Grew up playing boys hockey until she was 16 and was the first girl to make a AAA-level boys team in Thunder Bay.
Graduated from University of Minnesota Duluth.
Siblings are Kirstyn Irwin and Brent Irwin.
Is a professional ice hockey player and also a member of the Calgary Inferno of the Canadian Women's Hockey League.
Parents are James are Kerry Irwin.
Won 2 gold Olympic medals in 2010 in Vancouver and in 2014 in Sochi.
Won 4 medals from IIHF World Women's Championships during her career - one gold and 3 silver.
After moving to women's hockey, she made Canada's national Under-22 team.
Was a member of the 2009-2010 Hockey Canada national women's team, the Montreal Stars of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) and played for the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs in the NCAA.
Won 3 medals from the Women's 4 Nations Cup over the years - 2 gold and one silver.
Won 2 medals from the MLP Nations Cup - one gold in 2008 and one silver in 2009.
