dismissible art form, and the intelligence of its audience is often underestimated. In 2022, the industry faced HBO Max's purge of several animated projects, an ongoing battle for fair wages, and the abridgement or outright cancelation of numerous shows and movies. Looking back, it's hard to not wonder what might have been.
These obstacles are especially notable given how much animation aimed at children has evolved over the years. A number of 2022's animated projects were particularly inventive and thought-provoking. It was a year full of glorious stop-motion productions, breathtaking visual innovations, and major milestones when it comes to queer visibility. Just remember: For our purposes, "kids" is an inclusive term that refers to both actual children as well as the kid that exists in every adult. With that in mind,...

Guess who's back, back again? "Teen Wolf" is back, and you should definitely tell your friends because there is a lot to be excited about. The beloved MTV series is getting the movie treatment with "Teen Wolf: The Movie" debuting in January, and the first trailer gives us the full scope of what we can expect from this nostalgia-heavy supernatural reboot.
First off, what exactly brings us back to Beacon Hills fifteen years after the final season of "Teen Wolf"? It appears that the Oni — the neutral demon warriors from season 3 of the show — have returned to the northern California town, and no one knows why. Naturally, this brings our favorite alpha, Tyler Posey's Scott McCall, back into town, and he summons the majority of supernatural crew from the days of yore to reunite and fight.
So, who exactly are we talking about here? By the looks of the trailer,...

Stop-motion animation is one of the oldest, most difficult, and most stunning animation techniques there is. But as beautiful as stop motion projects are, the amount of effort, time, and money required to produce them means we see fewer and fewer projects using this technique. That being said, 2022 has been an outstanding year for stop motion, with titles like Phil Tippett's "Mad God," Netflix's "The House" anthology, Henry Selick's "Wendell & Wild," and Guillermo del Toro's "Pinocchio" showing how versatile, malleable, and exciting the art form can be.
Then there's "Oni: Thunder God's Tale," a new Netflix mini series that looks like it was made with the same tools as any of the films listed above, but was actually made entirely with CGI. The show is set in the world of Japanese folklore, filled with gods and monsters of all shapes and forms — from the thunder...
