Melbourne, Sep 3 (Ians) Rashid Khan, Harry Brook, Quinton De Kock and Tom Curran headline a list of 21 overseas players selected in the second edition of the Bbl overseas draft. Sunday’s draft saw 374 players from 29 countries put their names forward for selection in eight squads ahead of Bbl season 13.
Round one was full of excitement and key retention picks, with seven Clubs selecting Platinum players. Melbourne Stars attempted to use their first pick to recruit Rashid, the world’s best T20 bowler, from the Adelaide Strikers, before he was retained for a seventh straight season by the club in blue.
“I wouldn’t have been allowed back into South Australia (if we didn’t pick Rashid). It was a no-brainer for us. For any team, if Rash is available you would look to pick him… he is the best spinner in the world,” said Jason Gillespie, Strikers’ head coach, on buying back Rashid.

Chattogram, March 6 (Ians) A brilliant all-rounder performance by seasoned Shakib Al Hasan, who claimed his 300th Odi wicket during a haul of 4-35 after hitting 71-ball 75, helped Bangladesh defend a modest 246 for a 50-run win against England here on Monday.
Bangladesh had already lost the series after losing the first two ODIs before salvaging some pride by winning the third match.
The home side may have lost their first Odi series since 2016, but the Asian Tigers must be relieved to have avoided a whitewash in their own den, with Sri Lanka having inflicted the last one in 2014.
Shakib scored 75, hitting seven fours, while wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim contributed 70 and Najmul Hossain Shanto added 53 as Bangladesh were shot out for 246 in 48.5 overs.
Shakib then returned to fox the English batters with his spin bowling, claiming 4-35 as England were bundled out for 196 in 43.1 overs as the hosts won by 50 runs.

Sydney, Nov 20 (Ians) Australia pace bowler Josh Hazlewood’s experience of leading the side for the first time has been “pretty exciting” as well as “nerve-wracking” as he guided the team to an Odi series victory against England at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday.
The 31-year-old quick made his captaincy debut with regular Odi skipper Pat Cummins not in the XI and guided Australia to a 72-run victory against the recently-crowned T20 World champions England to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
After setting a competitive 280/8 in the allotted 50 overs, Australia dismissed England for just 208 in 38.5 overs to ensure a big win against Jos Buttler’s side.
With precious little captaincy experience, Hazlewood admitted he was nervous before the seond Odi. Hazlewood has become Australia’s 28th men’s Odi captain after he was handed the reins with “Cummins’ workload being managed ahead of effectively five back-to-back...

Adelaide, Nov 17 (Ians) Dawid Malan’s fantastic century went in vain as Australia’s top-order batters produced impressive performances to help their team beat England by six wickets in the first Odi and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, here on Thursday.
Malan’s ton (134 off 128) injected life into England’s innings and helped them post 287/9 in 50 overs. In reply, David Warner (86 off 84), Travis Head (69 off 57) and Steve Smith (80 not out off 78) hit enterprising fifties to help the hosts chase down the total in 46.5 overs with six wickets in hand.
In the absence of the now-retired Odi skipper Aaron Finch, Australia’s new opening pair of Warner and Head blasted a century stand from 88 balls to set up their pursuit of 288. Warner brought up a 44-ball fifty whereas Head reached that landmark off 46 balls.

Melbourne, Aug 28 (Ians) Liam Livingstone, Rashid Khan and Trent Boult headline a list of 24 overseas players selected through the inaugural Big Bash League (Bbl) draft ahead of the league’s 12th season.
The competition’s first Draft for overseas players saw Clubs consider 332 players from 20 countries for the coveted positions in their squads for the season. Seven clubs selected Platinum players in round one, with Livingstone, the hard-hitting England batting all-rounder, named the competition’s inaugural number one Draft selection by the Melbourne Renegades.
Melbourne Stars attempted to pluck Rashid from under the noses of Adelaide Strikers with pick two before the Afghanistan leg-spin all-rounder was retained for a sixth straight season by the people in the blue jersey.
Boult, the New Zealand left-arm pacer, then became pick three for the Stars, before the English trio of Sam Billings (Brisbane Heat), Chris Jordan (Sydney Sixers), David Willey (Sydney Thunder) and...

London, Aug 15 (Ians) Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has faced huge flak on social media after seeming to accuse Pakistan pacer Muhammad Hasnain of chucking during his team Southern Brave’s seven-wicket loss to the Oval Invincibles in The Hundred Men’s competition.
Stoinis top-scored with 37 off 27 balls for the Brave on Sunday evening and was dismissed by Hasnain, top-edging a pull to mid-off. He fell after sharing a 55-run partnership with captain James Vince for the second wicket.
While walking back to the pavilion, Stoinis mimicked a throw which looked to be suggesting that he was taking a jibe at Hasnain’s bowling action.
On social media, Stoinis was widely criticised for his attempt to question the legality of Hasnain’s bowling action.
“This is shocking! Hasnain has been cleared & it has nothing to do with Stoinis,” wrote former player Azeem Rafiq on Twitter.
“Who does Marcus Stoinis think he is?...

Sydney, Dec 10 (Ians) Sydney Sixers have signed England fast bowler Jake Ball for the 10th edition of the Big Bash League.
Ball will leave South Africa on Thursday, where he has been a member of England's white-ball tour squad, and will join the defending Bbl champions post Christmas once he has completed the mandatory 14-day quarantine period.
His signing comes after England teammate Tom Curran requested a release from his Sixers contract for this season due to fatigue associated with travelling and playing within bio-security restrictions.
Ball has played for England in all three forms of the game and comes to the Sixers highly recommended by star recruit Dan Christian, who captained Ball at English county Nottinghamshire.
"Jake has been a mainstay of our Nottinghamshire attack in my time there over the last six seasons, leading us to the domestic T20 titles in 2017, and again this year in 2020," Christian said.

South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bowl against England in the World Cup opener at The Oval on Thursday. For South Africa, Dale Steyn, Chris Morris, David Miller, and Tabraiz Shamsi are not part of the playing XI.? England has not included Liam Dawson, Mark Wood, Tom Curran and James Vince for the opener.
At the toss, Faf: Going to have a bowl. Early start at the Oval, if there's anything in the wicket, it's now. Shamsi, Miller, Morris, Steyn not playing. Steyn's around 80%. The start of the World Cup. It's going to be a good one. Ngidi and Kg have been exceptional over the last couple of years. Good to see Amla scoring runs in the warm-up.
Morgan: Would've looked to do the same. The wicket looks really good. It's set fair all day, shouldn't change much. Yes, Wood was available for selection.
