Max’s first Spanish Original series “When Nobody Sees Us” has assembled an all-star cast including “The Flash” actor Maribel Verdú, “Mission Impossible’s” Mariela Garriga and Austin Amelio from “Fear The Walking Dead.”
Ben Temple (“Upon Entry”) and Dani Rovira (“El campeón”) are also set to star in the show, which is based on Sergio Sarria’s novel of the same name.
Set during Holy Week in southern Spain’s Morón de la Frontera, Verdú plays Lucía Gutiérrez, a seargant in the Civil Guard who’s investigating the unexpected death of a neighbor, ostensibly by suicide. She also suspects a series of strange occurences taking place during the first Easter procession might be linked. Meanwhile Garriga stars as Magaly Castillo, a special agent sent to a nearby U.S. Army base to investigate the disappearance of an American soldier. Amelio co-stars as Sergeant Andrew Taylor, a military policeman who accompanies...

Spain Sets Max Originals
Max’s first unscripted originals in Spain will include local adaptations of “Naked Attraction,” “Naked and Afraid” and “Peking Express.” Max is set to launch in the country in the spring.
“With the launch of Max, we will continue to produce quality scripted projects and we will enhance the unscripted offering by adding premium documentaries and entertainment shows appealing to a wider audience,” said Laura Carafoli, SVP TV networks and digital local production in Italy and Iberia. “This is why we are thrilled to announce three new top-class titles to Max’s local content lineup. Three shows with a proven track record, telling exciting real-life stories, featuring compelling characters with the best production values.”
“Naked Attraction” asks viewers “to put aside prejudices and opt for naturalness when it comes to finding love: could you fall in love with someone naked?,” according to its official description. The...

Warner Bros Discovery (Wbd) has hired an original productions chief for Max in Italy and Iberia, an intriguing move that completes the local content team ahead of the streaming service’s launch in Europe next year.
Alberto Carullo has been named Vice President Max Local Original Production Italy & Iberia, reporting directly to Laura Carafoli, SVP, Content Networks & Streaming Local Productions, Italy & Iberia.
Max is due to launch in 22 European countries in 2024. Those such as Iberia that already offer HBO Max will be the first tranche of countries to get the platform.
No date has been given for a launch in Italy, where Wbd has an output deal with Sky Italia for HBO content. This is due to end in 2025, and a Wbd spokesman confirmed Max cannot launch in the country while the current agreement is in place. Similar situations are facing Max in the UK and Germany.

BBC Studios’ BAFTA nominated amateur sewing competition format “The Great Sewing Bee” from Love Productions and “This is My House,” the guessing game from Expectation, will be adapted for Discovery in Italy.
The six-part Italian version of “The Great Sewing Bee,” is produced locally by Blu Yazmine and will stream air on Discovery June in June, followed by Real Time in the fall. Known locally as “Tailor Made – Chi ha la stoffa?,” the competition hosted by Tommaso Zorzi follows a group of competitors who will race against the clock in three sewing challenges each week in a bid to be crowned the country’s best amateur sewer.
Created by Richard Bacon and Nick Weidenfeld and produced by Expectation for BBC One, “This is My House” invites four contestants each week to convince a panel of celebrity judges and the audience at home that the house is indeed theirs. Only one...

Discovery continued to expand its footprint in Italy in 2020, and has cracked the country’s top three networks.
The media giant’s linear channels last year commanded an almost 8% average audience share, up 4% compared with 2019, bolstering its standing as the country’s third free-tv player after state broadcaster Rai and private network Mediaset.
Year-end figures for Discovery’s now bolstered linear success in Italy –– where free-tv viewers grew during the pandemic –– are being released just as the company best known globally as a cable player, is rebranding and re-launching its Discovery Plus streaming service across Europe.
Discovery Plus bowed in Italy on Jan. 6 offering originals such as ITN-produced instant doc “What Killed Maradona?,” which is likely to hit a chord in the country where the late great Argentinian soccer icon’s career peaked. Also on the slate is a new show featuring Italian pop singer and influencer Elettra Lamborghini.
