The 2024 Asb Classic in Auckland offers players last chance to prepare for the first major of the season, and many took it, with the draw including quite a few interesting names.
For many players, it will be the first Atp tournament of the season, as they chose an approach of missing the first week, and playing the week before the 2024 Australian Open.
The 2024 Asb Classic in Auckland is held from January 8th to 13th, and the top seed at the tournament is American tennis sensation, Ben Shelton, who as one of the top four seeds has a bye in the first round.
In the second round of the tournament, the 21-year-old will already face some real competition, as he can meet either Fabian Marozsan, who bested Carlos Alcaraz in 2023, or Gael Monfils, a veteran on the Atp Tour.

The 37th edition of the Montpellier Open, commonly known as Open Sud de France, will be played immediately after the conclusion of the first Grand Slam of 2024.
This Atp 250 tournament will run from January 29th to February 4th, consisting of a 28-player singles draw. The event will be played exclusively at Sud de France Arena, which is an indoor setting in the Montpellier suburb of Perols that houses almost 7,500 fans.
Some of the most iconic names in men's tennis have won this tournament in the past, including Yannick Noah, Pete Sampras, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, and Andy Roddick - all of whom have won a Grand Slam.

Felix Auger-Aliassime had a disappointing 2023 campaign on the Atp Tour, and the 2024 season isn't starting any better.
At the end of the 2022 season, the Canadian won three consecutive titles, while winning 16 straight matches, and thanks to the late push, he qualified for his maiden Atp Finals, finishing the year as the world no. 6 in the Atp Rankings.
However, last year, Auger-Aliassime struggled with physical problems and form, and slowly but surely, he started falling down the rankings, exiting the Top 10 in June, and never returning into it, eventually ending the year as the world no. 29.
Ahead of the new season, the 23-year-old admitted that he would like to improve his ability to recover from injuries, and his first two matches, which did not happen, just prove that.

Felix Auger-Aliassime was missing on day 3 of the United Cup, and the Canadian has now confirmed why that was the case.
Canada faced Chile in their opening tie at the event. Auger-Aliassime was expected to face Nicolas Jarry in the singles, and then also compete in the mixed doubles alongside Leylah Fernandez.
World No. 314 Steven Diez replaced Auger-Aliassime in the singles and doubles. Diez lost the singles in straight sets, but he and Fernandez won a dramatic doubles encounter to seal a 2-1 victory over Chile for Team Canada.
Auger-Aliassime, who won the 2023 Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award for the admirable work he has done, provided the reason why he could not compete for Team Canada in an interview at the tournament.
"I wanted to play. I came here early on the 24th getting ready. The last few days, something came up again with my knee and I started getting pain again.

Felix Auger-Aliassime was bestowed with a prestigious award category on Atp Awards Week thanks to his outstanding humanitarian contributions in his father's homeland.
Auger-Aliassime is the proud winner of the 2023 Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award and is the first Canadian player to receive this honor since it was incepted in 1983. It is an award meant to celebrate the work of philanthropists and is not limited to tennis players.
The award extends the legacy of one of the world's most revered tennis stars, Arthur Ashe, who remains the only black tennis man to win a Grand Slam at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and US Open. He was ranked as high as World No. 2 during his distinguished career.
Until he passed on in 1993, aged 49, Ashe's achievements list encompassed off-court humanitarian work. He was eloquent and vocal in advocating for civil rights, and his unwavering dedication to social issues made him a conscious leader.

The entry list for the 2024 Asb Classic in Auckland, an Atp 250 tournament running from January 8th to 13th, 2024, was revealed, and it promises a lot of exciting action.
As one of only five tournaments held before the Australian Open, the Asb Classic in Auckland managed to attract a very competitive field with many players that will attract fans.
After a two-year hiatus, the tournament, which is played at the Asb Tennis Centre in Auckland, New Zealand, returned to the calendar in 2023, and in 2024, it will be played once again.
Last year, Richard Gasquet proved to be the strongest player in the field, beating Cameron Norrie in the thrilling three-set battle to win the title. However, the Frenchman didn't make the initial cut for the main draw in 2024, and Norrie will return to the tournament only as a second seed.
That's because a young gun from the United States leads the entry list.

Felix Auger-Aliassime had a really strong 2022 campaign, but that didn't happen this year with many bad performances.
Felix Auger-Aliassime's career has had a strange trajectory so far. He showed his talents fairly early in his career but then seemingly hit a wall. It wasn't until last year that the floodgates opened properly, and the Canadian found himself among the best at the Atp Finals.
He finished that year on a really high note, leading Canada to the Davis Cup trophy after playing pretty well at the Atp Finals as well. The win total for the year was 64 with 28 losses; his best year since becoming a pro.
Many people assumed that 2023 would be even better, and he certainly started well at the World Tennis League in Abu Dhabi, besting Nick Kyrgios, Dominic Thiem, and Alexander Zverev in straight sets.

Felix Auger-Aliassime was the Mvp for Canada at last year's Davis Cup, and he's confident the country can do it again this year.
Felix Auger-Aliasasime had an amazing 2022 season, especially towards the end. He dominated the indoor part of the calendar, winning Atp trophies and leading his country to Davis Cup glory.
This year has been quite different for the Canadian. He found a late spark in Basel, winning the event again; however, his season overall looks very pale compared to last year.
We don't even have to dig deep to prove that, as a simple record comparison suffices. He won 64 matches last year while only 24 so far this year.
That's a huge difference, but even so, he's confident about Canada's chances at the Davis Cup. They will go as far as Auger-Aliassime will go and he was excited to return to the court again.

The Atp Race to Turin came down to the final weeks of the season and sadly for Taylor Fritz, he was among a handful of players who missed out right at the last.

Holger Rune was expected to be the top seed at the 2023 Moselle Open in Metz but has pulled out from the event.
Rune changed his mind following qualification at the season-ending Atp Finals in Turin which is scheduled to begin on Sunday, November 12. With the Moselle Open kicking off next week, the Dane is not taking any chances with his body now that his place in Turin is secured.
The 20-year-old was sitting precariously in eighth spot in the live race going to the Paris Masters this past week and was the player in most danger of missing out. As many as three players looked to overtake him in Bercy.
But a quarterfinal run there, coupled with results going his way following the elimination of the likes of Hubert Hurkacz, Tommy Paul, and Alex de Minaur meant that this year's race to Turin was done and dusted at the last stop of the Atp 1000 tournaments.

Alexander Zverev added another good win this week at the 2023 Paris Masters , defeating Ugo Humbert after barely overcoming Marton Fucsovics previously.
This one comes against the native player, and if you know anything about French players, then it's their love of playing on home soil. Humbert played a very good match overall but was simply not sharp enough for Zverev when it really came down to it.
The German opted for a more reserved approach initially, allowing Humbert to take the initiative in most rallies. It didn't work out so well for the French player as he struggled to keep his errors on the lower side, which was necessary.
Zverev's tactics paid off because he had his serve working well enough to escape some of the tricky situations he faced. On return, Zverev did just enough to create several chances, hoping that one of them would be converted.

Auger-Aliassime opened well, getting to the early break point, but wasted both of them. Tsitsipas then broke his opponent a few games later to take the lead, and he never let it go...

Holger Rune completed one of the most remarkable feats in Atp history when he shockingly won the Paris Masters last autumn.
Rune, who was 19 last year, defeated five Top 10 players en route to the title . After saving three match points in his opening win against Stan Wawrinka, who bizarrely told him to stop acting like a "baby" , he took down Hubert Hurkacz, Andrey Rublev, Carlos Alcaraz, and six-time champion Novak Djokovic in the title match.
The win capped a memorable week for Rune who admitted to having his "heart in his brain" when he served for the championship, fending off six break points against the greatest returner in tennis. The victory made him just the second teenager to win the Paris Masters since Boris Becker achieved that milestone in 1986.
Incidentally, Rune appointed Becker to take over as his right-hand man until the end of the season. Ahead of his title defense,...

Carlos Alcaraz 's no-show in Basel came at a personal cost, as the Spaniard forfeited 180 ranking points from last year's semifinal run.
Alcaraz with 8,625 points is now 2,420 behind World No. 1 Novak Djokovic ahead of the Paris Masters this week. Djokovic will be playing for the first time in more than a month and remains the firm favorite to finish the season as the year-end No. 1 for a record-extending eighth time.
There is no movement in the world's Top 5, but Jannik Sinner was the biggest winner at the weekend. He defeated Daniil Medvedev for the second consecutive time in a final to win the Vienna Open . But the Russian will leave the Austrian capital as the winner of the Atp 500 Bonus prize money pool .

Felix Auger-Aliassime completed one of the most improbable title runs on the Atp Tour by successfully defending the Swiss Indoors trophy.
Auger-Aliassime, who entered the tournament as a late wild card, won the clash of the heavyweights in Basel, beating Poland's Hubert Hurkacz 7-6, 7-6 in the final on Sunday . As expected, the near two-hour serving feast did not feature a single break of serve.
The Canadian tallied more aces (13 to 12), higher first-serve points won (93% to 81%), and hammered more winners (43 to 28). Considering his appalling run of results coming to the event, the week in Basel is undoubtedly a rare chink of sunlight in what has been a disastrous campaign for a player with Top 10 ambitions. So how did the man from Montreal get his season back on track?

Holger Rune believes his abject performance in the semifinal of the Swiss Indoors can be attributed to "tight legs" because he didn't receive standard treatment from Atp physios.
The young Dane suffered a major setback in his quest to qualify for the Atp Finals after falling in the semifinals in Basel to defending champion Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Rune's serve was broken three times by the Canadian, and overall, won five games in a straight sets defeat. Towards the end of the match, Rune could be seen in a lengthy dialogue with the chair umpire during a changeover.
The 20-year-old was visibly frustrated with his performance, but shifted the blame onto the Atp physios, opining that they are not "good enough to treat players."
Furthermore, Rune asserted that his performance during the match was impacted by it. These were eyebrow-raising claims since the Dane had not requested a physio during the match.

Felix Auger-Aliassime finished off an amazing week at the 2023 Swiss Indoors in Basel by beating Hubert Hurkacz in the final in two sets.
This was a pretty big match for Hurkacz, who is hunting a spot in Turin . The Polish player would have greatly benefited from the 500 points if he had won, but by losing to the Canadian, he's only going to get 300.
That's still good, but he'll need a greater result in Paris to secure a spot in Turin. When it comes to Auger-Aliassime, this win is tremendously important for him. The season has been very bad for him, even recently.
The week in Basel has been spectacular , and there is clearly something special about the city. He's now won back-to-back trophies in Basel. The match itself was pretty close as it finished in two tiebreaks, but Auger-Aliassime was the better player, clearly.

Holger Rune was hilariously mistaken for Casper Ruud during his quarterfinal match at the 2023 Swiss Indoors in Basel.
There have been multiple great tennis players from Scandinavia competing on the Atp Tour over the years, but funnily enough, they all came from Sweden. Bjorn Borg, Mats Wilander, and Stefan Edberg were enormously successful, but in the 21st century, we haven't seen a successful Scandinavian for a long time.
That's why it was also a bit surprising when two major talents emerged from the region at the same time, and on top of that, none of them was from Sweden. Holger Rune is arguably the best male tennis player to ever come from Denmark, while the same applies to Casper Ruud in Norway.
Apart from being from Scandinavia, the two have a few more things in common, one of them is that their surname starts with letters R and U, and...

The Swiss Indoors Basel final is an interesting one between Hubert Hurkacz and Felix Auger-Aliassime , so who will win?
It's a tricky question to answer because both players have actually played really well. The court does play into the strengths of each player, but somehow, it seems to me like Hurkacz is closer to winning.
He's been really strong lately with the Shanghai Masters win and has the more reliable serve, which will likely help. Auger-Aliassime's win over Holger Rune was impressive , but it mostly came because Rune played below his level.
Hurkacz had plenty of issues against Ugo Humbert but endured a tough match. Neither is playing at their peak, but they don't need to in order to win the Atp 500 in Basel.
Head-to-head:
The two have played three times so far, and Auger-Aliassime leads the H2H 2-1. The most recent match happened last year in Halle, and Hurkacz won it.

Felix Auger-Aliassime continued winning at the 2023 Swiss Indoors in Basel, besting Holger Rune to secure his first Atp final in a year at the event where he won the trophy last year.
Holger Rune seemingly can't defeat Felix Auger-Aliassime in Basel. In fairness, he hasn't defeated many people in the past three months either, but for some reason, things just never work out in Basel.
They played in the final last year, and the Canadian easily won. They played this year in the semi-final, and the Canadian again easily won. It wasn't a good match from Rune, who seemed to be in improving form recently .
Despite finding a solid level here and winning a couple of matches, this isn't close to what he generally brings to the table. The opening set started with an early break, and it really did change the outcome of the match.

Holger Rune advanced to the 2023 Swiss Indoors semi-final after beating Tomas Martin Etcheverry in a very close match, and he admitted that he got super lucky with it.
There was very little doubt about who was better in the opening set as Rune cruised to win it comfortably. The second set though was a bit more tricky for Rune as Etcheverry fought back to secure a final set.
In the third set, Rune pushed hard early but couldn't find the opening. The second half of the second set was played better by Etcheverry, who had some break points but also couldn't quite get it.
In the end, we saw a tiebreak where Rune got very lucky at the end in the two final points. He hit the tip of the net, which bounced into Etcheverry's side of the court to give himself a match point.
After that, the Argentinian double-faulted on match point.

Holger Rune bested Felix Auger-Aliassime a few weeks ago, but can he do it again at the 2023 Swiss Indoors in vastly different circumstances? Find out in the preview below.
Holger Rune hasn't been playing that well up until this event. He had an active losing streak before Beijing, but he snapped it there by beating Auger-Aliassime . It was his first win in over two months and quite a significant one for his confidence.
It was also proof that the Canadian was not playing that well either, but he, too, improved this week. They have put forward some great performances in Basel this week in the hopes of finishing the year on a high note.

Carlos Alcaraz didn't play last week because he pulled out of the Swiss Indoors in Basel due to an injury , but he'll be back in Paris. The event hasn't been the best event for him as he suffered a terrible loss in 2021, while last year was even worse.
He suffered an abdominal injury that not only prevented him from playing at the Atp Finals but also at the Australian Open, which was a huge disaster for him. Hopefully, things go better for him this year, but some fans are concerned after the Basel withdrawal.
In any case, he's going to need some good tennis to go deep into the draw in Paris. The draw ceremony was held , and his path to the trophy is pretty complicated. A first-round Bye will come in handy,...

One thing that you won't see often is Holger Rune without a hat, yet that's what fans got to see at the 2023 Swiss Indoors in Basel.

Toni Nadal is not a fan of the way these new young players are being taught, as he believes that they are being fed too much information.
Toni Nadal is a pretty old-school tennis coach who instilled his principles into Rafael Nadal from a very early age. He was the most influential person on Nadal growing up, and considering how the Spaniard's career has shaped up so far, it seems pretty good.
In a recent interview with Majorca Bulettin, Toni Nadal expressed his views that these new generations are fed with too much information, which causes confusion and frustration. He had a chance to work with one of those young players in Felix Auger-Aliassime , but we don't know whether that influenced his opinion.
Today there's too much information it's confusing, and it's all about positive criticism. That does not always work; on the contrary, it leads to greater frustration for players when they lose.

The 2023 Swiss Indoors will run from October 23 to 29, assembling 32 players in a highly competitive field for the last stop of the Atp 500 events this season.
The draw for this year's tournament has been released and there are a plethora of exciting matches that could have a substantial change in the rankings and the Atp Race. In addition to vying for a huge share of €2,196,000 of prize money , 500 ranking points will be up for grabs.
Holger Rune is the top seed at the event. He has earned a rematch against Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round of the Swiss Indoors. The Serbian ended Rune's title defense in Stockholm this week , and a repeat of the same result in Basel will be a massive setback in the Dane's quest to qualify for the Atp Finals.

Both of them had good form coming into the match and also the conditions should suit both of them. The first set was a typical set of two players with solid serve, as Shelton fired eight aces, and thanks to great returning, he also managed to break his opponent's serve in the ninth game.

Holger Rune isn't playing that well right now, but the Danish number one remains confident in his game despite it.
Holger Rune lost 10 of the last 11 matches he played, including the most recent one at the 2023 Stockholm Open against Miomir Kecmanovic. It was a surprising loss because Rune won the Atp 250 event last year, and many expected him to break out of his slump finally, but he didn't.
He was borderline unplayable last year in the Swedish capital, and while the effort was fine this time around, it simply wasn't enough as he ran into a better player in Kecmanovic.
Actually, the only match he won recently was against Felix Auger-Aliassime in Beijing. It's bad timing for a slump as he's fighting for a spot in the Atp Finals , something that looks further away with every day that passes.
Despite all of the struggles, Rune remains confident in his game...

Felix Auger-Aliassime is playing really solid tennis at the 2023 Japan Open this week; however, his opponent, Marcos Giron , is doing the same thing.
So the question is, who will win this match? It's an interesting one because historically Auger-Aliassime has dominated matchups like these easily. On one side we have Giron who is an all-around solid player though without any clear weapons.
Yes, the serve is very precise and is at the centre of everything that he does; however, the forehand and backhand aren't something that will strike fear. He's solid from both sides, though, and much of what he does well is just being super solid every match.
You'd be surprised how far you can go by just being very solid every match, and he's the perfect example of that. On the other side, we have Auger-Aliassime, a superb player with tremendous talent but very volatile form. It's really...

Defending champion Holger Rune is out of the Stockholm Open after Miomir Kecmanovic beat him in two sets.
Holger Rune has struggled tremendously in the past few weeks losing multiple matches without any indication of his bad streak disappearing. The Dane is 1-10 in his last 11 matches with his only win coming over Felix Auger-Aliassime in Beijing.
All of the other matches have been terrible for him, and it continued today in Stockholm. Despite being the defending champion and desperately needing both wins for his confidence and a chance to play in Turin, Rune produced another showing below his level.
It wasn't the beatdown he suffered from Brandon Nakashima , but it wasn't a very good showing either. The opening set was very close, ending up in a tiebreak, which isn't a huge surprise.
Even so, Rune was on the back foot for much of it, having to save multiple break points.

Gael Monfils hasn't played much since the US Open, and he got his first win since the event by beating Marton Fucsovics in three sets at the 2023 Stockholm Open .
This was a very interesting match between Monfils, who is slowly coming to the end of his career on the Atp Tour, and Marton Fucsovics, who is struggling to find his best tennis.
The Hungarian is very good at times and has been really good this year, but he didn't really find his best in this match. He did look spectacular in the opening set when he smashed a very erratic Monfils 6-2, but that was mostly because the Frenchman himself wasn't doing that well.
He's always been a very good indoor player, thanks to his serve and athleticism, but the latter is slowly fading away, which makes it harder for him to win. The second set saw Monfils respond really...

Holger Rune prepared in Monaco for the upcoming 2023 Stockholm Open , with Boris Becker being present at those practices.
Rune has had a really tough time with his tennis lately, losing the majority of his matches. His most recent win was over Felix Auger-Aliassime in Beijing , which didn't really start any kind of winning streak.
He lost in the next round and then got smashed in his Shanghai Masters debut, which didn't leave a good impression on anybody. Before coming to Stockholm, Rune had a good practice week in Monaco as Boris Becker was present .
Nobody really knew what that was about, as there were no reports about the former player joining Rune's team, but it seems like he did provide some input. Rune talked about it before his Stockholm Open match against Miomir Kecmanovic .
It was a really good week of training. I have known Boris for a long time.

Felix Auger-Aliassime won consecutive matches for the first time in a while at the 2023 Japan Open , and he was really happy about it.
It hasn't been a really good year for Auger-Alaissime, which is strange as he seemingly made a step forward last year during the indoor season. He had some good moments this year but struggled tremendously for much of it, totaling only 18 wins until now.
This is the first time he won back-to-back matches since March and the Indian Wells Masters. The wins at the Japan Open come at a good time because the indoor season is upon us, and there is a good chance that we might build some confidence to finish the year strongly.
He was certainly happy with the win over Sebastian Ofner because it was a pretty easy one, and he needs wins like that. He reaffirmed that after the win.
I need results like this.

The Moselle Open will have an unusual start date this year as it is set to be one of two Atp tournaments to herald the start of the Atp Finals in the preceding week before the season finale.
The Moselle Open is usually contested on indoor hard courts at the Arènes de Metz. The tournament will mark its 20th year on the Atp Tour since its inception in 2003 and will welcome a 28-player singles field, headlined by eight of the world's Top 20 players.
The main draw action will run from November 5th to 11th. The top seed at the tournament will be Holger Rune , an aspirant for the 2023 Atp Finals . The young Dane will need a strong showing in the tournaments leading up to Metz to cement his place in the world's Top 8 in the Atp Race. If he stumbles before then, he's unlikely to make the cut when he arrives at the Moselle Open.

Defending champion Holger Rune returns to the 2023 Stockholm Open to face Miomir Kecmanovic in his first match back at the event.
Holger Rune hasn't played very good tennis, and aside from a win over Felix Auger-Aliassime in Beijing, the Dane has struggled with his tennis. The beatdown Brandon Nakashima handed him was rather shocking , especially as he's pursuing a spot at the Atp Finals.
He needs wins, and he needs them now; however, Miomir Kecmanovic has never been a pushover. The good thing for Rune is the familiarity he has with Stockholm and the fact that he won here last year.
The conditions work perfectly for his attacking play, but he needs to play well, and he hasn't been able to do that for a long time now.
Head-to-head:
They never played before on the Atp Tour, which is interesting but there are some things to observe. Rune is the...

Felix Auger-Aliassime is back in the winner's circle after winning his opening match at the Japan Open against Aleksandar Vukic .
Auger-Aliassime hasn't played that well recently, and to demonstrate that, let's just say that he lost to Holger Rune . The same Rune who is 1-9 in the last 10 matches played, so you get the idea. He won his opening round match at the Japan Open, but it was very complicated.
The Canadian faced an early break point in the match but held his nerve, which proved crucial to jumping out to an early lead not long after that. He was on the verge of winning the opening set at 5-4 but lost his serve to prolong the set.
Ultimately, he did win it in the tiebreak, but he could have done it far sooner, and it sort of shows how volatile his level can be during a match. The second...

The 2023 Japan Open is stacked with big names, and the draw for this year's tournament has been released, eliciting plenty of excitement from fans.
Some incredible matchups are in store at one of the most prestigious Atp 500s on the tennis calendar, which features three of the world's Top 10 players in action . The race to Turin is simmering, and some of the aspirants like Alexander Zverev , Taylor Fritz , and Casper Ruud will be vying to collect the maximum available points next week.
Main draw action will run from October 16th to 22nd. Looking at the draw, defending champion Taylor Fritz has a treacherous path to the title. The lanky American will start the defense of his crown against British No. 1 Cameron Norrie .
Remarkably, they have played 12 times before this, with the head-to-head parity at 6-6. Fritz has won their last two meetings on Tour including at this year's United Cup.

Recently, Babolat released the Pure Aero Rafa Origin – a racket based directly on Rafael Nadal ’s own custom frame.
The specification of this racket provides incredible insight into Nadal’s game, but is this signature Rafa racket a realistic choice for amateur tennis players? The Pure Aero tennis racket has it’s origins almost twenty years ago, released under it’s original name, the Aero Pro Drive, and designed with young Rafael Nadal in mind.
The iconic “aero” frame shape – maintained all the way to the modern Pure Aero line – makes for a fast, aerodynamic swing. Perfect for the incredible attack Nadal strikes the ball with. But how do we get from such a recreational player-friendly frame, to one of the most challenging custom rackets on the pro tour?
Rafael Nadal’s personal racket follows a simple, yet brutally effective customisation path of adding a large amount of weight to the tip of the racket.
