1923: Has It Been Renewed for Season 2?
Unlike 1883, which was designed as one season to tell a complete story, 1923 is getting a second season.
As the writing process was underway, Taylor Sheridan realized he needed more time to wrap up the storylines, which means we're getting a second season.
It will probably be the final season because the superproducer has been vocal about not wanting to keep the shows on the air beyond their initial storylines.

Unlike the first Yellowstone prequel 1883, Taylor Sheridan’s 1923 was always meant to have a season 2. The series will return with more of the 20th-century Dutton’s story, but there’s limited information about the new season. Here’s everything we know so far.
Helen Mirren as Cara Dutton in ‘1923’ | Emerson Miller/Paramount+ What will season 2 of ‘1923’ be about?
The 1923 finale set up the storyline for season 2. Spencer and Alex were separated on their journey and have agreed to meet in Bozeman, Mt. However, Spencer needs to get there soon to face off against Donald Whitfield, the wealthy land grabber who put the Duttons in his debt.
Viewers will also likely catch up with Teonna Rainwater, who escaped a horrific Native American boarding school. She is headed for a Comanche reservation with her father and Pete Plenty Clouds. The series already hinted at a romance between Teonna and Pete, and we...

His wife Alice was arrested, and Zane was beaten up when he tried to defend her. The end of the episode left Zane and the Duttons in a very difficult spot. Viewers may have been confused by the law that caused Alice’s arrest. Here’s what you need to know.

Exclusive: The first season of 1923 ended Sunday with Cara’s (Helen Mirren) nephew Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) still far from saving the day in Montana, while the ruthless Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton) informed Jacob (Harrison Ford) that he pretty much owns the Duttons after having paid the property taxes on their ranch. In other words, life will probably get a whole lot worse for Cara and Jacob before it gets any better.

Taylor Sheridan’s “1923” just wrapped up its first season on Paramount+ and it was a doozy.
Not only did the feud between Harrison Ford’s Jacob Dutton and Timothy Dalton’s Donald Whitfield reach a boiling point (which is really something considering everything that’s already come before) but the seemingly never-ending journey of Brand Sklenar’s Spencer Dutton and Julia Schlaepfer’s Alexandra to return to the ranch hit a major setback when they run into Alexandra’s ex-fiancé and he challenges Spencer to a duel.
TheWrap spoke to Sklenar about what it was like filming the finale, including a supernatural encounter with a ghost while on the Queen Mary, whether he knows where his character is headed (hopefully towards some scenes with Harrison Ford) and, of course, we get into the issue of John Dutton’s true lineage. (The finale did offer some helpful clues.)

Banner Creighton’s bullets couldn’t stop 1923‘s Jacob, but the series’ Season 1 finale finds a weapon even more likely to put the Dutton family patriarch in the ground: Donald Whitfield’s pen.
Because with just a few strokes and his signature, Whitfield pulls off a backhanded move that threatens to deliver all of the Yellowstone’s land right into the greedy miner’s hands. The look on Jake’s face at the end of the hour, when he realizes what he’s poised to lose, is far more gutting than when his gunshot wounds were bleeding buckets onto the kitchen floor.

Spoiler Alert! This story contains plot points from the finale of 1923 on Paramount+.
The first season of 1923 ended Sunday with not one but three rather dismal developments: Spencer Dutton (Brendan Sklenar) and his wife Alex (Julia Schlaepfer) were torn apart at sea, Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton) told Jacob Dutton (Harrison Ford) that he pretty much owns him after having paid the property taxes on Yellowstone, and Elizabeth Dutton (Michelle Randolph) lost the first baby she conceived with her new husband Jack (Darren Mann). Leave it to creator Taylor Sheridan to keep things challenging and sad as hell in his Yellowstone-verse!
Here, actress Randolph — a relative newcomer whose credits include The Resort and The Undertaker’s Wife — talks about shooting that heartbreaking scene with Mann. She also reveals who she likes spending time with now that production has wrapped and what fans always want to talk about if they ever meet her on the street.

Paramount+’s 1923 season one finishes up with episode eight, “Nothing Left to Lose,” an episode that ends with multiple cliffhangers and none of the three major storylines any closer to resolution. The season finale split fan-favorite couple Alex and Spencer apart, left Donald Whitfield sitting in the catbird seat, and revealed Cara’s worried that Spencer’s the Yellowstone Ranch’s only hope. And Teonna’s storyline only advanced as far as the Wyoming state line, with law enforcement and Father Renaud hot on her tail.
At least Paramount+ has already confirmed 1923 is returning for season two and we will, eventually, learn if Alex and Spencer make it to Montana. However, Paramount+ hasn’t announced when fans can expect a second season to arrive.

Taylor Sheridan’s “Yellowstone” might be in hibernation but that doesn’t mean that you are totally deprived of Dutton-related drama, as prequel series “1923” is currently streaming. It’s full of all the things that make “Yellowstone” so special – frontier justice, cowboys, big movie stars and a surprising amount of pistol whipping.
“1923” picks up after the events of “1883.” Harrison Ford plays Jacob Dutton, the brother of James Dutton (Tim McGraw’s character on “1883”). After James and Margaret (Faith Hill) passed away, Jacob and his wife Cara (Helen Mirren) take the boys in. Jack Dutton (Darren Mann) is the dedicated cowboy and ranchman while Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar), having Ptsd from World War I, retreats to Africa to hunt big game. In a very real way we are seeing the beginnings of the Yellowstone ranch, not just in the buildings but in the craggy philosophy and the psychic trauma that seems to permeate the soil.

How much death and destruction can one family take?
1923 Season 1 Episode 5 broke my heart into pieces, and after what we've come to know with the Yellowstone prequels, it would be silly to hold out hope.
The light of the family may be gone before anyone even got a chance to see it.
Things at the Yellowstone are dour. Everyone is on high alert after the massacre.
Cara's daily trips to the post office, hoping for word from Spencer, are done with armed guards. Those trips are mostly futile.
The family is barely holding on. Emma died with her husband and snuffed out her traitorous body when dragging it along no longer mattered to her.
Before she died, Emma had nasty words for Cora.
Become a mother before you lecture me about sons and what they do.

The Yellowstone universe continues growing as Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren join yet another prequel introducing another generation of Duttons. In the Western drama series 1923, Mirren and Ford play Cara and Jacob Dutton. But the English actor recently revealed what annoys her about many American Westerns.
‘1923’ takes place during Prohibition Helen Mirren as Cara Dutton in ‘1923’ | Emerson Miller/Paramount+
1923 is set 40 years after the events of 1883 and Elsa Dutton’s death. Harrison Ford’s character, Jacob, is the patriarch of the Dutton ranch and is married to Cara. Jacob and Cara don’t have children, but they raise their nephews Spencer and John as their own.
The prequel follows the Duttons as they navigate hard times from drought to Prohibition and the early stages of the Great Depression that took its toll on Montana even before the 1929 Stock Market Crash. 1923 premiered on Paramount+ on Dec. 18, 2022, with Ford and Mirren in the lead.

The Taylor Sheridan series "1923" was just renewed by Paramount+ for a second season, bringing us the further adventures of the Dutton family. We began following their journey in "Yellowstone," which is set in the present day, then got the prequel series "1883." In "1923" we meet Jacob Dutton (Harrison Ford), the brother of James Dutton (Tim McGraw) from "1883" who has since passed. Jacob and his wife Cara (Helen Mirren) are running the Yellowstone ranch in his place. They are battling it out with sheepherders who have enlisted mining tycoon Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton) to try to take the land from the Duttons.
The series shoots in Montana, which is not the easiest environment to work in. Sheridan famously puts his actors through cowboy camp training, and there is a lot of physical work from riding to fight scenes. Not only that, but the weather is pretty brutal. It's something Dalton...

It was only an episode ago that 1923 voice-overer Elsa reminded us that life on the ranch affords its residents no breaks, and apparently that even applies to the aftermath of a shootout that killed your nephew, injured your grand-nephew and his betrothed and almost (at least, as of now) ended your husband’s life.
First, the good news: Jacob is alive, though in rough shape, in Episode 4. And Jack and Elizabeth are tentatively on the mend, as well. But goodness gracious, the Duttons’ kitchen very closely resembles an Overlook Hotel hallway after all of the bullet-removal and body-stitching is done.

Paramount+’s 1923 episode four picks up hours after the doctor rushed to the Yellowstone Ranch to try and save Jacob’s life. Episode three ended with the shocking deaths of John Dutton Sr and Jack’s fiancée’s father, Bob Strafford, at the hands of Banner and his murderous band of sheepherders. It also saw Jacob and Elizabeth fighting for their lives.
Cara (Helen Mirren) enters the kitchen after the medical team has finished their work, and blood is still dripping from the table as she scans the room. It’s all too much, and she grabs a handkerchief and races from the big house. She collapses into sobs of grief as she stares up at the sky. Moments later she collects herself and returns to complete cleaning up just as ranch foreman Zane Davis (Brian Geraghty) arrives.

If you thought the "Yellowstone" franchise couldn't appeal to American dads any harder, you were wrong — dead wrong. The upcoming prequel series, "1923," has dropped a trailer that includes everything dads love: gritty Western storytelling, stone-faced grizzled old men speaking poetically, and Harrison freaking Ford. Ford joining the "Yellowstone" franchise is a pretty big deal, given how rarely this bonafide movie star blesses the small screen. If that wasn't enough to get every history buff, "Indiana Jones" fan, and middle-aged father thrilled beyond belief, the series also stars Helen Mirren and Timothy Dalton. It looks like Dalton is playing the villain opposite Ford's heroic character, which is the stuff of fanboy dreams. Han Solo and James Bond facing off in the Prohibition-era west? Yes, please.
"Yellowstone" is wildly popular, with a sixth season already in the works and a whole stable of spin-offs in production. Like its successful spin-off sibling,...

The official trailer for 1923, Paramount+’s second Yellowstone prequel, is here.
The trailer for the series, which stars Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford as Cara and Jacon Dutton, opens with a shot of Mirren being approached by Timothy Dalton’s Donald Whitfield, who announces that he’s moved into the ranch next to theirs.
“Well, this is the Yellowstone, and you have no rights here,” she says. Shortly after, Ford approaches the town’s sheriff about starting a range war with Whitfield, who has partnered up with Jerome Flynn’s (Game of Thrones) Banner Creighton. Later in the video, Mirren threatens Flynn, saying, “Men kill quick — with a bullet or a noose — but your fight is with me, and I kill much slower.”
Over the course of the minute-and-a-half trailer, Mirren and Ford fiercely defend their home from Whitfield, who wants to own the whole valley.

James Bond vs Indiana Jones!
I’ll admit that was the first thing that went through my head when I saw the full trailer for 1923, Paramount Plus’ long-awaited Yellowstone prequel limited series. While we previously got a teaser introducing us to the show’s concept, this new, extended trailer, which dropped during tonight’s episode of Yellowstone on the Paramount Network, gives a full look at what should be one of the most talked-about shows of the winter. It also unveils one of the show’s primary villains, Donald Whitfield, played by none other than former 007 Timothy Dalton, who seems to be a land baron at odds with the Dutton clan. Given how things generally turn out for adversaries of the Duttons, I’d say Dalton’s character is all but sure to meet a grisly end.

Jacob Dutton proves himself an intense adversary in the newest trailer for Yellowstone prequel 1923, but wife Cara is no slouch, herself — particularly when it comes to standing up to those who have designs on the family’s land.
“Men kill quick, with a bullet or a noose,” Cara (played by Oscar winner Helen Mirren) warns sheep man Banner Creighton (Game of Thrones‘ Jerome Flynn) in the video above, which aired during Yellowstone on Sunday. “But your fight is with me, and I kill much slower.” Well, damn.

“You attack my family, it’s gonna be the last thing you ever do,” warns Harrison Ford’s Jacob Dutton in Paramount+’s just-released trailer for Yellowstone spinoff 1923. The minute-and-a-half promo — which debuted during the Sunday, November 27, episode of Yellowstone — also gives fans a look at Helen Mirren’s formidable character, Cara Dutton, as she faces off against Timothy Dalton’s Donald Whitfield in his quest to claim the valley. In the trailer, Whitfield tells Cara he has acquired the Stafford ranch. “Well, this is the Yellowstone, and you have no rights here,” Cara replies. James Minchin III/Paramount+ “1923, the next installment of the Dutton family origin story, will introduce a new generation of Duttons led by patriarch Jacob and matriarch Cara,” Paramount+ says in a synopsis. “The series will explore the early 20th century, when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west,...

Timothy Dalton has joined the cast of the upcoming Parmount+ ‘Yellowstone’ prequel series ‘1923.’
Dalton will play Donald Whitfield, described as a “powerful, self-confident man who reeks of wealth and the lack of empathy it requires to attain it. He is intimidating and nefarious and is used to getting what he wants.”
The next chapter of what Paramount+ is calling Yellowstone‘s “origin story” — which began with the ‘1883’ prequel spinoff — will introduce viewers to a new generation of the series’ central family, the Duttons. Through them, per an official description, the series will “explore the early 20th century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west, and the Duttons who call it home.”
