Wheelchair racer Abby Cook has been announced as the Blue Peter’s 42nd presenter.
The 20-year-old will make her debut on the world’s longest-running children’s show on Friday (10 March), during which she will showing her skills at the track and meeting animals in the studio.
Cook, who hails from Falkirk in Scotland, said that she was “speechless” when she learnt she’d got the job on the Cbbc series, which first aired in 1958.
“I had to check it was true,” she said. “It was a very emotional moment knowing I would actually be presenting a show I love and had grown up with.”
Wheelchair user Cook trains twice a week with Paralympians as part of the athletics club Forth Valley Flyers.

Sundance Film Festival: London has revealed that “Zola” and “Coda” will be among the 2021 lineup, when the festival returns to Picturehouse Central next month.
“Coda” — an acronym meaning “Child of Deaf Adults” — features Marlee Matlin (“The West Wing”) and 19-year-old Emilia Jones (“Locke & Key”) navigating their relationship, while “Zola” is based on a 148-tweet viral Twitter thread from 2015 by Aziah “Zola” Wells. It stars Taylor Paige (“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”) and Riley Keough (“Max Max: Fury Road”) and will close the 4-day festival.
Edgar Wright’s rockumentary “The Sparks Brothers,” described as a “musical odyssey,” opens the festival on July 29.

The £200,000 short films initiative The Uncertain Kingdom, launched in December 2018, has finalised the 20 directors who will each receive £10,000 to finance a short film project.
Joining the previously announced Hope Dickson Leach (The Levelling) are the Oscar-winning Orlando Von Einsiedel (The White Helmets), International Emmy winner Guy Jenkin (Outnumbered) and Bifa winner Carol Salter (Almost Heaven).
Also on the roster are four former Screen Stars of Tomorrow: actor/writer/director Antonia Campbell-Hughes, writer/director Rubika Shah, and producers Helen Simmons and Yaw Basoah.
